Charleston KOA, Ladson, South Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA ranks as one of the worse we've been to. Electric, cable and wifi unreliable. Electric might even be reverse polarity. We shouldn't have taken a risk after our surge protector read reverse polarity, but campground insisted there was no problem. Grass never cut, tall and weeds. They even apologized when we checked in, but now in 6 days no one came to trim the tall weeds or cut grass. Planes flying low overhead and trains blowing whistles. No fire ring, old dirty picnic table. Regarding electric, we'd come back from being gone touring Charleston all day and know electric has been out. No idea how long, but our portable ice maker is off, even though we left it on. Attached to a mobile home park with old dilapidated trailers. They must rent to contractors because work trucks parked around the park. Many of the trailers in the transient sites also old and dirty, giving the impression they've been here a while. We have not sat outside even one evening, due to tall grass, lousy picnic table and overall mood of the campground and planes flying overhead. We can not recommend this campground and suggest you find another. Charleston is fantastic, just find a better campground, if you can. We camped at Charleston KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Log Cabin Resort & Campground, Curtis, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

When we camp, we like having large sites, this campground delivered. The delux sites are large, wooded, concrete pad, pull through, full hookup. The firepit was not on top of you, so you didn't feel like you were going to burn down your trailer, if you got a nice fire going. Cable worked fine, but the lake is much better for viewing pleasure, or sitting by the fire. Wifi also good, but not great, so if outdoors entertainment is not your thing, or you have to work or something, wifi isn't going to thrill you. You're in the woods, in northern MI, enjoy the adventure! Cute town of Curtis not too far, which we didn't get a chance to explore. We chose this location, because we wanted to explore the UP, from Painted Rocks, Lake Superior, to Mackinac Island. All within an hour, or so and the drives to both locations, are beautiful. If you're just looking for a place to relax, this campground has a beautiful lake. I didn't get a chance to use the restrooms, so can't comment on that. Also, never saw the owners. We arrived, self check in, honor system wood pile and were never bothered with countless rules, or nosey owners. Love this campground and will return when we visit the UP again. We camped at Log Cabin Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Painted Rocks National Lakeshore, fishing, swimming, scenic drives. Mackinac Island and all of the eastern peninsula of Upper Michigan are within reach, with a scenic drive to destinations, that knocks your socks off. Love the UP!
