Nice landscaping between the sites with fragrant blooming plants. Many trees within park. Great place if you are traveling the CA-101 & desire to be outside of the Bay area. Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort , Felton, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

Good paved roads and site pads. I was able to ride my bike. Because the park is built among the redwoods the utility hookups are not placed in usual spots. Great park, perfect location, helpful staffers. River view site (#32) overlooking San Lorenzo River. This park was built prior to big rigs...cars are parked everywhere. We camped at Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We took the steam-powered train through the redwood forest to the top of the mountain (round trip 90 minutes) on the Roaring Camp Railroad. Book this a day in advance. They were sold out when people showed up with no reservations. Awesome ride! Great food is available at Cowboy Bar & Grill toward Felton (1/2 mile away from park). Inside and patio dining.

Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan, Santa Barbara, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $115.00
Overall Rating:

This resort overlooks the Pacific Ocean from high above the El Capitan Canyon. We were on the upper terrace with a great view. Paved surfaces, gravel sites and level spot. Full hookups and perfect height for the sewer connection. WiFi was not so good, Verizon signal was strong up top but weak near the office. We love this park, the employees and its location. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Experience the town of Solvang & spend the day there. European sausages/cold beer on tap afford many thumbs up at Copenhagen Sausage Garden. The Mission in Santa Barbara is also an interesting place to visit. Adult self-guided tour -$12 per person. Go experience Los Alamos & eat at hamburgers at "Charlie's" (40 years in business). Eat at the Canyon Market down the hill. Great breakfast & lunch! It is part of the Ocean Mesa facility.

Indian Wells RV Resort, Indio, California

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

Paved roads made it excellent for bike riding. All sites are paved & level. Good water pressure. Utility connections are very close and worked well. WiFi is not the best. Verizon is a strong signal here in the Coachella Valley. Staff is cordial and helpful. Large park with three swimming pools. We like this park. We camped at Indian Wells RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Palm Springs / Joshua Tree KOA, Desert Hot Springs, California

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Level site, paved roads, panoramic mountain views, miniature golf, basketball and shuffleboard courts and all the amenities that all family members would love. Our sewer connection was 4" too high for proper flow, but many others were cut low to the ground. Clean, well landscaped with flowering privacy shrubbery between sites. WiFi connection was pretty strong but faded out at times. Good Verizon signal. Great bicycle riding right in the park. Dog park with lit, covered pet owners pavilion. We camped at Palm Springs / Joshua Tree KOA in a Motorhome.

All Star Burgers is within walking distance (1/4 mile) and serves excellent, fresh food. Must see #1 - Ride America's longest tram to the top of Mt San Jacinto/spend the day in the state park hiking in the mountains ($26.50 ea for tram ride plus $8 parking. Must see #2 - Cabot's Pueblo Museum ($13 adults, $11 seniors).

Fox's RV Park Resort, Parker, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Fox's (since 1949) has many loyal followers frequenting the floating bar and restaurant from across the river (Calif) as well as this side in AZ. There appears to be about 10-15 RV spaces that are set aside for transients and weekenders and the rest are long-term residents. All gravel roadways, level parking spots with very limited space depending on which site you are in. Our 24 foot rig barely fits in lot #27 with no room for a tow vehicle. A short walk to the restaurant and bar, along with good food and very reasonable prices, make it convenient to partake on the premises. Full hookups under the shade of a beech tree! Awesome! We camped at Fox's RV Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

No tow vehicle this trip so we came prepared to purchase our food and drinks here at Fox's because of their facility's capabilities. The fish and chips - very good and enough for two people. Their hamburgers - 1/3 lb and very juicy/tasty & enough for 2 people. Appetizers are very good. The breakfasts on the weekend are more than we can eat and have wonderful flavors. Now we know why people line up to order their food and drinks at Fox's.

Grand Canyon / Williams KOA, Williams, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

None of the sites on the NE lower end (66-82) were even close to being level. The Camp Store offered many souvenirs and camping supplies. Their sitting area also features a huge fireplace. There was a fire ring on our site that we used one evening when it wasn't too windy. The RV Park is conveniently located 5 miles off the I-40. This KOA is 6 miles from Williams, AZ., the hub of the activity about south rim of the Grand Canyon. We camped at Grand Canyon / Williams KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We suggest taking the Grand Canyon Railroad trip to and from the Grand Canyon. Leave the driving to them! Our meal at the Arizona Room at the canyon was superb & moderately priced. We ate in Williams at #1 Historic Brewing Company (excellent); #2 Pine Country Restaurant (excellent); #3 Station 66 Italian Bistro (excellent); and #4 We drank a few brews with the locals at the oldest bar in Williams, Sultana Bar on Route 66.

The interior roadways here need to be reworked! Several full-time residents here. Our site was good, however with full hookups (Deluxe Patio Site). We stopped in Kingman to have maintenance done on our RV. There wasn't much for us to see here. We camped at Kingman KOA in a Motorhome.

Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA, Holbrook, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Site upgrades are ongoing when we visited - adding pavers to each patio and privacy fencing and landscaping between each site. The office was amply supplied with RV supplies and souvenirs. Staff was courteous and helpful. All gravel surfaces making it difficult to traverse the area. Cool petrified tree in the courtyard! We would stop again if we came through the area again. Tips for other Campers:

Painted Desert National Park is a must. Twenty dollar entrance fee for the two of us but well worth it. Favorite restaurants served very fresh, hot delicious food we would recommend - #1 Tom and Suzie's Diner where we ate breakfast one day and lunch one day. Awesome food. Restaurant #2 is Cameleon where they serve all-you-can-eat cod fish and fries during Lent Season! Also excellent fresh breakfast. Excellent food at both places.

This stop was a "one-night only" as headed westward along I-40. The campground is all gravel and the view of the mountains is beautiful. A good stop-over spot in the desert. Good water pressure, utility connections and good restaurant. About 1/2 mile walking distance from campsite to hotel lobby/restaurant. We camped at Sky City RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very roomy site (Deluxe Patio Site) with ample amenities and convenient utility connections. All gravel sites and roadways made it a challenge to ride my bike through the park. We spent three days here and the windstorms kicked up much dust! Overall a great (pre-Roswell) holdover spot! We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.

Must see #1- Sitting Bull Falls National Park ($5 entry per person) is about an hour away from the RV Park and it is awesome. Easily accessed via a paved walkway with railing. Must see #2- ($5) Living Desert Zoo & Gardens (situated above Carlsbad on the hill). Must eat #1 - breakfast at Blue House in town..awesome food, very courteous and accommodating employees. Must eat #2 - Try the free-delivery BBQ at Carlsbad KOA. You wont be sorry.

Pirates Den Resort, Parker, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We were in row three from the river. All gravel surfaces made it difficult to traverse on my bicycle. Sites are very close. Not much privacy, but we don't stay inside our rig much. A very nice office was well-stocked with souvenirs and RV supplies. The riverside restaurant and bar were beautifully designed and very accommodating. We used their laundry room and there were several coin-operated washers/dryers. We camped at Pirates Den Resort in a Motorhome.

The restaurant is great. The breakfast was the best (so far) on our 5-month RV-ing journey. Freshly grated potato hash browns which are difficult to find these days. The rib-eye and strip steaks were very good. Live entertainment inside the restaurant was awesome beginning at 5:30 PM! We loved our experience at Pirates Den and we will definitely be back!
