Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, Micanopy, Florida
Date of Stay:
October, 2019 -
$9.00
Overall Rating:
This is another nice Florida state park. It is convenient for an overnight stopover when traveling I-75. The campground roads are a little narrow with trees but it can be safely navigated with care. Bathhouses are nice, good OTA-TV signals, and I had a good T-Mobile signal. It's a good campground to hike and bike. Total cost for one night (Florida senior resident) was $16.78 with the camping fee, reservation fee, and tax. We camped at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tickfaw State Park, Springfield, Louisiana
Date of Stay:
October, 2019 -
$25.00
Overall Rating:
We used this campground for an overnight stopover while traveling on I-10. It is a great state park. The only drawback is it is somewhat difficult to get to. The Google Maps route I used coming from the west took me on some very narrow backroads. A better way to come in is from the Springfield area using 1037. It's a beautiful state park, clean bathhouse, laundry, etc. We had good OTA TV but no T-Mobile signal. We camped at Tickfaw State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Blackwater River State Park , Holt, Florida
Date of Stay:
October, 2019 -
$10.00
Overall Rating:
Stayed at this park on a one night stopover while traveling on I-10. The park is off the beaten path a bit but no problem to get to. We had reservations so there was an extra $8 for the reservation fee and for taxes. Total charge was $17.90 for the night. The campsite was very nice with FHU. We had good privacy and the clean bathhouse was nearby. We had good OTA TV from Mobile but next to no T-Mobile signal. It was a great camping experience and we plan to go back. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Arrowhead State Park, Wichita Falls, Texas
Date of Stay:
October, 2019 -
$22.00
Overall Rating:
We camped at this state park for an overnight stay while traveling through the area. We reserved a campsite not too far from the bath house. The site itself was very nice with good spacing between sites. We could hear the oil pumpjack near the campsite but it was not loud or annoying. The bathhouse was okay but could use more attention in the cleaning department. I noticed the floor had been mopped and it was stocked with TP. The showers were a bit funky but they were usable. What the bathhouse really needed was a good, deep cleaning and a bit of plumbing maintenance. I got good OTA TV from Wichita Falls and a very weak T-Mobile signal. We camped at Lake Arrowhead State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:
Overpriced for what you get. I was charged $51 for a gravel site that was not level. I had just water and electric at my site (no sewer). There were some water puddles in the interior roads. Sites were very close together with hardly any vegetation. So what you have is a gravel parking lot with clean bathrooms. The nearby Oasis RV Resort on the west side of Amarillo is a better deal. We camped at Amarillo KOA in a Travel Trailer.
Oasis RV Resort is a better deal at this price.

Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA, Sallisaw, Oklahoma
Date of Stay:
October, 2019 -
$42.00
Overall Rating:
This is a good KOA campground for an overnight stopover. It has good roads for big-rigs and has mostly pull-through campsites. The campsites themselves are close together with very little in the way of privacy. The location is quiet. The bath house was very clean. The Wi-Fi signal was excellent. I had an excellent T-Mobile signal. We camped at Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Wallace Creek COE, Enid, Mississippi

$10.00
Overall Rating:
This has to be one of the nicest campgrounds we've ever visited. We had a great campsite with a view of the reservoir. The sites are clean, spacious, and have FHU. Many are pull-through and many are back in. Take your pick. This is a beautiful area with lots of places to walk, bike, etc. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I had a good T-Mobile signal and lots of OTA TV stations. We camped at Wallace Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, Fritch, Texas
Date of Stay:
September, 2019 -
$26.00
Overall Rating:
Really nice campground at a national recreation area. We stayed at the hook-up site location at the Sanford-Yake where we had made a reservation. The site was a large pull-through with a beautiful view of the reservoir. There was also a covered picnic table there along with a large fire ring. The bathhouse was nearby with individual bathrooms. They were very clean. I had decent T-Mobile service and numerous OTA TV stations from Amarillo. We did see a large bull snake in the morning. It looked like a rattlesnake at first but it was not aggressive. I'd recommend being careful about that. We camped at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
Kind of a ways from town. I'd stock up on supplies before I get there. Good roads for bicycles.

Brushy Lake Park, Sallisaw, Oklahoma
Date of Stay:
September, 2019 -
$20.00
Overall Rating:
Not big rig friendly. The road from Sallisaw (about 6 miles) is very narrow. It would be easy to drop a trailer tire off the shoulder. The park itself is very dated. The bath houses were some of the worst I have seen. Yuk! Electric and water hook-ups available. Dump station on the way out. Not me, never again. We camped at Brushy Lake Park in a Travel Trailer.

Whitten Park COE, Fulton, Mississippi
Date of Stay:
September, 2019 -
$10.00
Overall Rating:
Arrived with reservations to find that my site was occupied but vacant. I think this is the first time this has happened to me at a COE facility. Contacted the campground host who said to take any unoccupied site as that was what everybody does. Okay, found a site that I liked and there was no problem. It is a very nice COE campground in a wooded area. The bath houses were exceptionally clean. I had some OTA TV stations and my T-Mobile signal worked. I would go back again. We camped at Whitten Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Small park but very nice. Good spacing between sites. Facility is clean and well-cared for. Not much in the way of T-Mobile signal or OTA TV. Would use again for a short-term stay. Dump station was really dirty with no water hose for cleaning. We camped at Old Post Road COE in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Eufaula State Park, Checotah, Oklahoma
Date of Stay:
September, 2019 -
$28.00
Overall Rating:
The park is an old one. It is decent if you use the FHU sites and don't need anything more. The park gave me the impression that it has been neglected and is very run down. A major remodel is overdue. The bath houses were really bad. Bull doze them and rebuild! Some interior roads are narrow with no shoulders. Some overhanging branches. I won't be going back. We camped at Lake Eufaula State Park in a Travel Trailer.

$50.00
Overall Rating:
We have stayed here a number of times in the past. We have always enjoyed our stay for a stopover. This time we stopped and found the rates had increased to $50/night. I think this is too much for what is basically a nice parking lot with clean bathhouses. Yes it does have FHU so if a tidy parking lot with good management is what you are looking for, this is the place. We camped at Oasis RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Azalea Acres RV Park, Robertsdale, Alabama
Date of Stay:
February, 2019 -
$31.00
Overall Rating:
We planned to stay two nights to visit the USS Alabama but changed plans and only stayed one night due to the rainy weather. This park is obviously very well-run with what seems to be excellent management. The park is clean and orderly. Our campsite was level with plenty of room for our TT and tow vehicle. There is good spacing between sites. I had numerous OTA channels from nearby Mobile and my T-Mobile signal was good. The park has quite a few seasonal residents who seem to know one another. I think this would be a nice park for snowbirds. We didn't stay long enough to see what there is to do in the area. For commercial RV parks, this one is hard to beat. It makes for an excellent overnight stop but I recommend getting a reservation. We camped at Azalea Acres RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Blue Spring State Park, Orange City, Florida
Date of Stay:
January, 2019 -
$12.00
Overall Rating:
Another nice Florida state park. It is interesting to see the manatees and other wildlife. The park is very popular and can reach maximum capacity in the day-use area. There can be back-ups at the entrance station but they allow campers with reservations to shortcut the line. The campground itself can be a tight squeeze getting parked into some of the campsites. I had some difficulty getting my 28' TT into the campsite but once I got it around the trees and bushes around the entrance, there was plenty of space for both my TT and tow vehicle. There are lots of trees and vegetation in the campground which provides plenty of privacy between sites. Bathrooms were very clean. The campground volunteers were really doing a great job. All in all a very nice visit. It is just a little bit on the crowded side. We camped at Blue Spring State Park in a Travel Trailer.
The St. John's River Cruise is an interesting couple of hours. De Leon Springs State Park is not far and worth the drive. Check out the Sugar Mill Restaurant there.
