We've stayed at Miller's Ferry several times over the years. This trip was different. There seems to be some sort of breakdown between the camp hosts and the COE staff. The campsites themselves were well kept with grass cut, no paper or trash, etc. However, the bathhouses were an absolute wreck. Also, the two dumpsters at the campground were literally overflowing with garbage. It was piled around the dumpsters on the ground and smelled horrible. After the dumpers were emptied, garbage was left all over the ground. I noticed a broken gallon pickle jar and raw meat. The bathhouses themselves were constantly in need of having the trash taken out. Always in need of toilet paper. Ladies' shower was okay, but the men's showers had no shower heads. At one point, my husband overheard the COE employee tell the park hosts that she couldn't go into the bathroom because there was someone in there. I was in there, without toilet paper, and couldn't figure out why a female employee would not enter a ladies' room to gather trash and leave TP. The campground hosts were very nice. Also, met us at the gate when we came in late at 8 p.m. As I said, the sites were in good shape. The other big turn-off was the dog situation. Two campsites down, a family had a dog tied out on a lead that barked non-stop. I wasn't the only one to complain, but nothing was done. When that family packed up and left, another family showed up with a barking dog. I go camping for a little quiet time with my family. I don't think I'm alone in this. I don't think I should have to deal with excessively barking dogs or people drive around and around thumping their radios. After everyone crowded in and started their daytime campfires, we packed up and came home. Just not worth it. Although the view of the reservoir is beautiful, it is marred by campground issues. This is frustrating considering the nice road out to the campground from Camden and close proximity to stores, etc. We camped at Miller's Ferry Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.
Stop by Piggly Wiggly in Camden for groceries. Dollar General, Fred's and CVS are nearby. Jackson's Chicken near downtown Camden has a great lunch buffet. Get there at 11. Very busy after. Gaines Ridge has delicious food. No fast food in Camden except Hardee's. Also, check out the shops downtown and Young's Plant Nursery.
