Dakotah Meadows RV Park, Prior Lake, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Cement roads, cement sites, picnic tables and small trees. Everything a senior traveler wants. Gasoline on premises is discounted. Car wash for your tow and RV! Staff very helpful and nice. We had a weekly rate of $245 so I estimated the daily/military rate. We arrived after hours and our site was posted on office door. Tried to use the shower the next morning, but a key access required for laundry and showers. Had to wait for office to open. Each key required a deposit, showers were great! We don't gamble, but the park has a shuttle that picks you up at your site and takes you to the casino. We camped at Dakotah Meadows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Wagner Park, Barnesville, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

No frills but grounds are well maintained. Had to pay for showers. Ground is a little uneven with grass. Everyone had the same experience entering - no directions on what to do. You must have reservations, so you are guaranteed a spot. But, what you don't know is, what spot? You circle the area and choose your spot and take it, but before you catch on to the system, you are driving around a few times. We camped at Wagner Park in a Motorhome.

No stores close by for groceries, but very easy to drive to using Interstate 94. Downtown has a great gym at State College available to visitors, $6 person; Olympic pool, full gym. State Capital is beautiful, Art Deco, free guided tour Museum is one of the nicest I have visited; huge dinosaurs, high-tech exhibits, free.

Mercer / Grove City KOA, Mercer, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful, it was June so all the many lilies were in bloom. Level sites, full hook-up, fire pit, patio table. Showers were good, laundry room in office so it remains clean and well attended. Staff nice, trash pickup throughout the day. Majority of sites were for permanents, but very well maintained. Some upgraded sites had patio tables with umbrellas, gliders and decks. The cabins had hanging baskets and the lawn was kept cut; tall trees, pool, shade and space between the sites. I think this is one of the nicer KOAs. One grocery store in town but it is a good one. We are traveling for 4 months and stay in all types of campsites. I am not sure why anyone could complain about this site. We camped at Mercer / Grove City KOA in a Motorhome.

Sunset RV Park, Oswego, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The owner and staff were helpful, nice and interested if your stay was okay. The campground is small, neat, and accommodating. It has cabins as well as full hook up RV sites. We were in site #5 and it was literally 60' from Lake Ontario. Just had to cross a small road to get to the Lake. We were in a motorhome and pulled, so we sat up front and looked out our huge windshield to enjoy all the sunsets and the ever-changing weather on the Lake.

The sites are gravel, but the park is grass, so while it had rained a lot, it has large puddles (to be expected). But the grass was so thick it really never became a problem. The bathroom had two very large, clean showers and two stalls. I think this may be a hidden gem only known to the locals who keep their RV here for the summer. All the "residents" kept their RVs clean and well maintained. Don't know if that is a condition to stay, but there wasn't one which was dirty.

The Wi-Fi was weak and the satellite didn't get many channels even with a scrambler that the office let you use at no charge. We camped at Sunset RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is an ice cream shop located right where you park and a seafood restaurant. Visit the Safe Haven Museum. During WWII it was the only place in US used to help Jews escaping Europe. The history is fascinating. Lighthouse and Tug visit.

Saratoga Escape Lodges & RV Resort, Greenfield Center, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

PROS: Nature, being from FL the tall pines and hemlocks were beautiful CONS: Office: Called in reservation, charged the our entire stay, when we arrived there was no record and staff asked how we wanted to pay, I had to tell her the amount. Needed WiFi. She said it was not working. During reservation ask for full hookup, there is NO sewer at any site. Store: dark, low stock. The ice was kept in an old ice cream freezer. The ice was melting in the cooler. When I pried one loose, it was a total block of ice. Site: We had our choice, we choose the best. All, including our own were not level. (Would comment on all the mud, but no one can help if it rains a lot, but it was muddy). Showers: Ugh, Three stalls. One had a hole poked through so I thought I wonder if someone can view me. Walked around the back and the outside wall was missing from 4 feet down, exposing the 3 fiberglass showers stalls. Probably to fix a problem, but it was evident the backs had been exposed for awhile. Washers: Room dirty, had 4 washers, 4 dryers and only 1 each worked. Dump Station: OK but on a semi circle so positioning is awkward. Comment: I am not kidding when I say the photographer who took pictures of the place needs to get a bonus! All those items exist but they must have staged and scrubbed everything for the shoot. They had to be taken when it opened. I believe this may have been a good place when it opened, but there has been no upkeep, it is falling apart. Recommend: No, but if you like roughing it in a tent it is the place for you. There is a sister site at Lake George, NY, I do not know if is like this place. I will not return. I do not see myself as a complainer; camping is camping, but the ads and staff are not to be believed. It is not a Resort as the ad states, but we don't look for resorts, but we do look for a campsite that are trying to get it right; this one fails. We camped at Saratoga Escape Lodges & RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Saratoga Springs, NY is a happening place. The scenery is beautiful, the springs are interesting and the city is has many good restaurants and shops. The city has the vibe of a young place. We are in our 50's and loved the places we ate and visited. We camped in an 30' Motorhome pulling a car.

Northampton / Springfield KOA, Westhampton, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Pros: Staff friendly, supportive. Sites level, gravel, full hookups, Wi-Fi, cable TV. Delivered newspaper one day, firewood delivered if requested. Park was much larger than first appears. The further you explore the back sites are wooded, private but used by people living there permanently or use as summer home. Many activities for adults and children. Cons: The bathrooms were dated. Typically we shower at sites because our RV bath is small and of course more hot water; this time we always used our shower. We stayed a week so this was inconvenient for us, but not a deal breaker. The park and surrounding views were pleasant and the nights were heavy with smoke from all the campfires. We had to keep our windows closed, but that is what camping is, campfires! We would come again. We camped at Northampton / Springfield KOA in a Motorhome.

The area is beautiful. We happened to be there when the town was having a festival and a local pig roast at a great local market. Bike trails great for biking and walking. Outlook Market is a must and Tandems Bagel shop great. We would return.
