Raton KOA, Raton, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed just one night - we were on a mission. Normally stay 3 nights to explore. After talking to the owner during check-in we realized how much we were missing and made a promise to ourselves to return and stay longer. The owner probed our interests and then offered several suggestions for kayaking, hiking and exploring. His advice was truly the most detailed and informative of any camp stop we have made (in two years). The campground is all gravel, and the pull-through spots were extra long and easy in and out. Not the prettiest place we stayed, but provided for all our needs. We will be back. We camped at Raton KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We went to Sugarite State park and hiked - three beautiful trout lakes and lots of hiking trails. Saw fox, turkeys, blue heron and a rare flicker...all in about 3 hours. There is a nearby extinct volcano that can be climbed and you can see 5 states from the top. This is an outdoor place!

Wellington KOA, Wellington, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Nice basic park convenient to I35 with a KOA sign right where you turn in off the main road. Good place for an overnighter. The park was easy to navigate and we pulled right into our site. Not much for shade but we prefer that so that our satellite dish will get reception. There was a nice pool but we did not use it. There was a constant rumbling which we soon discovered were trains that ran behind the park. If you're a very light sleeper, you might want to consider ear plugs. Check in was quick and easy. We camped at Wellington KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a Walmart just beyond the park entrance about 1/4 mile. You would have to drive to it as the road was a two lane highway and no sidewalks.

Indian Creek COE, Monroe City, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park even though it's a ways off the interstate. The sites are nicely spaced and we had no problem backing into our fairly level site. The hiking trails were short but that was okay because there were plenty of roadways to walk along. We did not have satellite nor good phone reception but it turned out to not be too big of a deal. We camped here for 4 nights. We camped at Indian Creek COE in a Motorhome.
