Florida Caverns State Park, Marianna, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Due to Hurricane Irma hitting my local area, as an evacuee I was forced out of Florida but on the way back stopped at this state park for free. Governor Rick Scott announced that all state parks were giving free entrance and overnight stays to evacuees of Florida. This park has the nicest people in the office (where you make your reservations or check-in). When I arrived at my site #6, it was difficult for me to back in so I recruited assistance from the Camp Host and the man he was speaking with. After 2 hours, I was backed in, set up, and relaxing with my trusted companion furbaby in the air conditioning. There were also Camp Hosts in training there. Everyone I came in contact with was very helpful, happy, friendly and professional. The park is VERY clean! Oh what a great time I had. The sites are all level with gravel and 2 handicapped sites have a concrete pad. I was excited to hear that this state park had water, electric and SEWER on each site! There is a washer and dryer on the outside of the bath house. I would recommend Florida Caverns State Park to everyone! I loved it and will go back! We camped at Florida Caverns State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

I went on the ADA cavern tour with tour guides Brooke and Robinson. There are stores with in 10 minutes away after leaving the park. Grocery Outlet has really good meat and low low prices. I was thrilled. There is a Domino's in town and a few gas stations. Bring mosquito repellant!

Prairie Creek COE, Lowndesboro, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

I was traveling with 3 other friends, do not get to this park after dark as it is difficult to back in at night. There are a few lights by the bathhouse but not at site 7. I really enjoyed staying at Prairie Creek COE. My site was on the creek side, there were egrets, turtles and fish. VERY peaceful and quiet. There is a picnic table and fire ring. Water & electric at the site was perfect. There is a dump station which was easy to use. Big dumpsters for trash by the dump station. The camp host was friendly and informative. I have this COE marked as one of my favorites. We camped at Prairie Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring a lantern with you to hang on the lantern pole provided. Watch for banana spiders, they are harmless and spin a beautiful web which is really strong. This campground is dog friendly with plenty of grass for them to roll around. There are some sites with a sitting area on the creek where you can fish from. The park is very clean and well maintained.

Big South Fork National River & Rec Area, Bandy Creek Campground (NPS), Oneida, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

I love love love this park! My stay was in Area D, Site 42. Plenty of room, VERY level site (fastest set up ever). The peace and quiet was amazing! Nice fire pit and picnic table on a gravel area next to the site pad. Although this is a good size site, there is parking for your vehicle right across the road from your site nearest to the bathroom/shower building. 4G LTE service the entire time. D42 is right across from the bathroom/shower building, it was the CLEANEST EVER. All the employees of the park were extremely nice and helpful. Bandy Creek is located closest to Oneida where there are an assortment of stores, gas and a laundromat. Bandy Creek does not have an onsite laundry. There are no sewer hookups at the sites but they do have a dump station. The water pressure is great (I use a regulator). The hookups are clean and well maintained. Just beyond the entrance there is a huge pool (not open when I stayed) but all areas were ultra clean. I did drive around area A, C and D. This campground is very clean everywhere. The roads that loop around the campground areas are wide enough for two vehicles and wide trailers. They do have wi-fi but after inquiring at the campground store, it's only available by the store and the educational center. If you own a horse, they have stables and trails for riding. Will I return to Bandy Creek? ABSOLUTELY! We camped at Big South Fork National River & Rec Area, Bandy Creek Campground (NPS) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to the Campground Store, they have a small theater with a movie on Bandy Creek/Big Fork. Do not leave food outside as there are bears in the area (I never saw any). Keep your pets on leash and in your sight. Because of bears, I wouldn't leave them unattended at your site while you are gone.

Cedars of Lebanon State Park, Lebanon, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

I called 3 days ahead my needing a site. First, I was told that there were sites available but since the person on the phone was new she transferred me to another person who said that they were all booked. I found the state park website and browsed through the sites that were available for the 9 nights I would be staying. The pictures of the sites are VERY deceiving. My reservation was for Campground Area 1 and a pull through site. Upon arriving, the sites in Campground Area 1 are extremely close to each other. This reminded me of a trailer park. My neighbors were very nice but I didn't feel like "sharing kawfee" through the window. I went to the camp store where reservations are made/changed. I was given a map of the park with the sites that would be open for my stay marked. There were several sites marked in Campground Area 2. I picked one but when I arrived at the site, it was too small for my travel trailer, not to mention the length of my truck. Knowing that the site next to that one was open and much longer, I parked there, set up and just as I was calling the office to explain about the change there was a knock on my door. It was the Park Ranger who informed me that I could only have this site until check out time 2 days from today. I would never again come to this state park. It's $24 a night (before discount) for water and electric, they do have a dump station. Even though I have a good cell service provider, I can not get 4G service here. The cell service is spotty at best even on 3G. I browsed the internet (as much as I could) and found another park. So instead of staying and moving to another site 2 days from now, I will just leave. We camped at Cedars of Lebanon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Nashville is about 40 minutes from here. Too bad I'll never see it. If you leave the campground, take Route 231 N to get into the town of Lebanon. Gas is around $2.05 per gallon according to how far into town you go.

T. O. Fuller State Park, Memphis, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This park is peaceful & quiet. The Camp host & his dog, BB, have been EXCELLENT! Park Rangers are wonderful! There is sewer but only a dump station toward the entrance/exit. I LOVE it here! There is a laundry/shower/restroom building with a huge ice machine. The dryers get nice and hot! I would recommend this park to everyone! It is located within 15 minutes of all attractions and easy to navigate. If you have children, there is a playground area. We camped at T. O. Fuller State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This park has been occupied but equally empty during my stay. They do take credit cards via the Park Ranger. I called about an hour ahead of my arrival and reserved a site. Beale Street, Bass Pro Shop Pyramid, Graceland, the Memphis Zoo and other attractions are all within 15 minutes. Also within 15-20 minutes is the Mississippi State line where I found many shops including a Dollar Tree and WalMart. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY!
