Camping on the Battenkill, Arlington, Vermont

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large campground with a lot of trees. The roads are packed dirt as well as the sites. Heavy rain made it rather muddy. Each site is reasonably level, but it varies from site to site. Most sites are heavily treed, with little sunshine. Makes for a cool, comfortable setting without ac. There are some sites located around an large open grass area that receive more sun. The campground borders the Battenkill river with good access. A lot of tubers, waders, and kayaks. Any fishing is pre or post "tuber hatch". There are 2 areas with seasonal/permanent residents. Many sites are for tents, pop ups or small trailers. Point of contention. I know I booked a FHU site, but when I arrived it was 30 Amp, no sewer. The host explained I did not book a FHU site. Apparently, it is "common" in the NE to request a FHU and not get one. They offer a dump station and portable dump tank instead. There is only one restroom with two toilets and one shower for a very large area - not nearly adequate. The rest rooms are "surface clean", not too thorough. Overall, it is a beautiful setting, mostly quiet, and peaceful. It is "family friendly, so a lot of kids running/biking around. Even with the several complaints, we probably would return. We camped at Camping on the Battenkill in a Motorhome.

Ausable River Campground, Keeseville, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This camp ground is in heavy trees, with a lot of separation between sites. Sites are pull through, on level grass. There is a picnic table and fire ring at each site. There are two separate areas - upper off the river and lower on the river. Most of the lower sites are permanent/seasonal residents. The owners are friendly and helpful. The "office" is in their house. The "laundry room" and showers are marginal at best. Two small washers, one broken and one residential dryer. $2.00 to wash, $1.50 to dry - pay at the office. One small shower in poor repair. The guests are not friendly and keep to themselves. There is a constant "hum" of road noise from the Highway. The grounds are mowed and trees trimmed, but there are some limbs hanging over the roads. There is no fishing on the river, it is too slow, low, and warm. Overall, it is just an ok camp ground. Nothing to make it stand out or make you want to return. There are much better choices in Wilmington, closer to Lake Placid. We would not say again. We camped at Ausable River Campground in a Motorhome.

Country Hills Campground, Marathon, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This camp ground is on 80 acres in the hills outside Marathon NY. The owners are on site and always around. They are welcoming and very friendly. The staff is also accommodating. The sites are long pull though gravel, on terraces. They over look the lake in the center of the camp ground. One major complain is they are not very level. We got level, but the front wheels were off the ground. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. All the utilities are convenient, easy to hook up, and worked well. The grounds are grass with trees on some sites. There are a lot of seasonal campers in various levels of repair. Most all of the treed sites are seasonal. The roads are all gravel, with a fair amount of potholes. They are narrow and have some tight corners. There is nothing that makes this park stand out, The location and owners make this camp ground. The few negatives keep it from receiving a higher rating. Rated as Average. We would say again. We camped at Country Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Four Mile Creek State Park, Youngstown, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice State Park with large, back in sites. Each site is on level grass with a picnic table, and fire ring. Some sites are treed, others are open with a lot of space between sites. Each site is approximately 50' x 50'. Rest rooms are very clean and well maintained. All the roads are paved. The electricity is convenient and works well. It is close to the lake, but no beaches or convenient access. There are several yurts for rent and a lot of tent camping sites. The only negatives are no water or sewer hook-ups. We would recommend this State Park. We would stay here again. We camped at Four Mile Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

All the roads are paved and each site has level asphalt parking site. The hookups are convenient, work well, and easy to attach. Pier-Lon Park, Medina, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very large RV park in a rural setting. Large pond at the entrance with roped off swimming area and beach. The entire park is a large grass field with spacious sites. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are on grass and not overly level. The entire park perimeter is surrounded by permanent resident. The interior is for short term stays. The cell service and internet is horrible. You can purchase internet service from a off site provider for $2.00 a day. It worked ok. There are a multitude of organized activities. There is a kids play area, basket ball, horse shoes, disc golf, and water activities at the lake. The lawns and grounds are reasonably well maintained. The buildings are old and need of paint, repair, and updating. The rest rooms are only "surface clean". The staff is very friendly and helpful. The owner is a minister and conducts Sunday service if you are so inclined. There is a no firearm, no alcohol policy. Overall is is quiet and peaceful. It is in need of repair and upgrading. Because of this and the poor cell service it is not rated well. Rated as Below Average. We would not stay there again. We camped at Pier-Lon Park in a Motorhome.

Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

The road from the highway is paved. Interior roads are paved or gravel. There is plenty of room to maneuver around. The pull through sites are level gravel, separated by grass and some trees. The site length and width are adequate. The sites are rather close together, with little privacy. All the utilities worked well, are convenient, and easy to hook up. There is a huge club house, heated swimming pool, an exercise room, and a large grass area, horse shoes, pickle ball, mini golf, and a kids play area. There is a very large fenced dog area. The office will receive mail and packages. The grounds are landscaped with grass and trees, surrounded by thick trees and brush. Laundry has eight washers and eight dryers at $2.00 to wash and $2.00 to dry. The showers clean and well maintained. Most of the guests are short term and keep to themselves. The office staff is courteous and helpful. Overall it is an OK park with a lot of positives but nothing to make it standout. Would come here again. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Motorhome.

This is the state fair grounds in Raleigh NC. All sites are first come, first serve- no reservations. The camp ground is in the back side of the fair grounds, accessed by a dirt road. The sites are back in with level gravel. There is plenty of room to maneuver around and park an extra vehicle. All the utilities worked well and easy to hook up. There is minimal shade and some grass. The cell phone signals are strong. It is very basic, but works well for a night or two. Whispering River Resort (formerly Misty River Cabins & RV Resort), Walland, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Rated as Average. This park is a bit remote and difficult to get to. It's 10-15 minutes from Walland or Marysville. The road from the highway is paved, but very narrow and over grown with trees. Price seems high for what it is, but typical for the area, due to the proximity of the Smokey Mountain National Park. The roads are gravel as well as each site. As long as the speed limit is observed, it is not dusty. There is plenty of room to maneuver around. The sites are level gravel, separated by grass and some trees. The site length and width are adequate. Fourteen sites are back in, thirteen are pull in, and the rest are pull through. There is a separate area for boats, trailers, and RV storage. All the utilities worked well, are convenient, and easy to hook up. Though the water is not very good, it has a unusual flavor. There is a heated swimming pool, an exercise room, and a large grass meadow on the edge of the park. The office will receive mail and packages. The grounds are landscaped with grass and trees, surrounded by thick forest. The Little River runs the entire length of the park with a walking path. Laundry has six washers and six dryers at $2.00 to wash and $1.50 to dry, 3 washer were broken. The showers are large, clean and well maintained. Most of the guests are short term and keep to themselves. The owners ares courteous and helpful. Overall is is an OK park with a lot of positives. It's hard to down grade, but it is just so plain vanilla, nothing bad or nothing standout. Because of the poor cell service, poor internet, and poor water, we cannot recommend this park. Rated as: Average. Would not stay here again. 15 minutes to The Great Smokey Mountain National Park, 45 minutes to Dolly World, Pigeon Forge, or Gatlinburg, 30 minutes to Knoxville. Oak Grove RV Resort (55+ park), LaBelle, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Well maintain RV Resort $1298.00 month plus electricity. This is expensive, but for southern Florida, in prime season, it is not an outrageous price. The roads are paved and easy to maneuver around. The sites are level pavers with a patio. The sites are well spaced out with grass between each one. Premium sites face 2 different lakes with beautiful views. All sites are pull-in, so the lakes can be seen through the windshield. Several sites are pull thru, and many back ins away from the lakes. The sites are 80 feet long, plenty of space for tow vehicles and trailers. All the utilities worked well, are convenient, and easy to hook up. There is a heated swimming pool, pickle ball courts, horse shoes, shuffle board, pet area, and a club house. The club house has a game room, DVDs, books, kitchen, and a stage. The grounds are a work in progress, nicely landscaped but immature - the park is only 2 years old. The laundry has four washers and four dryers at $2.00 to wash and $1.75 to dry. The laundry, bath house, showers and pools are very clean and well kept. Breakfast is offered a couple days a week, pot lucks, socials, and special events are on going. There are several park model cabins on site. The other guests are very welcoming and friendly. It is too new for many cliques to be formed. The staff is courteous and helpful. They are still build. We camped at Oak Grove RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Ingram's Marina, Quincy, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is primarily a Marina and fishing camp. It is a combination of permanent cabins and RV sites. It is old, very basic, and hap haphazardly laid out. The main road is asphalt. Each site is level, packed gravel with grass. Some sites are close together others are well spaced. There is a marina store, shower house, toilet house, and separate laundry. The park is reasonably well maintained and quiet. All the utilities worked well, are convenient, and easy to hook up. The owners are friendly and willing to answer questions about the area and fishing in the lake. The daily rate reflects ½ price with Passport America, valid Monday thru Thursday - maximum 3 days. Weekly is $200; monthly is $500. Rated as Average. We would stay there again. We camped at Ingram's Marina in a Motorhome.

Red Bay RV Park, Red Bay, Alabama

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a self service RV Park on the edge of town. Red Bay is where Tiffin motor homes are built. The only reason to go to Red Bay is to tour the factory or to get your Tiffin motor home worked on. With our Fleetwood Bounder, we felt like a Vespa scooter at a Harley Davidson rally. The RV park is not a park, it is a level gravel parking lot with hook ups. There is no landscaping, office, facilities, or people on site. All the sites are long pull throughs, fairly wide, on level gravel. There is plenty of room to park a tow vehicle. The park was obviously designed and built for for class A motor home short term use. All the utilities worked well and are convenient. The owner stopped by was friendly and expressed his appreciation for staying at his park. This park is good at what is it designed for. Stay a few days or several to get your Tiffin worked on or serviced. There are 3 or 4 more similar RV parks in Red Bay. It is all that is available. It worked good enough for one night or a few more. Reservations are not required. We would stay there again, when we get our dream Tiffin motor home. Rated as average. We camped at Red Bay RV Park in a Motorhome.

Three Oaks and a Pine, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The RV Park is right in New Orleans and across the street from the bus stop. It is not in a very good part of town, though is does have a fence and coded gate. The owner lives on site and monitors everything closely, we felt secure and safe. There is no landscaping to speak of. All the sites are back in, fairly wide, on gravel and grass. There is plenty of room to park a tow vehicle. They are mostly level. The park is next to a train switch yard, there is constant train noise. We had the site furthest from the road, closest to the train tracks, but still had a lot of road noise. The turn from the road and entrance into the park is tight for big rigs, but can be done. Once inside, it is easy to maneuver around. All the utilities worked well and are convenient. We dd not use the showers or laundry. The office and club house are in a residential building. We did not use it, but the owner said there was TV, books, movies, and a lounge area. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable. He helps us plan an efficient use of our one day in New Orleans. It worked good enough for one night, we probably would not stay there again, though I have read this is as good as it gets in the city. Rated as below average. We camped at Three Oaks and a Pine in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Well maintain RV Resort with all the amenities. The roads are paved and easy to maneuver around. The sites are pull through, level concrete, with a small concrete patio, picnic table, and surrounded by grass. The sites well spaced out and long enough for a tow vehicle. All the utilities worked well, are convenient, and easy to hook up. We had a minor sewer problem which was resolved quickly. There are two swimming pools, a very large hot tub (pool), a lazy river, miniature golf course, shuffle board, pickle ball, horse shoes, and a club house. The club house has game room, DVDs, pool table, and a kitchen. There is an outside patio/gazebo area with propane heaters and fireplaces . The grounds are nicely landscaped. There are three laundry buildings/shower houses. Each laundry has four washers and four dryers at $2.00 to wash, $1.75 to dry. The laundry, bath house, showers and pools are very clean and well kept. Breakfast is offered two days a week for $6.00. Social every Friday night, pot luck dinner every Thursday evening. There are numerous activities, planed trips, and social events. They have a van for off site trips. Outdoor movies are shown in the summer. The entire staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and go out of their way to make the guests feel welcome. Rated as Excellent.
