Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Swannanoa, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean & convenient campground to tour Biltmore and Asheville. We stayed in a site on the top of the mountain with a view of mountains. The site was a level pull through, all gravel with no shade. Those sites had full hookups with plenty of room. There are shaded sites on lower mountain levels but they looked tight for long trailer truck combinations. The place is extremely well kept with spotless bathrooms and laundry facilities. The people are friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Buy only a one day pass at Biltmore on-line to get free headsets for the self guided house tour. Then book a guided specialty tour when you are at Biltmore for a second day. Your admission to the estate the second day will then be free. Tours ranged from $11 for a winery tour to $32 for the legacy of the land tour. We really enjoyed the legacy land tour. There is so much to do at Biltmore that you will want to spend 2 days if you can.

Fort Yargo State Park, Winder, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a night passing through. Beautiful spot right on a lake. Multiple sites in view of the lake. Very well tended sites, nice and level, some pull through. Friendly staff. They do have trains nearby that are really loud during the night. We would stay here again and keep all windows closed while running the fan to mask the noise. Really gorgeous setting. We camped at Fort Yargo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Seems to be a good fishing spot.

Oak Plantation Campground, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Clean small reasonable laundry. Near roadways so noise from that. The main issue we had is that the woman in charge is not customer focused. We requested a shady spot 4 months in advance. The campground was not full and shady spots near us were open the entire time we were there. We inquired nicely about moving to one of these shady spots but were denied. It’s an ok park, but nothing special. We won’t stay here again. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold, New Jersey

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful wooded state park with nicely set sites spread out. Sites are dirt but level. Water and electricity only but they have a dump station. Easy off the highway, but far enough away there is not a hint of traffic noise. We camped at Turkey Swamp Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Arrowhead Marina & RV Park, Schenectady, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a lovely park by the river. One of the prettiest we have stayed at. However I must disagree with some other reviews on the train noise. We found the train is very loud and it blows the horns many times as it comes by the park. So if you have problems sleeping this could be an issue. We camped at Arrowhead Marina & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Grove RV Park and Campground, Greenwood, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Jack, the owner of this campground was extremely kind and helpful to us. We found out just prior to arrival that a portion of our roof was bubbling up. We called ahead and found out a mobile Rv repairman happened to be working on another unit on site. The repairman made a temporary small fix, but were told to get the unit to a dealer to have it permanently fixed. Jack came to see how we made out and suggested we might want to make an additional temporary fix. He suggested a 2x4 secured to the roof with ratchet straps to hold it in place. He then offered us the tools and materials to get the job done. He answered our questions and would not let us pay him for what was at least $30 of brand new materials. He said just send the straps back when we were done with them. His kindness was exceptional! The campground was also very clean and had nice trees, picnic tables, a very nice pool and the nicest laundry I have ever seen. We will definitely be back. We camped at Pine Grove RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sleepy Hollow RV Park & Campground, Oxford, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We have a self contained unit so we did not take a shower. The restroom was ok clean, not great, not awful. The grounds are well kept. Decent area to walk around. The small lake. Nice play area and lots of outside games, activities for kids on saturdays. IMPORTANT TO KNOW - they have FIXED any sizeable ruts in the road as of the end of Aug 2017. We had no significant problems bringing in our 5th wheel. Many of the sites are on a hill but the sites are reasonably level. It is near a highway, but the site we had away from it got no road noise. It has cheap quick laundry (1.50 & .75). It felt very safe here and people were pleasant. Lots of people were vacationing for the weekend but we heard no unreasonable noise. We would stay here again. We camped at Sleepy Hollow RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Very close to visit the 7 Amana Villages, particularly Amana itself. Very pretty and charming with shops, restaurants, beer hall, wineries. Note most shops close at 5 even on Friday night during the summer. We got there around 3pm but wish I had had 1/2 a day or a whole day to visit all the villages.
