Tallahassee East Campground , Monticello, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very run-down former KOA (still listed on the KOA website, but don't be fooled - they aren't KOA anymore). The park is in very poor condition. Although it is adjacent to I-10, you have to go to the exit just east of the park and travel county roads for a couple of miles to reach the park entrance. Interior roads and sites are dirt. All sites are pull-throughs but ours had tree roots on top of the ground. The cover for the sewer connection was a concrete plug that was difficult to remove. There are no cable or wifi, but you can get several OTA TV channels out of Tallahassee. This park needs to spend a lot of money to upgrade, but based on comments from other reviewers, things have been pretty much the same for quite awhile. I would not stay here again and do not recommend it to anyone. We camped at Tallahassee East Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Milton / Gulf Pines KOA, Milton, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

This is a typical KOA. The sites are all pull-throughs and are very long and level. Cable and wifi worked well. Our site had a big tree opposite the electric/water hookups that made maneuvering a bit tight. As noted by other reviewers, the park is next to I-10, but we didn't notice a lot of highway noise. As also noted by other reviewers, the 4-lane highway by the entrance has a divider that cuts off a left-hand turn for a return to the interstate. You have to turn right and go to the intersection by a Waffle House, where you can either make a U-turn in the middle of the road (which could be tricky with a long rig), or you can pull behind the Waffle House where there is a truck fueling area with a large enough area to turn around in (which is what we did and what I would recommend). The park was clean and the staff helpful. The price is about what you will find at any KOA. We camped at Milton / Gulf Pines KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Percy Quin State Park, Mccomb, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is an old state park that has lots of campsites and a nice lake. The interior roads are narrow asphalt paved, as are the sites which are all back-ins. Only basic services with no cable or wifi. The only OTA TV channels I could receive were Mississippi Public Television. Access was close to the interstate and the staff were very nice and helpful. The biggest draw is the price and the rustic setting. If you're looking for extra amenities you won't find them here, but if a basic, woodsy setting is your goal, then Percy Quin is a good choice. We camped at Percy Quin State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Okatoma Resort & RV Park, Hattiesburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

As noted by other reviewers, this park is in a remote location and requires driving a couple of miles on narrow county roads to reach it (hopefully, you don't have to meet another RV). The park is pretty with a nice lake. The basic entrance fee is reasonable but, as I'm finding in more and more places these days, they charge extra for wifi and cable TV (they've learned from the airlines how to gouge the public). There was an electrical problem with our site, but it was repaired within a couple of hours. Our site was mostly dirt and sand and it rained hard during the night. The next morning - mud. It would be nice if the owner would invest in some gravel. The staff were friendly and worked to meet our needs. The exit road from their property back to the county road is different from the entrance road, which is good, because both are much too narrow to meet anyone. We camped at Okatoma Resort & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sanctuary RV Resort, Bonita Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This park is located on Bonita Beach Road about 1/2 mile from I-75. You have to make a U-turn just past the park entrance to get to their driveway, but we had no trouble navigating it. When we were there, the park was still full of snowbirds but a lot of them were getting ready to head for home. When we arrived, there was a strong sewer smell and a pumper truck was just leaving, so I guess they sometimes experience sewer problems. Our site was gravel and VERY close to our neighbors on each side. We had to disconnect from our 5th wheel and park across the front of our site as it wasn't long enough otherwise. You get basic wifi (e-mail and limited internet) with your site fee, but no cable. However (and we're finding this in more and more parks these days) you can purchase satellite TV access and better wifi service for an additional fee. It seems that parks are learning from the airlines to charge extra for just about any additional "perk" that used to be included with your entrance fee. We were able to pick up a number of OTA TV channels, so if you don't have your own satellite receiver and are only wanting to stay short-term, you may want to consider that. There is a pool and (according to my wife) a very nice laundry. Instead of being coin-operated, you pay a daily fee of $5.00 for unlimited use. Don't try calling the park on the weekends because they don't seem to answer the phone except Monday-Friday. We camped at Sanctuary RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bowling Green KOA, Bowling Green, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park that is located next to I-65. It was my 2nd time to stay here. I agree with some of the maintenance concerns noted by other reviewers - the patio at my site had mud and gravel all over it. The cable TV service was DOA due to another camper who had driven off with his cable still attached (the maintenance man was in the process of digging the cable up with a backhoe as we were leaving to work on it). However, you can get several OTA channels. Wifi was good. There are LOTS of services (restaurants, shopping, and fuel stations) nearby, which is nice. The staff were very nice and allowed me to stay past the checkout time since I had a local appointment w/o charging me extra. Thanks, guys! We camped at Bowling Green KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Dayton KOA, Brookville, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The park was very crowded during our visit, but it was a Friday night and they had special activities planned that drew a large number of campers. This park is spacious and clean, with easy access. As with all KOA's, the price is somewhat expensive (even with my KOA membership), but you get what you pay for. The facilities are very nice, with lots of things to do (especially if you have small children). Both the Wifi and TV service were good. Our site was basically level but could have used some more gravel (mud). Unfortunately, we had some loud neighbors that were partying until nearly midnight - it would have been nice if someone from the park's office had monitored this and asked them to tone it down, but no one did. The park's location is near the interstate. We camped at Dayton KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Twin Mountain / Mt. Washington KOA, Twin Mountain, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

The Twin Mountain area is in a remote part of Northern New Hampshire, with the local attraction being Mount Washington. This KOA is typical of all their parks. It was clean and the staff was helpful and courteous. Also typical of all KOA's is the price - somewhat high (even though I have a KOA membership). When you check in, an employee guides you to your site and helps you to maneuver into position. I found the Wifi to work reasonably well and the cable TV (mandatory, since this is in the mountains) was good. Although our site was at the front of the park with shade trees on both sides, they have a newer section in the back of the park that is open and sunny, if this is what you prefer. Our site was level with both a picnic table and fire ring, although we didn't use them. A good park to visit if you don't mind paying the price. We camped at Twin Mountain / Mt. Washington KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

As mentioned above, Mt. Washington is the main attraction in this area. Ride the cog railway (although it was very crowded on the day we were there) to the top to get a different experience. There are minimal services in this area, but there are a couple of eating locations, a general store, and two gas stations (one of which has diesel).

Bar Harbor Campground, Bar Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This park is very unusual in that you select your own site, then go back to the office to tell them where you are located. They have a full range of sites from primitive to full hookup pull-throughs. The park was very full during our visit even though it was late in the season (they close on Columbus Day. I would rate our site as average - narrow drive, on a slope (not level), and needing to be mowed. The entrance to Acadia National Park (the main local attraction) is about 4 miles away. We camped at Bar Harbor Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Clayton Park Recreational Area, Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is located on a small lake. Be sure to follow the directions on their website - do not use GPS. Location is a few miles from the interstate along narrow county roads. Park was clean and staff are very nice. Most of the campers seemed to be long - term. Phone and Wi-Fi are limited and TV was almost non-existent (I could only get two channels). Overall nice and worth considering. We camped at Clayton Park Recreational Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Hot Springs National Park KOA, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second time to stay at this park. It is typical of most KOA's, with good facilities throughout. There are a mixture of pull-through and back-in sites. Our site (D-8, a pull-through) was easier to enter than to exit because of a tree that limits your pull-out room. I don't recommend it for larger 5th wheels or motorhomes. The park has better pull-throughs available - ask when you check in. They have a nice pool and a playground for younger children. They also advertise a fishing pond, but in reality, it's a muddy duck pond with a fountain in the middle. The office can provide fishing rods but you have to furnish your own bait. All fishing is catch-and-release. One of the nice features is Grandpa's Grill, which provides a full breakfast menu Friday-Sunday morning. Wifi and cable reception is good. The park staff are courteous and professional. Access to this park is very easy. I recommend it for either short-term or longer stays. We camped at Hot Springs National Park KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park. We stayed for one night while travelling between Raton, NM and Amarillo, TX. Lots of room to park your rig. The lady who checked us in was very nice and helpful. The only negative, which has been noted by other reviewers, was train noise (but it wasn't bad). There is no cable TV but you can pick up a few Amarillo stations with your antenna. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Corral RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

An older park but pretty well maintained. The owners were very nice and helpful. We arrived in the middle of a tornado warning and they directed us to a basement for safety. They have a BBQ restaurant onsite that serves good food. The campground is near both I-25 and I-80. Wi-Fi and cable are both good. Most sites are pull throughs, which is nice.
