Myrtle Beach State Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Our space was extremely shady and private. Couldn't use the WiFi. T-Mobile had two bars and AT&T was about one bar. Internet was hit and or miss. Must visit the Nature Center. My husband used the bathhouse for his showers but since building was not air conditioned and it was in the 90s and extremely humid, he said it was very uncomfortable and he immediately got sweaty all over again. We noticed very large spiders that had spun their webs overnight between truck and trailer. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fairly close to beach but a bit of a walk so we drove over as they had many parking spots. We also saw two bathhouses in the parking areas. There is a nice camp store near the pier. Pier was closed for renovations when we were there.

Fayetteville RV Resort (formerly Fayetteville / Wade KOA), Wade, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Only stayed here two nights but loved this park. Nice spacing between sites. A lot of sites shaded. Beautiful mature trees everywhere. Landscaping is impeccable. Everything is neat as a pin. Great location right off 95. Pool is great. Lots of cabins of various sizes. We camped at Fayetteville RV Resort (formerly Fayetteville / Wade KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Chippokes Plantation State Park, Surry, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

There are two loops A and B. Make sure you reserve loop B. Loop A has smaller, unlevel dirt spaces for smaller trailers. Loop B has super spacious sites with asphalt pads. Our site number 14 was huge. Next to each site is a patio with pea gravel, picnic table and grill. There is supposedly no Internet in the campground. However I have T-Mobile on my phone and AT&T on my iPad and for some reason I was able to get online if both these devices were next to each other. It was about one bar. You can go up the road to the 7-11 and get more bars. Make sure you purchase gas in or before Hopewell if you are coming from the north. It's about a 30 min. drive down a curvy two lane road to get to the campground. This campground is pretty far from anything. Smithfield is about 30 min away. We camped at Chippokes Plantation State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Awesome very large pool in the park. No shopping nearby but take the free ferry about 15 minutes from the campground over to Williamsburg and or Jamestown. There's also a small beach behind the Visitor's Center down a long path to the James River.

Chincoteague Island KOA, Chincoteague, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground. We are next door to Maui Jack's Water Park which looks good but is not open in April. They have a nice playground, a small pet area and a jumping pillow. They rent golf carts, four wheeled pedal carts and kayaks. The WiFi is very good but we parked near the office. Not sure if it's as good all over. The bath houses and laundry are very nice. The laundry machines use credit cards. The odd thing we discovered is the water connections are shared so there's a splitter on the pipe. The pipe we had to use required two 25' foot hoses to reach. Some sites may require a longer electrical cord. We also had cable tv. There is a pool but not open in April. We had good cell service with AT&T. We would return. We camped at Chincoteague Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA), Staunton, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed it here and loved our space. However, when booking, please be advised that this is an unusual campground. It's split up into three sections -- there's an upper section near the cabins, the main sites around the lake (no swimming; just fishing) and a section near the road for larger rvs. If you stay in the section near the road, it's a bit of a hike to get to the bathhouse. A very unusual thing we noticed are the spaces parallel to the lake on the campground road. If you park in one of these and you have slides, your slides will be in the road. Do not get those. There is also a laundry room. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

A must-do is eating at the Edelweiss restaurant. It was a cute little place that serves excellent German food and there were people playing accordian music. We also drove to Monticello which was about 50 min. away.

Hungry Mother State Park, Marion, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We camped at Burson which is about a mile from the swimming beach. We really liked it. Sites close but not too close. They have a restaurant at the lake which was good. We ate on the outdoor patio. Wifi wasn't too good but when we put up our wifi extender, it significantly improved. We camped at Hungry Mother State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fransted Family Campground, Franconia, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

The owners were super helpful about where to go and what to see. Fairly close to Franconia Notch State Park. Wifi was just okay. Decent AT&T coverage. The tent sites were awesome! Almost made us want to tent. They were close to the creek and all had nice mulch. Wish we had gone at a busier time because some things were not open for the season yet. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fransted Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

There are only about three spaces that are suitable for fifth wheels or long trailers. It took us 30 minutes to get into our space and level. We had to use our Anderson levelers. They have poles with site numbers in odd places and they are easy to hit. It was very frustrating which is not what you want after a long drive. Most of the spaces do not have electric. Also, my husband used the bath house showers and there was no way to control the temperature. Most of his shower was in cold water with intermittent warm water. We got two useless channels on the tv using rv antenna. Also, there is no wifi and barely any cell coverage with AT&T. We camped at Taughannock Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Acadia Seashore Camping and Cabins (formerly Mountain View Campground), Sullivan, Maine

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We were in a site right on the water. It was beautiful. It was a pull-in site with gravel and grass around the sites. It is a very basic, small campground with no wifi (at least at the sites on the water). The sites near the road include sewer. There is a dump station. The ones near the water are only electric and water. If you are interested in spending most of your time in or near Bar Harbor, there are many closer campgrounds. However, if you like peace and quiet, this is the campground for you. Considering there are no amenities, we thought the price was a little high. We camped at Acadia Seashore Camping and Cabins (formerly Mountain View Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Quemahoning Family Recreation Area, Hollsopple, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Google maps tells you to turn on Woodstown Hwy which leads you to Lemons Road. Avoid that. Stay on Penn Ave (601). Make a right onto Plank Road (4019) and then an immediate right onto Quemahoning Dam Road. This is because Lemons Road is very narrow and winding and not suitable for RVs.

It's situated on a nice lake where you can go swimming. There is a large section with pavilions. It's a pretty small park but pleasant enough. Convenient to Johnstown. You can rent kayaks, paddleboards and canoes. We noticed a wash station outside the bathhouse for tent campers who wanted to wash up some dishes. There is no water at your site. We enjoyed our stay and would return. We camped at Quemahoning Family Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Long Branch COE, Lancaster, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We were very pleased with this site. They even had fish cutting/cleaning wooden tables at every site. There was water and electric at our site but no sewer. IMPORTANT: Make a sharp right at end of dam (it's a down slope because campground is at bottom of dam). There were no signs so we kept going up a steep and curvy mountain road. Luckily found a tight space to turn around. Other campers experienced the same issue. There is the barest of cell coverage and is in and out. No wi-fi and no TV. So if you want to disconnect from all communication, this is the place. Nice playground. We only stayed two nights so can't elaborate about the fishing or any other details. We camped at Long Branch COE in a Fifth Wheel.
