Bulow RV Resort, Flagler Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Bulow RV Resort was a bit of a letdown, especially since it is an ENCORE Resort. We purchased the Trails Pass as part of the Basic Thousand Trails Membership. We found that it might afford us an opportunity to stay at a number of ENCORE resorts, which we were told exhibited a high standard. But, like all RV parks, some are stellar and others are old and tired. I am sincerely glad we did not pay extra for our stay at Bulow RV Resort, and it was part of our Basic TT membership. On the positive side, Bulow RV Resort has recently upgraded many of the showers and bathrooms throughout the park. Those facilities are kept very clean by a dedicated group of housekeeping staff. The staff in the office are very friendly and helpful, at least we felt welcome. The laundry room was very clean and all the machines worked very well. Maybe the recent rains have made the side roads so bumpy, but many have large indentations with standing water, making it difficult to drive through without upsetting everything in one's trailer. A number of new tiny homes have been installed, which look great, as opposed to the "old style" resort cabins that are tired and unsightly. Many of the snowbirds and transients are situated along the Main Trail Road. We were more than shocked to take a walk along Woodpecker Lane and Snowbird Drive. Many of the permanent residents are along these roads, and the radical difference between the ramshackle and poorly maintained RVs and the rest of the camp is obvious. I am sure this sector is an embarrassment to the Camp Director, since many of the tenants look as rough as their worn out, broken down rigs. Our site, # 216, was difficult to get into and hookup because of poor design. Water, sewer, and electricity amenities worked well, but they were situated in a manner to make their connection somewhat challenging. We would only stay again as a "last resort." At least we were close enough to enjoy a day trip St. Augustine. Sufficient for overnight stay or a few nights on your way to somewhere else, but NOT a RESORT. We camped at Bulow RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Conroe RV & Camping Resort / Thousand Trails, Willis, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Again I find myself at a TT campground where no HK supervisor seems to realize that the cleanliness of the laundry room is critical for customers to perceive the camp well. The facilities and staff were otherwise friendly and welcoming. We liked Lake Conroe and will likely return. Sites are well-developed and roomy. It is one of the best maintained TT camp we have been to. We camped at Lake Conroe RV & Camping Resort / Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Colorado River RV Campground, Columbus, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Staff were excellent and enthused. Grounds were superb. bathrooms and showers were new and therefore very clean! Sites were well situated and comfortable. The campground was quiet at night and one could see the stars for light years. Laundry needs some upkeep. I despise coming into laundries where the lids have not been cleaned for months. When looking down move the tub and you will notice lots of guck on the rim. Clean washer are a critical success factor for customer satisfaction. However, I have been to two Thousand Trails since purchasing my passes a month ago and they both had laundries that were less than satisfactory. We do our wash so the clothes are clean. The lids need to reflect the attention to detail necessary for customers to feel their clothes are clean. We camped at Colorado River RV Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Medina Lake RV Campground - Thousand Trails , Lakehills, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

The park seems to show overall lack of upkeep, especially with so many sites sporting the red box - indicating not in use. The grounds look tired, unkept (lots of debris in the underbrush), and old. The grounds need to be rejuvenated so that it looks much better. Many of the sites in Section R and F had gravel and debris strewn across the sites, making selection of the site a challenge without the potential camper first clearing it. The activity center in general is well kept, although we encountered a pipe smoker in the games room, which limited our use. I am certain when summer comes along the activity center is very active. Also the games room was kind of creepy with the shrine that is in the TV portion of the room. An RV park is not the place for such a shrine. The wifi worked exceptionally well, but I would prefer 4G or 5G throughout the RV park, if you could afford this infrastructure. The biggest let down was the laundry room. We were forced to use it because we did not wish to drive into Bandera or SA. It is not clean, nor is it well maintained. You need a crew to go through the washing machines, move around the tubs, get the guck off the tubs and clean the lids - it was revolting. This did not reflect well upon your maintenance. When using the laundry room I noticed that the maintenance of machines is outsourced, which likely means that the outsourcing firm is responsible for cleanliness. They are not doing the job, so somebody else should. We camped at Medina Lake RV Campground - Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Camp Hither Hills, Ottawa, Ontario

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are well laid out. It is easily accessible to Ottawa, if you leave after 10:00am and return by 3:00pm or 8:00pm. Rush hour on Bank St. is a killer either way. The host/owners are courteous and very helpful. Stayed for 2 weeks while my wife visited her mother in Gatineau, QC, on the other side of the Ottawa River. The camp electricity posts have been updated recently and new patios and painted picnic tables have been put in on many sites. However, if you are a walker, like me, the closest spot for a coffee, bottle of wine and groceries is 2 mi. each way along Bank St. (which at this stage is a major highway with a high volume of heavy truck traffic). Many long-term campers, but still a very wide selection of overnight or weekly campsites. The wi-fi can be excellent, or if others are on it, average. Water comes from the well, but we were impressed with the water. Mosquitoes were only bad on a few days/nights. The camp is very quiet at night, but you might occasionally hear the heavy trucks at the nearby quarry with their back up beepers around 4:30am-6:00am in the morning, but the quarry appears to be a couple miles away. On many mornings these sounds seem to be muted. Well worth staying. I only wish they were about US$7 less a day, thus making it less expensive for a longer term stay. Nonetheless, the cost of living in Canada is much higher than the USA. We camped at Camp Hither Hills in a Travel Trailer.

Lions Club Park, Merickville, Ontario

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The camp hosts are exceptionally hospitable. I do not know why this campground doesn't receive more and better reviews. It is very clean, with bins for garbage and recyclables. The best sites are halfway through the park or at the runaround loop. Although a narrow campground on the banks of an historic locks system, the road leads to a turnaround that is quite roomy to maneuver. The sites lack sewer because it is so close to the locks, but a sewer dump station is situated right outside the gates for easy access to the villages sewer system. All folks we met were very friendly and in the age group of right before retiring or retired. Only a few seasonal set ups. Very quiet in the evenings. We stayed for three nights, with very convenient access to this picture postcard perfect village of shops, art galleries, glass blowing facilities, and trendy restaurants. Ice cream can be expensive for a cone (GRIN) in the village. I highly recommend the Village Bean as the local coffee shop. If you go early in the morning, say 5:30am or 6:00am (and I am a sunrise kind of person), then you will meet and be able to listen to the senior village residents talk about the church event from the previous evening or the local Legion's dinner from last night. The qwerky residents were brought up and lived here long before it became expensive and trendy and come for their morning breakfast and coffees. We camped at Lions Club Park in a Travel Trailer.

Creekside Mountain RV Park, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was very clean and well-kept, but without amenities such as a shower/bathroom or laundry facilities. Fellow campers were friendly, and we felt safe in the campground. Check ahead of time for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally! The noise from the highway was deafening, although we cannot fault the camp owner for events outside of his/her control. We were traveling across the country on our way to Quebec, where my wife's family lives. When we made the reservations, we had no idea that this area would be deluged with bikers and the disruptive sounds of very loud motorcycles. If we had not already paid our site fees, we would have canceled and moved on. We camped at Creekside Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Pony Express RV Resort, North Salt Lake, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

Very expensive cost/night vs. value. We stayed here because we enjoyed this resorts sister campground in Moab, UT. Although it appeared well laid out, half the roads were dead-ended, which meant one could not easily get to the parking space beside the site after disconnecting the trailer. The sites are quite close to each other, and we needed to park beside our trailer. On our first night the sewer fragrance made sleep quite difficult. We were in between two storm sewer grates. Once we moved, we found out on the subsequent nights that it was not the grates, but a sewer sanitation plant nearby. Mosquitoes were hell at night, since this area was once swampland.. The traffic from the I-215 was loud in the morning and evening, but the killer was the highway construction going on at the nearby interchange as well as I-215. The work went on ALL night. Apparently, because of the heat and the deadline, the work often goes until 3:00am or 5:00am. This is not, of course, the fault of the owners; but made for a less than satisfactory sleep. We did ask for an additional discount to compensate for this, and received it. Laundry was one of the cleanest we have used. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Would be a very good place if the price was at least $15 less per night and construction was not taking place on the Interstate beside it. We camped at Pony Express RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Rangeland Court and RV Park, Moorcroft, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

5 sites, in town, are next to the motel also owned by the proprietors. The owners are great and welcoming folks. The sites are flat, very clean, and spacious enough. The motel itself is very well kept and the grounds are inviting. The only drawback was the traffic on the main street beside the location. We did eventually get a good nights sleep, but the traffic noise form trucks and loud cars occasionally were noticeable. Impossible for the owners to change this. We camped at Rangeland Court and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Hitch-N-Post RV Park, Kanab, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The kamp hosts were very welcoming folks. They had recently gone through a terrible flooding of the site form a major storm, but were bringing the site back to a level of acceptance. I wish they could make it a non-smoking RV camp, but even they smoke. All hookups worked and were in good shape, but getting into and out of the camp required hurtling one's trailer over a formidable hump. The camp is right downtown, which means lots of noise from the McDonald's across the street, along with another fast food join. The traffic on the main street of Kanab can be noisy, especially late at night when the "cool kids" race their motorcycles or fast cars. We were awaken on a SAT morning to the two overnight campers beside us breaking camp between 5:30am and 6:00am, a bit early and definitely outside of the Quiet Time supposed imposed upon the camp. However, this was out of the control of the hosts. We just found the place was in the midst of too much small town noise. We camped at Hitch-N-Post RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cherokee Lakes Campground, O'fallon, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This appears to strictly be a family-oriented campground. The host that greeted us was very friendly, along with her husband. However, she was a heavy smoker. You could smell smokers all over this camp. We were situated in a site right across form the picnic pavilion. Regretfully, an extended family of stereotypical hillbillies had taken over the pavilion and were loud and playing loud music. Bathrooms were primitive and could really use a facelift. However, they were relatively clean for the shape they were in. Most folks here appeared to be camped for most of the summer. Lots of kids. We will be glad to leave and not come back again. Picked this place out based upon reviews; but would not stay here again. We camped at Cherokee Lakes Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Horseshoe Bend RV Campground and Boat Ramp, Leavenworth, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Grounds were meticulously manicured...you could have played golf on the grass. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful, although the night we arrived the host forgot to tell me the WiFi password, so I had to go around knocking on RV doors. Road to it was a bit rough to navigate (very steep), but many 40+ footer RVs seemed to make it down the hills easily. Laundromat was immaculate! Most folks here seemed to be semi-permanent and boaters, since the campground had very easy access to the Ohio River. WiFi was useless. Also, our Verizon hotspot would not work because of the cliffs along the river, so we could not get any work done online. My phone would not even pick up a signal for me to dial out. If you have AT&T or another carrier other than Verizon, Internet access form your hotspot should be fine. However Verizon was useless. We camped at Horseshoe Bend RV Campground and Boat Ramp in a Travel Trailer.
