Anvil Campground, Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

Whatever shortcomings this campground has are negated by the friendly, positive attitude and professionalism of the owners and the entire staff, including the cleaning team. Also, this is the only campground we have ever visited that has a detailed plan for campers that arrive without a car to use for transportation out of the park. There is a dedicated stop on the Williamsburg bus line and the owners provide detailed information and good advice on the best way to get around and things to do/places to go, even if you do have a car. Also, they pointed out a paved bike/walking path nearby, that led to a local park (Waller Mills Park) located on a reservoir. At the park, you can rent boats, fish or just enjoy the serenity while picnicking at one of the many picnic areas. The restrooms and showers are well designed and are kept extremely clean at all times. The individual sites are small and close together but well maintained, with ample gravel to keep things clean. Some of the sites have concrete patios, upgraded tables with umbrellas, and cooking grills, while they are upgrading others. The interior road is paved and easy to navigate but the paving is a bit rough in spots. Wi-fi and cable TV is excellent, as is the Verizon signal. Water supply seemed fresh and the AC supply was without interruption. There is noise from the nearby road and train line. At night, road noise mostly goes away, but there is an occasional passing train. We did not find the train traffic objectionable and enjoyed watching the few Amtrak trains during the day. Free fresh brewed coffee and a selection of donuts are provided daily when the office opens at 9:00 AM. We enjoyed our stay and took advantage of the bus to Williamsburg and will return again in the future. We camped at Anvil Campground in a Motorhome.

The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone, Verona, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

It had been raining all day when we arrived and our site was a muddy mess. We asked to be relocated but the only site they offered was not to our liking (we wanted to be near the lake), so we opted to stay since the weather forecast indicated good weather for our week-long stay. We parked our RV at the extreme corner of the asphalt pad and that gave us some asphalt to step out onto, rather than the mud (see photo). The next morning we cleaned the mud from where it had washed down onto the asphalt pad and, once the asphalt and dried, put down a carpet to cover the dirt. This worked out fine since it (thankfully) did not rain again during our visit. The site itself was partially shady, very large and quite level, with good water, sewer, cable and wi-fi and well placed near the boating pond. Ours was the only site that we could find that seemed to not have any gravel or stone in the patio area. We would not have had the mud issue with any other site at the facility. Overall the park was very nice and well maintained, and we will stay there again, just not at site #128. The restrooms / shower buildings were well designed, very clean and well maintained. The pool is clean and the playground is well designed. Good interior roads for biking or walking, wide enough to easily navigate with and park an RV. There is a very convenient shuttle that runs to the casino 24 hours every day. Even if gambling is not your forte, there are a couple of good restaurants and an excellent buffet in the casino and the prices seemed reasonable. We camped at The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone in a Motorhome.

Tompkins COE, Tioga, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was spacious, paved and mostly level, with ample crushed stone for the picnic table / patio area and a large space for a tent. Large trees provided good shade in the early morning and late afternoon. Water and electric supply was good, but there is no cable, WI-Fi or TV reception and the Verizon cell service was almost non-existent. We were able to bike over to the beach area and use our phones there to check e-mail so we were not completely isolated. Actually, it was relaxing to not have gadget distraction during our stay. We spent our three days reading and just enjoying sitting at the lakeside and winding down. This is a very pretty / scenic area so the drive in and out was enjoyable. Lots of fish jumping in the lake, so it looked to be a good fishing spot. Boat docks and launch ramp looked to be in good shape, so it's a good spot for a boat, canoe or other watercraft. The beach is small and basic, and life jackets are loaned for free. We did not have a sewer hookup at our site but the dump station was convenient and clean. It was very quiet at night, just the place for a nice, relaxing get-away. We camped at Tompkins COE in a Motorhome.

Swan Bay Resort, Alexandria Bay, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $114.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for one week last year and again this year. The second pool and landscaping has now been completed and it is very nice. The paved sites are well spaced and the pads are large, and level, but there is very little shade or privacy. Pavers extend beyond the pad for the picnic table so the sites stay very clean, even in the heaviest rain. Many sites have a decent view of the river. Interior roads are easy to navigate, and provide ample space for maneuvering your rig into your site. It is far busier than last year, and a bit of noise emanates from the bar, which seems to be quite popular with boaters. There is no cable, and wi-fi is not reliable. You can pay extra to upgrade to a streaming service but we did not go for that as the price was prohibitive. We also had to pay for our electric usage, which is a bit silly, since the rate is already very high. I've included the cost of electric in the rate stated above. Firewood is $8 for a small bundle so stop along the way and buy some wood to bring. Restrooms are fairly clean, but not "deep clean". There are two toilet / shower/ laundry buildings. Each building had two toilets and only one shower in each men's and women's room (that's not enough). They are expanding the resort but the construction is away from the main campus so it is not objectionable. Shuttle service into Alexandria Bay is available, which runs several times daily. The one thing that we like best is the location - right on the St. Lawrence River with a lovely view of ocean going ships passing up and down the channel. We camped at Swan Bay Resort in a Motorhome.

Country Acres Campground, Gordonville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We agree with everything stated in the previous review, which gives a very good overview of the park and the amenities. Overall, a very clean park with lots of well maintained landscaping - very well done. We arrived in the recent 95 degree heat wave and were placed in a site in the blazing sun. We were able to move to a shady site after the first day and that was a big relief. The campground is located in a very touristy area, so there is lots to do and see. Unfortunately, it is landlocked if you don't have a car, which we do not. Once checked in, even our bikes were useless, as the traffic on Rt 30 is not safe for biking, and there are no sidewalks for walking anywhere. They advertise a free area tour, but you have to drive to their "sister location" 3-4 miles away to catch the tour bus. Their suggestion, "call an Uber". Having said that, we enjoyed just relaxing and hanging around the facility for the days we were here. We camped at Country Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is s good stop-over park for a day or two. Easy access, just off of I-95. Nice level concrete pad with picnic table and full hook-ups. Our site had two clump white paper birch trees that provided a bit of privacy and some good aesthetics and some shade. There were several drive through sites for transients, but it looked like the park was mostly populated by full time live-ins. Pool was pool and a small hot tub but we did not use either. Wi-Fi was spotty and not secure, so we did not use it for anything but checking email and reading the news. We did not try the cable tv. Restrooms were clean but could use some TLC for leaky faucets in the sinks, but everything worked OK. There were some fairly major potholes in the driveway but we were able to avoid them. Check-in was friendly and helpful, as was the phone-in reservation process. We would stay again in a pinch but will not seek it out in the future. We camped at The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads in a Motorhome.

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here previously and for two weeks this year. We plan to return in the future, as it continues to be our "happy place". Lots of beautiful landscaping at most sites and and some owners have even upgraded site surfaces to pavers, so everything is clean and attractive. There is ample spacing and adequate privacy for most sites in an environment they call "paradise". An assortment of mature trees everywhere creates lots of good shade. The only downside we can express is the use of power leaf blowers. There are 400 sites here and just about everyone has leaf blowers and they use them. The staff also use them regularly, so there is almost always an assortment of blower activity, mostly in the morning. That aside, we have never found a facility that can compare with this one. Beautiful pool with a good snack shack, great attitude by the staff, very level and clean sites, pristine tennis and pickle ball courts and an assortment of other weekly activities. Also, the convenient location is close to shopping, restaurants, a beautiful beach and access to safe bike trails all around the island. The people here, including lot owners, are very friendly and welcoming, so it is hard to walk around the facility without engaging in a lively conversation. Excellent TV cable service, and they are completely rebuilding the Wi-Fi system. We camped at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort in a Motorhome.

Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort, Hardeeville, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

Our lakeside site offered great, relaxing evenings by the water to enjoy gorgeous sunsets and an occasional passing (swimming) alligator. Wi-Fi was strong, as was the Verizon signal. There was a good selection of channel choices on the provided cable connection. Concrete pads and picnic tables and full hook-ups were all in excellent shape. Some shade in the afternoon and evening was provide by mature trees along the waterline. Restrooms were clean and functional and the park was well maintained. The pool looked modern and clean but we did not try it out. There is access to the hiking and biking trail that leads to the Lake Jasper State Park, a great place for a picnic or just a walk around the lake. The park is close to Savannah and Hilton Head Island, and just off Interstate 95 for a very convenient stop over. There is no traffic noise, just an occasional train passing in the far distance. Walk or ride the trail over to Lake Jasper State Park. It is about a three mile round trip on an easy, flat surface, and provides a large variety of natural plants, especially beautiful water lilies. Alligators can be spotted swimming by on occasion, and lots of turtles and a few umping fish. There is a nice picnic area at the park right beside a peaceful lily pond. We camped at Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort in a Motorhome.

North Myrtle Beach RV Resort and Dry Dock Marina, Little River, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

This is a new campground and part of a very active marina right on the Intercoastal Waterway, so there is a lot of boating activity to watch. Overall, the park is well thought out and extremely clean. There are good playgrounds and a wonderful pool for all ages. The sites are decently spaced, with excellent hook up designs. All pads are spacious and level, with absolutely no mud or gravel anywhere. As the trees and landscaping has been recently planted, there is minimal shade or privacy screening. The camp/marina store is well stocked and organized. The restrooms and showers are the best we have experienced at any facility we have visited. We did not realize it right away, but when in the restrooms and shower rooms, you can hear birds singing/chirping softly in the background. We are sure this is a piped in soundtrack as we heard it in multiple locations in the park; a nice, unexpected touch. There are multiple chairs and swings to enjoy, and most are positioned so that the Waterway activity can be enjoyed. We have rated this facility a well deserved 10. We camped at North Myrtle Beach RV Resort and Dry Dock Marina in a Motorhome.

Pocahontas State Park, Chesterfield, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

There are two ways to secure a campsite. Reserve a "Site Specific" site on line, or just show up and drive around until you see one you like. Either way, most sites are large and private with good water and electric service. Cable TV and WI-Fi are not available. Verizon cell signal strength was good. We reserved site #71, which was level, very large and quite private. There was virtually no noise at night and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. There are many hiking and biking trails throughout the park, with a good selection of easy, moderate or difficult trails, including mountain bike and equestrian trails. Paddle boats, canoes and other non-power watercraft can be rented. Staff members were pleasant and helpful and check-in was easy and quick. We have designated this park as a favorite and we plan to return in the future when we can stay longer. We camped at Pocahontas State Park in a Motorhome.

Spring Lake RV Resort, Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Individual sites are very clean and all furniture and equipment is well maintained. Each site has a double swing and the tabes and chairs are "cafe" style. Our site was waterfront, but most sites have a good view of the lake in the center of the campground. Firewood is free and fire rings were in good condition. Restrooms were a bit small, but very clean and well appointed. Owner was very friendly and personable. We parked on level, clean crushed stone but patio area was concrete. All utility connections were in good condition. Sites are close together but the park was quiet. This was our first visit here and we would highly recommend Spring Lake. Tips for other Campers:

Bella Terra Casino is a few miles away. It is a lovely facility and they will pick you up at the campground. They have a buffet day and some upscale shops. The casino was closed for updates the day we visited so we did not get a chance to see it. However, judging by the rest of the facility, we assume it is nice as well.

Seven Points Campground COE, Hermitage, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are very large, level and semi-private in a forest setting. There is some aircraft traffic from the nearby airport but it was not objectionable. We had a spectacular view of the lake and enjoyed the evening sunsets over the water. Great fire rings with cooking grates in good condition. We were visited one morning by 7 deer that grazed at our campsite while we were having our morning coffee. Overall, the site was small size gravel but fairly clean. Some mud had washed down into the parking area due to recent heavy rains but that did not cause a problem. There is no wi-fi or cable but we had good Verizon cell coverage and local TV reception was strong. This campground provided more of a classic camping experience due to the woodland setting and lack of some amenities such as wi-fi and sewer connections. Good dump station at the park entrance/exit. We added this park to our favorites listing. We camped at Seven Points Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Two Rivers Landing RV Resort, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

Cleanliness is outstanding at this park. Road in park is paved and the sites are full concrete, and they keep it all very clean all the time. Restrooms / showers were spotlessly clean. Coffee and donuts served every morning from 8-10am. Our site was a pull-in within 10 feet of the river. All sites have a river view. We watched a herd of deer across the river each evening and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets on the water. Sites are close together but there are hedges that differentiate and provide some privacy. Lots of medium sized trees provide a park-like setting. Local shopping is within walking distance. Local attractions are nearby. Very close to the Smoky Mountains Park. Th\is campground is a gem - we will return. We camped at Two Rivers Landing RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Winton Woods Campground, Cincinnati, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This campground offers a full range of campsite choices. The front area consists of pull-through and back in sites, is newer and has full hook=ups and clean, level concrete pads and patio areas. The area has a few trees but is mostly open and sunny. Remainder of the sites are gravel and grass and appear to be mostly spacious and level, some with with views of the water. Most, if not all, have electric only and plenty shade. A single dump station is at the entrance gate. There are great walking / biking trails throughout the park and campsite areas. Overall, a quiet, lovely setting, considering it is within a congested area. Upon arrival, we were in site 14F, a very nice concrete back-in site. We developed a mechanical problem which required us to have to extend our stay for a few days. Although the park was full, the staff worked to find a suitable electric only site (#3). Initial nightly rate was $70 for site 14F, but the fee dropped to $35 when we moved to site #3. Ohio residents, which we are not, get a huge discount. We camped at Winton Woods Campground in a Motorhome.
