Lake Sara Campground, Effingham, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Last summer I stayed with friends that have a permanent lot in this campground. This place has a lot of potential, but it is extremely poorly managed. The manager is rude to the seasonal people. They have Nothing good to say about him. When they go to ask him a question, he says, "today is my off day. I can't be bothered!" The manager's home is a DUMP! He has stuff all over his lot. I watched him mowing the grass while I was there. He mows full speed and never picks up a twig or limb. There are even rotting logs on the ground. He just mows around THEM! He never keeps the grass near the docks or in the ditches maintained. I asked him if he had laundry facilities. He said yes, but at the time they are being repaired. After talking to some seasonal people, I found out that the laundry area has been out of order for almost two seasons. There are some floating docks, but there are also many old wooden docks that are falling apart and dangerous to be standing on. Again, the seasonal people said the owners have new docks, but they have been rotting in the ditches for the past two seasons. I asked the people why the owner keeps the manager around if he is doing such a poor job. Their response? Because he is the owner's brother-in-law! I guess that answers the question! Do not waste your time going to this dump! We camped at Lake Sara Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
