Char-Bo Campgrounds, Derby, Vermont

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful location walking distance to Lake Salem. Took my 3 grandsons camping while Mom was in the hospital with new baby sister and Dad and Papa were installing new floors for Mom. The staff is so friendly and helpful and on site. Told me when we checked in if after hours come to her site anytime. Park is manicured! Beautiful pool, rec area, two great playgrounds for kids, horseshoe pits. Wooded and open area. The Bathroom/ shower and laundry area was super clean. Nice open area to read or play table games adjacent to laundry. Very quiet, peaceful setting. Some sites offer a view of the lake. Camp store was well stocked with essentials, reasonable priced. Showers are metered at $1.50, but I didn't mind since they were beautiful tiled showers that looked more like a hotel then campgrounds. I was able to use cell to text, not a strong signal at site. Not sure about Wi-Fi. I turn off my roaming & data since we occasionally ping off of Canada in this area. Really enjoyed the stay and my grandsons wanted to stay an extra night. We camped at Char-Bo Campgrounds in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is easy access to Lake Salem for fishing. If you have a boat, there is a small boat lauch and dock. Additionally there are several other beautiful lakes nearby with access if you want to do fishing or lake swimming. Close to Canadian border. Grocery Stores less than 5 miles away in Derby and Newport as well as drug stores, etc. Highly recommend this campground .

Frosty Acres Camping Resort, Schenectady, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We were looking for a place to camp for a couple of nights to break up a 10 hour drive from our home to our destination in Vermont. Depending on which direction you come in the entrance can be tricky for some bigger RV. It is a very sharp left turn to enter. Fortunately we have a little pop up. Our site was decent, pretty level, a little wet from recent rains, but shady as requested. Too close to the road for my liking but more than enough space. My disappointment set in when I went to use the restroom. I was told at check in that there were two bathrooms on our level. Showers, laundry etc were in one central location at the bottom. Okay, I can deal with that. The restrooms were a step above a pit toilet. They were flush, very old, smelled. One extremely dirty sink with only cold water, the hot water handles were removed. No mirrors, shelf, hooks. The majority of "campers" are Big RV's and seasonal. Some look like they have been there for years. Some well maintained , others pretty scary. The level below was for tents. It was packed to the brim. And the "campers" in my opinion were not educated in camping etiquette. Several groups/families together with a ton of kids. Great I love to see families enjoying the outdoors. However, the adults spent a lot of time drinking, were loud; did not bother to monitor the kids. Starting at 645 am all we heard was Mom mom mom or dad dad dad .... repeatedly. I wanted to say PLEASE respond to your child, clearly they need your attention. Our 2nd night while eating dinner the noise level was rising. I wanted to take a hot shower, but did not want to hike up & down to the central location. There is no parking near it. The staff is not friendly. We were warned about exceeding the 5 MPH speed limit. Yes we were going at least 7 mph. Most ride around in golf carts We ended up packing up & leaving early. I only recommend this as last resort if you need a place for a night. Definitely not worth what they are charging. Not a great place if you are a Pop UP or tent camper. We camped at Frosty Acres Camping Resort in a Tent Trailer.
