Triple C's Campground & RV Park (Formerly Chattahoochee/Tallahassee W', Chattahoochee, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Best camphosts we have come across. Pride in their work and they go the extra mile. Pretty campground with tall trees and a nice pool. Easy to navigate my 35' 5th wheel. Hosts made a big group campfire next to the pool in the evening. Perfectly clean bathrooms (that have obviously been updated). We purchased propane and the host help me with the bottle. I think all sites are pull-thrus. Most sites had picnic tables, but ours did not. I would come here again for sure. I would even stay a while if I knew of what to do in the area. We camped at Triple C's Campground & RV Park (Formerly Chattahoochee/Tallahassee W' in a Fifth Wheel.

Campgrounds of the South, Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The price is right. I had a pull-thru full hook-ups. All worked well. It was a paved pad, but old and broken up. Bathrooms were clean. This place is next to the highway and an airport (the helicopters so loud that I though they had mistaken my trailer as a landing pad). It was fine for one night, and I would stay here again. We camped at Campgrounds of the South in a Fifth Wheel.

We were amazed at how white the sand was at the beach in Gulfport.

A+ Motel & RV Park, Sulphur, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

All very nice concrete pads. Well laid out, easy to navigate. I got a pull-thru 50amp full-hook ups for one night. Bathroom was clean (showers were so, so, but clean) and the bathroom was warm! (Why so many campgrounds don't heat their bathrooms is beyond me). The park was just about full. It looks like a lot of people work seasonally around there. It was a nice enough park to stay at for a few days for sure, but nothing to do there. Only issue I had was that the water spigot was only about 6" off the ground - there would be no way to attach a water filter to that end and I even had a hard time just getting my hose to attach. We camped at A+ Motel & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I had forgotten my water regulator at home, but luckily a couple of miles down the road is Southern Mobile Home & RV Supply that had just what I needed!

Goethe Trailhead Ranch, Dunnellon, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Overall a good campground, but the price is too high for what they offer. It was $45, plus an extra $5 per person over 2 people, so it was $50 + tax and cash only for us. Plus: wide open and very easy to maneuver. I asked for a pull-thru, but none were open, but it was very easy to back my 35' 5th wheel (and could have pulled through 2 back to back back-ins if I had wanted). Bathroom very clean & well stock, though they were chilly one cool evening. Grass sites are not all level, some have lots of large ant mounds, no fire rings, no picnic tables. No one was at the campground, office was closed the 2 days I was there. I was asked to leave cash in the box by the office. I had misunderstood when I made the reservation - I thought it was $50 for both nights, but it was per night. It just does not have enough amenities to charge that much (and most of the other RV parks around do not appear to be this much). BUT, this place is a horse ranch - so a lot of people had their horses and trailers. Maybe the cost includes having your horse there or something. I would not come back here. Oh, and it had for sale signs in front of it (Jan 2018). We camped at Goethe Trailhead Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here so we could visit Rainbow Springs to swim in the crystal clear water and to see the Manatees at Three Sisters Springs. Both great places.

Travelers Woods, Bernardston, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We have been traveling straight for 90 days and over 10,000 miles and have now stayed at lots of places. This, hands down, was the friendliest place we stayed. I asked for a pull-thru site, but the woman at the desk (I suspect the owner) put us in an end back-in site that she let us pull-thru. This backed (or fronted in our case) to a huge grass area that the playground was on the other side of. Site was all beautiful grass. The seasonal folks there were so friendly: chatting with us and asking me if I needed anything. In the office, they helped me find things to do in the area and gave my kids ice pops on the way out.

I would rate this a 9 1/2, only taking off because the bathrooms, though totally clean, were older and I opted not to shower there. I would 100% come back here if we are in the area again.

*** NOTE: Be sure to use their directions. The exit closest to them goes through a narrow 11' underpass.*** We camped at Travelers Woods in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We visited the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, MA with my children. Second time we have been there. Could spend hours in the library, art room and the bookstore, let alone the exhibits. Then visited Flayvors of Cook Farm down the road for some very excellent ice cream. We also visited the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls: a very beautiful area to walk around.

Medora Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Positives: Very, very close to the entrance of Theodor Roosevelt NP. Pretty nice setting as well. Has a playground my kids enjoyed. Negatives: The sites were too close (but plenty long). I made sure that I left enough room next to my neighbor's picnic table as to not crowd them when I pulled in, but the neighbors on the other side of me did not do the same. We had maybe 2' of clearance between our picnic table and the neighbor's rig. I think the price is too much considering how packed in the sites were & given the location. Bathrooms were adequate & had tp, hand soap and hand dryers. Did not shower there. Wish I had stayed inside TRNP instead. We camped at Medora Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop, Bastrop, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here many times & love it, but this was the first in our 35' 5th wheel. We were supposed to be in site 30, but when we pulled up to it, the very nice park host came by and thought the site was too short for us, so she switched us to site 9, which was plenty long for truck & trailer. Site had 50amp and water, and a dump station on the way out. There are 4 private bathrooms with sink, toilet & shower each- and another set of 4 around the corner (and another set by the cabins). South Shore was not affected by the 2011 Bastrop fire (unlike the devastated Bastrop State Park was). Enjoy the pine trees and lake. We take our elementary age kids trail riding on Swift/Gideon/Lobolly and Heron trails & have hiked the North-South Trailway between the South Shore & North Shore parks. We swim in the dedicated swim area & have also rent canoes and once saw an eagle flying overhead! Fishing is very popular here. We have also tented camped and rented cabins (that have AC & heat) - all good experiences. As with all parks around this area - they fill up fast on weekends and even weekdays in good weather. We camped at South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Enjoy the pine trees in this park, but to understand the devastation of the 2011 fire, you should visit Bastrop State Park across the street. You will also see all of the new growth that is springing up. If you cycle, take your bike into Bastrop State Park on Park Road 1C for a hilly out & back ride to Buescher State Park. If you mountain bike, drive the 15 miles to Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville. Downtown Bastrop offers some shopping and places to eat.

Waco North RV Park, West, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

First RV park stay ever, so nothing to compare it to. We stayed one night with our 32' 5th wheel on the way home from the dealership picking it up. We got a pull-thru site way in the back, I think site G. Very easy in and out of the site & plenty of room to have truck parked in front of trailer. Utilities worked fine. We did not have a picnic table. The site was a bit un-level. The park is basically between 1-35 and a train track. At night, I think we heard the train more than the 1-35 traffic noise. There is a playground that is in acceptable condition. Check-in was easy (we had a reservation) and we followed the attendant to our spot - he asked if we needed any more help, but we declined. Women's bathrooms looked freshly painted (with wildflowers), but not updated. We camped at Waco North RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
