Bear Creek Lake Park, Indian Paintbrush Campground, Lakewood, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, this is a rustic campground in the middle of an urban area with not that much road noise all things considered. Plenty of room between sites but took a little time to get leveled. Lots of nice trails in the park. We camped at Bear Creek Lake Park, Indian Paintbrush Campground in a Motorhome.

Many bike trails in the park and connecting to the park. Some were hard climbs with a lot of road noise but fun just the same.

Overall Rating:

Nice city park. Plenty of shade. Restrooms were clean but a long walk from our site. Campground is about 2 miles from city center. We would stay there again if we were in the city. We camped at Salt Lake City KOA in a Motorhome.

Ambassador RV Resort, Caldwell, Idaho

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice, clean, well designed park. Drives were wider than a two lane highway. Private restrooms with combo locks. Big plus was the bath mats provided. There were usually 3 clean bath mats to use with a hamper to put them in when done. Did not use the pool or spa but they looked popular. Outer dog walk was nice. We camped at Ambassador RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Columbia River RV Park, Portland, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Although this is a clean park, we found it average at best. The nearby road and constant air traffic from the nearby airport made the campground too noisy for us. The restrooms were clean but the showers only had a single curtain for privacy. You had to leave your personal items in the open space. They took the time to tile them and clean them but did not properly design them. There were too many full time residents to feel light you were camping. Last, we arrived at 12:50 hoping to check in 10 minutes early. The office is closed from 12:00 to 1:00 for the staff to go to lunch. At 1:05 the two staff employees returned from lunch. Why not stagger lunches and stay open? We won't be back. We camped at Columbia River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We found the Portland area very dirty. Many, many homeless camps abandoned with all the garbage left behind. Many underpasses, whether bike trails or streets, were occupied with camps of homeless. There were a lot of old cars and broken down RV's used as "homes" along the streets. There seemed like there were no attempts to clean up. Our Uber driver concurred with our observation.

Lake Pleasant RV Park, Bothell, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We found this campground excellent. As others have said, it is privately tucked into the Seattle Suburbs. Restrooms were clean and private. The staff was outstanding. Their office closes at 4:30 but the lady at the desk waited until 4:40 for us because we were hitting some traffic. The trails around the park were great. The ferns and evergreens on the trails give you an appreciation of West Washington's lush beauty. Although the sites were "city close", there were hedges between most sites providing some privacy. We camped at Lake Pleasant RV Park in a Motorhome.

Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA , Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Good enough campground for a night or two when traveling through Idaho. The owner was very nice. Coffee and waffles in the morning were a plus. On the downside, even though clean the campground shows age. The owner has only owned it a year. He is great in the customer service department but has a lot of maintenance work ahead of him. I hope he gets it in shape. Though friendly, the town of Arco has very little going for it. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Great campground. Very clean. Well run. Loved the free coffee in the morning and the ski trails were great for both dog walks and bike rides. Very close to the national park entrance and an easy walk to town. Hope to return soon. We camped at Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park & Cabins in a Motorhome.

Medora Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Not a good campground. We asked for a private site and was given what they thought was one. We were at the end of a row away from most campers but adjacent to mobile homes. There was rain and the only access was through the driver's side door of our motorhome. Nothing but mud on the passenger's side (the so called private side). Could not reach the sewer line. It was towards the front of our vehicle. We were allowed to move to a drier more private site with no sewer but was not offered a discount for no FHU. Showers and baths were dated and not clean. Showers has a sign stating non campers need to pay $5 for a shower. Why are non campers coming for a shower? The pleasant part of the stay was the town of Medora, the national park, and though a little muddy, the bike trails. We camped at Medora Campground in a Motorhome.

Beaver Lake Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site 62 after asking for a private spot. It was about as private you could get in this campground but an adjacent road was noisy and dusty. Owners were great. Did not use their restrooms a lot because it was a climb up the hill to get there. Got to expect hills when in the Black Hills. If you want fast WIFI, get up early in the morning before the traffic jams. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Custer state park and the Needle Loop drive were much better than going to Mount Rushmore. Can't get an RV through the tunnels on Needle Loop though. George Mickleson bike trail goes through Custer. It's very nice.

Branched Oak State Recreation Area, Raymond, Nebraska

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park with excellent sites. Rest rooms were average for a state ran facility. I can see where the 75 cent shower saves water but it would have been good to know before I walked a long ways to get there. We were in site 109 and was very private. Many had better lake views but less privacy. We would stay there again when traveling across Nebraska. We camped at Branched Oak State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Forrest W. "Bo" Wood COE, Sullivan, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent COE campground. $9 per night with our national park senior pass. Stayed at site 126 (walk-in) which was shady and level. All the lake side sites were great but taken. If you get a chance to get 133 walk-in, jump on it, it's a great site with nearly 180 degree view of water. Nice clean campground. Staff was great. We will return. We camped at Forrest W. Catalina State Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great state park campground. The park was full but did not feel like it due to the spacious sites. Great place for bicycling whether it's mountain biking the trails or road biking Tucson's loop around the city. Both are easy and safe access. We lost one night due the road into the park being flooded out. It appears the road is now lower than the wash basin which indicates to me it will happen again and again. Something to be aware of since you can get caught inside. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Shopping close by. Try Parish restaurant. It's a ways down Oracle (5-6mi) but worth the drive. Can't say enough about the great cycling here. I could have gone further with the mountain bike if I had the proper shoes/boots to cross the water traveling down the washes.

Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped here for a night while traveling through New Mexico. Nice clean park a little too close to town and interstate. Private, clean restrooms and a friendly staff. Hot tub looked inviting but we did not bring our swim suits. They give you a key card for the restrooms. Mine expired in the morning and was let in by a nice lady. You might want to ask their policy when checking in to avoid a lock out. We camped at Hacienda RV Resort in a Motorhome.
