Trinidad Lake State Park, Trinidad, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park with great views. The park has extra clean bathrooms and coin operated showers. The main bathroom area has a laundry room available. Also, found at this park is a playground, volleyball court, and an amphitheater. This park was enjoyable for some casual walking and wonderful views. The trail down to the lake was closed off when I was there. I was so impressed with this park and grateful for the state investing in the infrastructure found here. I will return this park. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

I enjoyed staying at Palo Duro. There are some negatives but, the positives outweigh the bad stuff. The park's scenery is impressive with beautiful colors making up the canyon. I enjoyed taking some hikes that were challenging but not overly strenuous. We stayed in the park during July, and of course it was hot. Both days were 100 plus. The negative that I will remember the most is the bugs. Lots of huge bugs in bathroom area and flies that bite that were everywhere. Be prepared with some deet product to keep the biting flies away. We camped at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Santa Rosa Lake State Park, Santa Rosa, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This park was fine for a day or two, but I was not overly impressed. I saw the park ranger go through the campground only once. Lots are spacious and offer some shade. Site surface is gravel and features a fire ring and picnic table. Skunks are around. I saw one getting into an another camper's outside trash that was not put away. I don't intend on coming back to this campground. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Union Grove COE, Salado, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Union Grove is a very nice park by Lake Stillhouse. I have a close connection to this lake, growing up in the area and seeing the construction of it as a kid in '66. It makes me feel good on a personal level to see the lake and park being well maintained. It's a nice park to getaway to, but expect to see the glow of lights at night from the local communities of Killeen/Harker Heights and Temple/Belton. The lake offers plenty of shoreline to fish from and a beach for the kids. One inconvenience was that the toilet paper in the women's restroom was not restocked on our 2nd day there until the next day. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Tent Trailer.

Jim Hogg Park COE, Georgetown, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Overall, the park is very nice and I will camp here again. My only criticism is directed at the bathrooms/showers in the park. Some needed maintenance and updates. Hope some funds are budgeted that way in the future. We camped at Jim Hogg Park COE in a Tent Trailer.

Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park. Very well maintained and a nice choice of trails to hike. Love the night skies here. Expect no cell service while in the campground area. A must-do is to drive up Skyview Road which gives a very enjoyable view of the surrounding area. This is the second time to the park and I will return. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Gas stations are limited in nearby Fort Davis. I had to fill up at Porter's grocery store which had only a couple of pumps.
