White Cloud Casino, White Cloud, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here two nights. The price is great, full service, water, electric and sewer for $5/night. The location is remote, in far northeast Kansas, just a few miles west of the Missouri River (and Missouri) and only a few miles south of the Nebraska border. The RV park itself is very basic, along the edge of the casino parking lot. There is a casino with restaurant, neither of which I used, and that is all the civilization but for farms within probably 15 t0 20 miles. The restroom I rated was in the casino. Still, being from the east coast, I enjoyed seeing and exploring the area. We camped at White Cloud Casino in a Travel Trailer.

Atwood Lion's Park, Atwood, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Pleasant, basic RV park, on a nice lake in town. Price for water and electric is very reasonable. There is a nice 1+ mile walking trail around the lake. Service is very basic, it is essentially 'self-serve'. You pick a site and then walk to a nearby convenience store to get the key that unlocks the power. We camped at Atwood Lion's Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camping Transit, Levis, Quebec

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here two nights while visiting Quebec City. This is a very clean, well organized and well run park. I found the staff to be quite friendly and pleasant. I opted for water and electric, it would've cost extra for sewer. There is free wifi internet in the clubhouse but to get internet at the site costs extra, 2.50 Canadian$. Showers cost extra as well but only 0.25 Canadian. These extra costs were a bit of turnoff to me but I paid for wifi and it worked very well, the shower was good too. The main unpleasantness is that the park is right next to the Trans-Canada Highway and there are no barriers at all so the sound of speeding cars and trucks cannot be avoided. On the plus side this makes very easy access to X-Country travelers. We camped at Camping Transit in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a great place to stay to visit Quebec City (QC). The park does offer a free shuttle into QC, although I did not take advantage of it. I like bicycling so I rode my bicycle from the park to the ferry terminal in the town of Levis where I rode the ferry over to QC. Levis and QC both have excellent bike paths along the St. Lawrence.

Wesley Clover Parks Campground (formerly Ottawa Municipal Camp), Ottawa, Ontario

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is clean, well maintained park in an excellent location for visiting Ottawa. The entire park is wooded and sites are close but reasonably isolated thanks to the trees. I enjoy bicycling and there are excellent paved trails in the expansive "Greenway" that surrounds the park. It is close to the Trans-Canada highway which makes it convenient but has the drawback that one can hear some of the vehicle noise. We camped at Wesley Clover Parks Campground (formerly Ottawa Municipal Camp) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The city of Ottawa is lovely. As a capitol city there are excellent museums, architecture and restaurants and activities. Excellent bicycling in the Greenway that surrounds the park. I bicycled pretty much entirely on paved bicycle trails all the way into the downtown along the scenic Ottawa River, it is about 12 miles to the Parliament Building.

Janes Island State Park, Crisfield, Maryland

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights at Janes Island SP and had a very pleasant experience. Our sight was right on the river separating the mainland from the island, it was clean and flat. Note that water and sewer are not at the sites, only electricity, however, water faucets and restrooms are plentiful. There is a very nice marina with kayak & canoe rentals. The 'island' is essentially an uninhabited (by humans) marsh in the Chesapeake Bay. There are marked kayak trails throughout the island. We rented a tandem kayak and managed to get lost but eventually made it back. Fishing, crabbing, kayaking and canoeing are prime activities. The terrain is flat and the roads are bicycle friendly as well. There is a camp store and activity center with great activities for youngsters. We camped at Janes Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Being astride a marsh and the Chesapeake Bay, bring insect repellent and expect to use it frequently. Only a mile from the park is the historic Chesapeake Bay town of Crisfield. From there one can catch ferries to the inhabited islands in the bay, Smith Island in MD and Tangier Island in VA. We went to Smith ($26 per person round trip). It was a pleasant experience and worth doing.

Big Woods Lake Campground, Cedar Falls, Iowa

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I enjoyed my stay at Big Woods very much. It helped that the weather was perfect, sunny and low 70's. I first paid for just one night as I was passing through but my evening and the next morning were so pleasant I stayed another night. The park is on a lake with a paved bike/walk path all around (2 miles) and there is a paved trail into downtown Cedar Falls, with lots of nice restaurants and pubs, just 2 miles as well. The price for full hook-up is outstanding and the restroom/showers are the best I've encountered in my current trip across the northwest US, now heading southeast. We camped at Big Woods Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

American Legion Campground, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I had a very pleasant one night stay at the American Legion Park in Detroit Lakes. I wish I could have stayed longer. It helped a lot that the weather was absolutely gorgeous. The park is just one block off the lake, in town and easy walk to lake beach and restaurants along the lake shore drive. The owners were very amenable to my request for a late departure so I was able to ride my bicycle around the lake - twice in fact (note: 1 loop of the lake is just a tad over 10 miles). I took a shower in the bath house and it was fine. I had a pull through site for my camper trailer with water and electric but no sewer. Sites are quite close together and shade is limited. We camped at American Legion Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Grand Forks AFB (Military FamCamp), Grand Forks, North Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed on May 4, technically before their season begins so the shower and restroom building was not open. In any case, the water and electricity were working and this met my needs. The grounds were clean and flat and the facilities on the base were more than adequate. I used the laundry on base to wash clothes. There is no internet available at the campground. Also, something important to be aware of, the location of the water, electric and sewer are very poorly designed. They are together at the back of each pad, some a distance removed. The first pad I chose, my 25 foot electric cord was inadequate (sewer totally out to the question). Fortunately it being early and almost completely unoccupied, I took another where I could get within 25 feet of the electric. It was still not easy. We camped at Grand Forks AFB (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Buffalo Gap Guest Ranch & RV Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here two nights, Apr 30 - May 2, 2017. I was the only RV here. The RV park is on a broad open space and the winds were challenging (but this is North Dakota after all, wind goes with the territory). This place is isolated, about 2 miles off I-94 at exit 18 on a gravel road. The nearest town is Medora, 10 miles further east. It has a very nice restaurant and bar which I walked through but did not use. I enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again. It has internet, but the signal was weak. We camped at Buffalo Gap Guest Ranch & RV Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is accessed from the town of Medora, 10 miles distant on I-94. Medora itself is a very nice, touristy town, but it does not come to life till mid-May and I was here earlier. It was essentially empty on May 1.

Jim & Mary's RV Park, Missoula, Montana

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed 2 nights at Jim and Mary's RV Park and found it to be a pleasant experience. It is very convenient to the interstate but far enough removed that noise or congestion is completely absent. I did hear the occasional freight train rumble in the night but never any whistles. The sites themselves are nicely spaced out and trees are throughout. We camped at Jim & Mary's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Peaceful Pines RV Park, Cheney, Washington

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed two nights and found this park to be very pleasant. Yes, the train tracks are nearby but they didn't bother me. It was clean and had all the services I needed. It is a rather small place but that's nice in my book. The weather when I stayed there was below average for late April, cool and wet. I used the campground shower and found it clean and warm inside and the water was as hot as one might want. I would stay there again. We camped at Peaceful Pines RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
