Zion Canyon Campground & RV Park, Springdale, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $69.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is the closest campground to the west entrance to the National Park. It is actually ran by the Quality Inn and is located behind the Inn. The sites are a combo of pull throughs and backins and tent sites. Most of the sites are rather small and tight, and are better suited to class B, Class C motor homes, and small trailers. We had one of the larger pull through sites and it was just long enough for our 40 foot motor home. We had to park the car beside the motor home and it was tight. They have full hookups with 50 amp, but also have some that are primitive. They have two bath houses, but the showers do not have a shelf, or bench to put your personal items on. The hotel pool is also available to the RV campground guests, but the pool itself, is pretty small. The sites are a combo of red dirt and rocks, and are semi level. Probably would not stay here again if in the area. We camped at Zion Canyon Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Page Lake Powell Campground, Page, Arizona

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is located in the Lake Powell National Park, just north of Page, Arizona. The sites are large with a combo of back-ins and pull throughs. Most are asphalt and some are concrete. They have 5 loops that are full hookups and other loops that are primitive. The sites are all full sun, so during the hot summer months, it will be hot and A/Cs will run all day long. They have one bath house for all the loops, so it stays pretty busy. They have a camp store, a marina where you can rent boats, or book a boat tour of the canyons. The campground could be really nice, but here is the bad. They do not clean the sites between guests, so when we arrived, our site was littered with cigarette butts, and trash. I never once saw any employees clean any sites, and we were there for a week. The other bad thing, is that a lot of foreign guests go here in there rental RVs, and most have no clue about camping etiquette. We had multiple people using our site as a walkway during our stay. You can't correct them, because most do not speak English. We would not stay here again because of these two things if we return to the area. We camped at Page Lake Powell Campground in a Motorhome.

Moab Valley RV Resort , Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is the closest campground outside the Arches National Park, and is located just across the river before actually getting into Moab. We had a premium site for our 40 foot motor home and tow, and it was very very tight. with almost no room for the tow vehicle. We actually were sticking out slightly into the roadways on both ends of the pull through. The sites are so tight that the slides on our motor home and the slides on the adjacent 5th wheel were almost touching. The sites are dirt, but are fairly level. They do have full hookup sites with 50 amp, but they are not really suited for big rigs. The only place to hook up when leaving is in the roadway by the garbage dump. They have a laundry room. bath house, and pool, none of which we used, but stayed very busy from what we observed. We probably would not stay here again if we were ever in this area. We camped at Moab Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park / Island Acres Section, Palisade, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

James Robb Island Acres State Park - Grand Junction, Colorado. The campground is actually located just to the east of Pallisade, on the River. The campground is a mixture of primitive, partial hookups and full hookups. We had a full hookup pull through site with 50 amp, water and sewer. The site we had was very long and pretty wide. The site itself was gravel, but it was pretty level. The big negative that I have seen is the road noise from I-70, as it is directly next to the interstate. We are fairly use to road noise, so it did not bother us, Even the train which is located across the river, was really an issue for us. If you sit our at night, you will need to use bug spray, as the mosquitoes, are fairly bad. Certainly not as bad as other campgrounds that we have been to, but you will get bit. There are some low branches and road side growth that needs to be trimmed. I scrapped the top and sides while going around the roadway. A lot of weekend warriors here, so the weekdays are fairly empty, but the weekends have the campground full. We will be staying here again in about 6 weeks on our trip back to the east. We camped at James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park / Island Acres Section in a Motorhome.

If you like good Chinese food, there is a take out place next to the City Market Grocery in Grand Junction, called China Jade. Some of the best Chinese that we have had on our trip through the west.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Cheyenne Mountain State Park - Colorado Springs, Colorado. This state park campground is located on the side of Cheyenne Mountain, directly across from the Army Base. Be prepared to be woke up every morning with reveille. The views at night are really awesome when all the lights come on in the valley below. The sites are full hookup with 50 amp, water and sewer. The sites are concrete pads with asphalt driveways. There are patio areas that are either a few steps up or down, depending on which side you are on. We were here for a week, and loved the campground, but weren't really impressed with the area. Beware of the inconsiderate, aggressive drivers in this area. Some of the worst that we have encountered. If in this area again, we would stay here again. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

I don't know if the other reviews of this park are based on really bad stays at other parks, or just overly nice. We spent a week here in the Abilene loop, and this is the absolute worst place that we have been in over a year and a half of travels through the western U.S. You can not even sit outside your RV, as the mosquitoes are so bad that they are swarming. You will be covered in mosquitoes in less than a minute. The only way to avoid being eaten alive, is to constantly stay in motion, and in the sun. If you even think of getting in the shade, you will be covered. The park itself is nice enough, but with the waterfront area being over ran by the geese, and all their poop everywhere, the water was closed to swimming most of the time that we were here. They also seem to be having some issue with the electrical power, at least on the Abilene loop, as we lost power several times while here. If we return to the Denver area, we would not stay here again, or at least pick a site that was in the open sun, with no shade trees anywhere around. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Mexican restaurant just down the street, is one of the better ones that we have found on our travels. Do not book sites that border the undergrowth, and are under trees. Mosquitoes are terrible.

Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Chatfield State Park - Littleton, Colorado. This is a state park campground which they are putting a lot of money into to do upgrades. There is still a lot of construction going on, but the park is very nice and clean. Th park is located on a reservoir, so water sports during the warmer months is a daily routine. The campground is very open with lots of room between sites and the sites are large with level concrete pads and asphalt roads. There were no obstacles that we noticed on any of the interior roads. Our site was full hook ups with 50 amp, water and sewer. Almost all of the sites are pull throughs, as was ours. We did not use the bath houses, but we did take a look at them, and they seemed to be clean and fairly new. The laundry room was well equipped and clean. We would stay here again if visiting the area. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Elk Creek Campground & RV Park, Grand Lake, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We spent four days here while exploring the Rocky Mountain National Park. This is the closest campground to the national park, so it is very convenient for exploring. The campground itself is an older smaller campground with 30 amp electric. The site that we had was full hookups, and was one of only two in the campground that would fit our 40 foot motor home with tow. They have bath houses, laundry and a small camp store. The interior roads are fairly tight with some low branches. Some sites are fairly open, while some have a fair amount of tree coverage. We had a issue with the power while here. For some reason the voltage went very high for over an hour during the night. Our EMS took power off the coach to protect it, so an EMS would be highly recommended if staying here. We probably would not stay here again in our motor home. It is fine for smaller trailers, and class C motor homes. We camped at Elk Creek Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

St. Vrain State Park, Longmont, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We spent 4 days here on our way down to the Rocky Mountain National Park. The park is fairly large, with two sections. We stayed in the newer section which had nice level concrete sites with nice picnic tables and fire rings. The road to the campsite, is dirt with some pot holes, so drive slowly once you are off the blacktop. Our site was directly beside one of the lakes, so we had nice views the entire stay. The site that we were in was full hookups with 50 amps, but some of the older sites, do not have sewer hookups. We did not use the bath house, so no comment on that. You are close to almost anything that you would want, so it makes it very convenient. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at St. Vrain State Park in a Motorhome.

Red Desert Rose Campground (formerly RV World Campground), Rawlins, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped off here for two days to break up our trip from Jackson, Wyoming to Denver Colorado. This campground is a combination of long stay residents and people like us that are just passing through. If is right off of I-80 so it makes it very convenient. The sites are a combination of back ins and pull throughs. We had a pull through that was fairly level, with full hook ups. You do get some road noise from the interstate, and there is a train, that comes through every few hours. My major complaint is the wind. It blew 35 to 35 MPH the whole time with higher gusts. I had to let my slides in a few times because the wind got so bad. The bathrooms and laundry areas were clean and nice. For the price it is hard to beat. We would stay here again if passing through the area. We camped at Red Desert Rose Campground (formerly RV World Campground) in a Motorhome.

Fireside Resort - Jackson Hole Campground, Wilson, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $110.00
Overall Rating:

We spent 3 days here as a reprieve from staying in Grand Teton campground, which was terrible. The campground is actually located a few miles outside of Jackson Wyoming, which was OK for us. This campground is small, well kept, clean, with a friendly staff. We had a pull through premium site, that was plenty wide and long enough for our 40 foot motor home and tow. The bathrooms were clean, but could use a little upgrading. The laundry was nice and clean. If in the area again, we would stay here again. Buffalo Bill State Park, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This state park is actually separated into 3 different campgrounds. This review is for the North Fork campground. The campground has 3 sections, one is reservations only, one is walk up with electric, and one is dry camping. We had a reserved site with electric and water. None of the sites offer sewer hookups. They have pay showers that we did not use, vault toilets which we did not use. The campground is on the west side of the Buffalo Bill Reservoir in between the surrounding mountains, so it is extremely windy here. The campground is actually about 13 miles west of Cody, so it is a little drive into town. Not a bad campground, but there are better options, especially if you like full hook ups. We camped at Buffalo Bill State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park - West Yellowstone, Montana. We spent a week here while visiting and exploring Yellowstone National Park. Without a doubt, this is the nicest park in the area. We had a back in site that had plenty of room for our 40 foot Class A, and a designated parking area for the tow. Full Hook ups sites with 30 and 50 amp. Clean well appointed bath house, laundry room, playground for the kids. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Pretty good Restaurants in the area as well. Columbia Falls RV Park, Columbia Falls, Montana

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

We spent a week here while visiting Glacier National Park. The park is fairly small, and somewhat compact. In fact, after looking around the park, I am not sure how you would navigate the park if it was really busy. We cut through a site in order to get to our assigned site. The sites are long enough for a big rig and tow, but they are pretty tight. They have planted trees around the sites, which make the sites even tighter. We had tree limbs touching the slides when we let them out. The park is quite and well taken care of. It is in the edge of the town, which makes it convenient for shopping, and eating out. I am not sure if we would stay here again if in the area, because of the trees around the sites, and the tightness of the sites. We camped at Columbia Falls RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three days here in between Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park. The park is very clean with lots of flowers everywhere. The site that we had was a large pull through with full hookups. The park is close to a train track, and the train runs through several times a day, but we really didn't have any issues as most of the places that we have stayed in the last couple of months have been close to railroads. If ever in Missoula again, we would not hesitate to stay here again. We camped at Jim & Mary's RV Park in a Motorhome.
