Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA), Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 3 nights on our way west. This was an old KOA park that had gone private. It had that West Texas characteristic with no shade and gravel and dirt sites. The sites were level and the utilities were all working. They had a cafe on site however we did not use it. The park seemed to be an over nite park that filled in the afternoon and emptied out in the morning. They had two dog runs which on the website appeared to have green grass. Actually were dirt and patches off tiny burrs which had our small dogs limping. We didn't use them after the first day. That was one of our beefs with the place. Anything that looked like grass had burrs in it. The other problem we had with the place was the WiFi. If you are going to advertise that you have free WiFi it had better allow you to use it. Doesn't have to be fast but at least usable. Even in the middle of the day when the park was near empty it could not be used with any assurances. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Motorhome.

Whistle Stop RV Resort, Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Seems to be fairly new campground close to downtown Abilene. Easy access off I-20. Plenty of room on pull through site. It had a concrete patio with outdoor table and chairs plus a covered fire pit. Roads were all wide and gravel as well as the sites. Services were well located. There was a dog run and a dog wash station as well. The staff were all pleasant and friendly. Would stay again if we were in the area. We camped at Whistle Stop RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Shady Pines RV Park, Texarkana, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Our second time here and won't be our last. Just a small park but great for a short rest on the way north or south. The office is not open until 3:30 so there is a note to pick a site and come in to pay later. Level concrete pads and good utilities. One of the best WiFi speeds that we have seen on out travels. We camped at Shady Pines RV Park in a Motorhome.

Catherine's Landing, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Very happy with our stay. The park is well maintained and very up to date. Our site was a level pull through. Unfortunately the weather was not the best with both rain and some cold and snow all in 4 days. However we still managed to enjoy the stay and visit the city of Hot Springs. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We would visit again with the hope of some better weather. We camped at Catherine's Landing in a Motorhome.

Cross Creek Camping Resort, Delaware, Ohio

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Only a one night stop over on our way south but we were quite happy with the park. Our site was level and hydro was good. Since only there for the night we didn't fully hookup. WiFi was good enough (normal RV park quality). The people in the office were very friendly as were any of the help we ran into. They had a small dog park up at the front but the dogs seemed happy with it so that is all that matters. We would stay again when we are in the area heading north or south. We camped at Cross Creek Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Willow Lake Campground and RV Park, Woodstock, Ontario

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for a week at the end of September. Owners were friendly and always had a smile. One side of the park was permanent park model homes and well maintained. Other side was a mixture of seasonal and transient. Grounds in this area were also maintained well. There was no WiFi or any cable TV. This could be important for the future of the park. We fortunately had our own hotspot. The city of Woodstock has nothing of a tourist nature to offer. Our site (pull-through) could use some attention to leveling. We had to block up the front tires because they were off the ground. We would use the park again in the future if we were in the area. We camped at Willow Lake Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pinery Provincial Park, Grand Bend, Ontario

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This has been the nicest provincial park that we have stayed at. It is a very big park. Took us over 5 minutes to exit the park from our camp site. Our impression was probably aided by the fact we were not there during high season and overrun with people. It was very quiet during this time. The sites were situated such that they had that woodsy feel with plenty of privacy. Be prepared that if you want to explore the park you will be needing a car or be used to riding a bike for many miles. We camped at Pinery Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Knight's HideAway Campground, Ridgefield, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for a month to be close to family for wedding (rate was based on monthly rate). Site was plenty big for us but was one of those face your neighbour kind that we don't really like. The hydro was supposed to be 50amp but on heavy weekends we had troubles with low voltage blowing the campground breaker. We found if we used only one side of the 50amp using our EMS we were okay. The park is very old and I was told that the underground utilities need some work. The sewer system was not really a piped system but a concrete tank in the ground between sites. It was pumped out on a regular basis. Rained a lot and the grounds didn't drain well. Made for some muddy dog walks. Wifi was actually adequate for us. Didn't have to use our hotspot. Owners and workers were friendly. Even with the items we pointed out we still enjoyed our stay there as a base to visit family in the area. We would use it again for a long term stay in the area. We camped at Knight's HideAway Campground in a Motorhome.

Rideau Acres Campground, Kingston, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 7 nites in a pull-through site by the waters edge. It was a great site at the end of the row so no one was out our front door. Great views of the waters edge from out the front window. Close to the city of Kingston with it's many attractions. We were so impressed with the area that we booked a longer stay for next year. The park landscaping was top notch. Made for enjoyable dog walks along the many waterfront trails. One draw back was the lack of wifi but this didn't affect us as we had our own hotspot. We camped at Rideau Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Emily Provincial Park, Peterborough, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 8 days. Older Provincial Park than we have been in. Site was called a pull through but it would be hard to do that. Motorhome barely fit across site on the only level spot. However it was plenty wide with room for the tow dolly and car. Any bigger RV would have a problem. The roads were at one time asphalt but are now all broken up and rutted. Keeps the speeding down though. Walk to the beach and boat launch area was not outrageous from the hill top sites. We found it funny that the camp store was so far away from the actual camp sites. It's located in the day use area. Needed a bike or car to get to it from the campgrounds. They could have sold more ice cream and kept the 3 summer students manning the place a little busier. Forget the laundromats. Only 2 old washers. One of 2 dryers was broken. My major complaint is that they have not made allowances for larger rigs. The trees are overhanging the road ways into the sites. We have some new scars in the form of scratches high up on the side of the coach from tree branches that protruded onto the roadways. They have built a new dump station and water fill site which is quite nice. However someone came up with the bright idea to cut the fittings off the rinse hose at the dump station so you can't attach it and flush the black tank. It's only good for flushing out the hose. Don't think we will visit again and wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has tall motorhome or 5th wheel. We camped at Emily Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Arrowhead Provincial Park, Huntsville, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the better Provincial Parks we've been in. We were in a fairly new section with about 8 pull-throughs. The site was great with plenty of room for the coach and car. As with most Provincial Parks we only had electricity (50Amp) although there was a water spigot at each of these sites. They were gravel as compared to sand and dirt in the other campgrounds. It was also shady enough for the warm days. It's a big park area wise. Actually have to drive to the beaches or store. Fishing was pretty good in the main lake (Arrowhead Lake) with quite a few large mouth bass caught and released. We would stay here again for that closer to nature camping. Only drawback was there were no laundry facilities. Had to go into Huntsville for that. Unfortunately there was a fire ban on so missed the campfire. We camped at Arrowhead Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Shangri-La Park Campground, St. Catharines, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a month in a pull through site. There are about 50 sites for transients. The rest are seasonal. Park is well located in the 20 Valley wine region. Sites were pull through back to back which didn't appeal to us. We did luckily have a good neighbor though. Overall the sites were level and maintained but there was no shade and it was exceptionally hot the month we were there. The power was 30 Amp which was sufficient except for the July 1st hot holiday weekend when the voltage kept dropping and we had a hard time running the A/C. The pool is too far away unless you have a cart to get down to the valley. Can't figure why it's so far out off the way and it's only open July and August. There are no sewer hookups but there are pump-outs ($8.00). Since we were there for a month we had to us this. Overall the park was reasonable but I don't think we will stay again for. Lack of shade, inaccessible pool and no sewer hookups were draw backs. We camped at Shangri-La Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Only stayed one night but will have to look at a longer stay in the future. Small park but had concrete sites with patio and table. Great utilities and superior (for an RV park) Wifi. Check in was easy, although no one was at the office. Trusted you to pay later. Sweet lady doing the check-in. Nice pond on site with fountain. RV sales office next door. Sunbury / Columbus North KOA, Sunbury, Ohio

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Just a one night stop over on our way back from wintering in the south. The park had just opened for the season the week before so it was still quiet. Wish we could have spent more time there. The site was great and the utilities all worked well. We did have to shut the water down one night because of freeze warnings but it didn't affect us because we had enough onboard. We would stay there again but unfortunately the park is closed when we will be heading down south in November. We camped at Sunbury / Columbus North KOA in a Motorhome.
