Ivy's Cove RV Retreat, Russellville, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly owner/manager and a no-hassle overnight stay on our way between OK City and Memphis. Partially tree'd and level pull-through sites. Park is well-maintained. Utilities and WIFI were OK, including cable TV channels. Easy on-off I-40 but far enough away to have no highway noise. There seemed to be some seasonal/long-term residents, especially in the rear section of the park, but all RVs were very well maintained. We camped at Ivy's Cove RV Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Oklahoma City East KOA, Choctaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here two nights, to do laundry and catch up on chores. Most sites are shaded, without views. Our site, B05, was wide enough to not feel crowded and long enough to disconnect and still park in front of the 5th wheel. Office staff was friendly and efficient. Maintenance staff were courteous and helpful. Utilities were fine. WIFI was OK for email/web although their credentialing system was unusual, where every phone/laptop/computer requires a separate password for connection. We camped at Oklahoma City East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Texan RV Ranch (formerly Amarillo Ranch RV Park), Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Overnighted here between Santa Fe and OK City. Site was clean and long enough to not disconnect. The Big Texan Steakhouse is operated by the same outfit, and they run a limo with longhorn hood ornament to take RV'ers to/from the restaurant (you saw a hew hundred I-40 billboards advertising this restaurant with "free" 72-oz steak). Very convenient if you want a steak and don't want to disconnect your tow vehicle. The steakhouse is a little touristy but the steak was good. Office staff was friendly and efficient. We were escorted to site. WIFI was OK for email/web. We camped at Big Texan RV Ranch (formerly Amarillo Ranch RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Santa Fe Skies RV Park, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of those parks that doesn't book sties by specific site number - instead by "category" - apparently that's back-in vs. pull-thru and long or not. I called ahead a couple of days and reserved a "large" back-in site which the reservation person described as "63 feet long". When I arrived, I was assigned a site and when I drove to it (tight, winding, bare dirt road) the site was maybe 40 feet long and 12 feet wide between trees and rocks. Back to the office and guess what, there were NO other sites available. I ended up squeezed into their walled and paved patio, next to cocktail tables and fire pit. There were water and power connections, which did work out OK, but I cannot recommend this park based on their faulty reservation capability and crowded sites. That said, the park was clean and reasonably well maintained. Just know that you are taking your chances with your reservation. We camped at Santa Fe Skies RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Views RV Park & Campground, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

First time I've written an all-five-stars review... can't say enough good things about this park. The owners are in their third year running this RV campground (a converted mobile home park) and they are adding frequent new features, but even the basics here are splendid. Long and wide tree'd sites (our site was 100+ feet long) on a south-facing hill with long views back towards Cortez. Everything well-kept and clean. Our original 3-day stay ended up being six days and we were still sad to leave. No cable TV available, but with a couple tries we picked up sufficient OTA channels. No fire rings but ask the owner about his new portable "pop-up pits" (I bought one). The owner is on the site every day and couldn't be more personable and helpful. Don't let their sometimes-difficult Reserve America reservation site discourage you, just call their phone - It's the owner's cell phone and he answered every time I called. We camped at The Views RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Good single-track biking on Phil's World trails (bike rental at Kokopelli Bikes in Cortez, 20 minutes ). Two good Mexican restaurants in Dolores (10 minutes ). Bubba's (10 minutes) in Lewis had good prime rib Friday night. Hike Sand Canyon from the south (modrate 6-8 miles out-and-back) for ancestral Puebloan ruins. Taste at 2 wineries while out that way (at Guy Drew, the owner's wife poured free tastings). Canyons of the Ancients Visitor's Center (5 minutes) has a wealth of information.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is tucked into a red rock canyon above the lodge. Back-in sites are tight withlimited maneuvering room - get a pull-thru if you can. There are tent sites here too. Some trees and shade. Utilities are good - WIFI acceptable for email and Facebook. Office has a limited supply of items - drove to the KOA to buy a replacement water filter. We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Goulding's operates tours into the Navajo park, which can be reserved at the office, with pick-up at the park. The roads through the Navajo park are pretty rough for driving yourself. The diner at the Goulding's Lodge was acceptable, but food was better at The View Hotel restaurant inside the Navajo park. Those are the only dining options we found in Monument Valley. Lodge gift shop was over-priced relative to side-of-the-road stands operated by local Indians.

Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA, Watsonville, California

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $105.00
Overall Rating:

You pay for location here - this is an expensive park. It also has many features and attractions for kids, and more are being constructed, so this is becoming a "destination resort" type of park. Uncrowded when we were there. We had one of the back-in sites with a rear wood deck hanging over the hillside leading away from the park. We camped at Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Monterey aquarium. Santa Cruz pier. Since this park is actually in Watsonville, neither Monterey nor Santa Cruz, for dinner we highly recommend The Fish House & Grill on Main St. in Watsonville - much closer, and still great seafood. But if you want to drive a little further, in Moss Landing you really should go to Phil's Fish Market and Eatery where the seafood is freshest and you can buy more fish to take home.

The Canyon Motel & RV Park, Williams, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

WIFI and Verizon coverage was fine. Utilities were fine too. Convenient to I-40 but no highway noise noticed. Office is well-staffed with at least two friendly ladies always present. Another worker to escort you to your site. They made train reservations for us. We extended our stay 2 days while there, which they were able to accommodate without moving us. Not "in town" but a 5 minute drive or bike ride to Williams. 4 laundry machines which worked well. We camped at The Canyon Motel & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Well-stocked Safeway in Williams. After trying several restaurants, the only one to recommend is the Red Raven - very good food and service. Take the train to the Grand Canyon - the luxury parlor car (if you don't have kids with you) is worth the extra cost. The hotel operates a dog kennel. There is a hiking trail up Bill Williams mountain to the fire-spotter tower on top, or drive the rutted dirt fire road up, and say hi to Fred on duty there, who may invite you up to take in the view.

Barstow / Calico KOA, Yermo, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Busy, as Memorial Day weekend approached. A lot of ATV'ers use this park and head north out of the park directly, into the desert separating this park from Calico mountains and ghost town development. Had to change sites when we decided to add a day after already there. A lot of kids, like most KOAs, but they weren't a problem. Had to climb up on topof RV to trim some branches in second site. Convenient to I15 but road noise wasn't bad. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Wife liked the factory outlet stores on the west side of Barstow. Calico Ghost Town is close and has been developed into a theme park atmosphere now, with lots of gift shops, train ride, mine tour, etc. Stater Bros. grocery store in Barstow is the closest.

Emigrant Lake - The Point RV Park, Ashland, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

32 RV sites with power/water/sewer, almost all back-in but plenty long. Reservations are not accepted within 2 weeks of your stay, but the county park reservation clerk, when called, will let you know if/how many sites are unreserved at the moment, if you are arriving that day. Without a reservation, drive around checking displayed reservation slips at each site to find one not reserved for the duration of your stay. When driving in, continue past the Oak Slope no-hookups campground entrance (on left) to "The Point" campground. Quiet location, with no OTA TV or wifi, but excellent Verizon bandwidth. When we were there, the lake was *very* low (well below the end of the boat launch) but there was still a rowing club practicing at sunrise and sunset every day. We camped at Emigrant Lake - The Point RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Ashland is OK for walking around, with some nice shops. Weisinger Family Winery, south of downtown, has enjoyable wines and a pleasant dog-friendly shaded patio looking to the eastern hills, if you enjoy visiting wine tasting rooms. There are a couple other tasting rooms east of I-5 that were either closed or not dog-friendly. And plenty more further north on I-5.

Guaranty RV Park, Junction City, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Recent previous reviews are accurate. Picnic tables at all sites. Entry signage of highway 99 is poor - it's clearly an RV dealer but no entrance is designated specifically for the RV park. At my back-in site the sewer connection was at rear and water/electricity in middle of paved site, with well cared for grass surrounding the concrete. Water spigot had back-flow preventer installed, with an odd protruding center pin that penetrated into the gasket screen of my pressure regulator, bunging it up. Wifi was very good - video capable - and OTA TV included the 4 major networks. This was the only park near Eugene with last-minute spaces available on the weekend the Ducks played Stanford. Guaranty employs a private security vehicle which made frequent nightly rounds through the park and adjacent dealer/service grounds. We camped at Guaranty RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Red Bluff RV Park, Red Bluff, California

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

A small park, with well-kept grounds and shaded reasonably-spacious pull-thru and some back-in sites. A small swimming pool and clubhouse. and a green space that is good for dogs. Good utilities except wifi was unusable during our stay. This park is a half mile or so off of I-5, so there is no highway noise. An excellent overnight stay, when driving I-5 or on your way to Lassen NP. We camped at Red Bluff RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

On the South Umpqua river, 7 miles south of Roseburg. A few spots back up to the river, others are a mix of back-in and pull-through. Some long-term residents but sites are well-kept. Most have nice shade trees, and spacing was OK. Good utilities including a wide selection of cable TV stations but missing 2 of the 4 national broadcast networks. Wifi was intermittent. Southern Oregon RV Park (Jackson County Park), Central Point, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in a back-in site, J3, at the back of the park, which is quieter and not a problem for us to back our 31ft 5th wheel trailer into. Spots are on a diagonal to the park road, and do not feel too close to neighbors. Some bushes between sites. Rows L and K are closest to I-5 and highway noise. This park is operated by the county park service and is adjacent to several public fishing ponds that are pleasant to walk around. The park is next to county fairgrounds, within walking distance if there is an event happening while you stay. BBQ and Brew event while we were there. Excellent wifi, no cable TV and we could get only a few OTA stations. Clean and well-kept grounds. Quiet at night. About 7 minutes north of Medford, in the town of Central Point. Would stay again.
