Rock Springs / Green River KOA, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the best KOA experiences we have had. Pleasant check in. I made my reservation by phone about a week before arriving and asked for a site that does not face my neighbors door (which most of these sites do.) They honored my request by putting us at an end site. Check in included two nice sized chocolate chip cookies. Our site was level but a tad short, and if we had kept the truck attached to the fifth wheel, we would have stuck out a bit too far. This was not a problem since we wanted to explore the area. Only negative we cold see is that the sewer is too high which made arranging our drains to go down hill. This campground has many amenities. A clean but small pool was popular. Clean restrooms, and a large well appointed laundry. They even had a small exercise room. Seasonal campers are totally separated from the rest of the park and have their own restrooms and even wifi. The tent areas are very interesting. Each site is walled in on four sides by high wooden fences which helps deflect the winds, a real benefit for tenters. Roads are gravel but treated with some liquid that prevents dust. I was very impressed with this well run campground and would definitely stay again. We camped at Rock Springs / Green River KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Red Desert Rose Campground (formerly RV World Campground), Rawlins, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Red Desert Rose Campground was once RV World Campground and if your GPS is preloaded with campgrounds, that is how you will find your way here. Friendly check in complete with two small baggies, one for people with mints and one for our dogs with dog treats. As someone else mentioned, a free car was offered for short trips to stock up in town. Escort to our site. Whole park is gravel with some grassy sites for tenters. Road in and to sites was smooth as was our site with was plenty long enough for our rig and truck. It was very level. Sites are wide enough to get your slide out and awning out but winds may prevent you from using your awning. Showers are very clean. They have a big children's playground, miniature golf, and a clean and large dog run area large enough to throw a ball for your dog. Campground is far enough off the highway that road and train noise is not too bad. We were only here for one night but I would stay again. We camped at Red Desert Rose Campground (formerly RV World Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Terry Bison Ranch Resort, Cheyenne, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We were unable to get reservations at our first choice for this area so we went with this campground and now I am glad we did. Check in was pleasant and we were escorted to our FHU, drive through site. Road to sites can have some ruts and potholes so drive slow. Sites are a mix of gravel and grass. Our site was pretty level but some sites looked rutted and needed more leveling. Sites are very close together, we had to do some maneuvering to pull in around our neighbors awning. Shower and restrooms are large and clean and the laundry had plenty of washers and dryers. There are a lot of activities here. They have horseback riding, pony rides for children, fishing pond stocked with trout, and a petting zoo, along with two playground areas. Best of all was the ride out to see the bison. Two restaurant's and we ate at the Senator. Food was good but service was very slow, even with no other events that night. In spite of a few negatives, I would stay here again. We camped at Terry Bison Ranch Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Holiday RV Park, North Platte, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Just off I-80 this campground attracts campers by the sheer convenience of being near the highway. There is highway noise but since it is hot out we have our windows closed and air on so no noise. Friendly staff check in and a quick response to an electrical problem at our box which was resolved. Almost all sites are pull through and FHU. Our site was nicely level. Only a few perimeter sites are back in. Mature trees give shade most of the day and most sites. A few sit in the sun. Clean pool looks good and there is a nice size playground for children. Wifi was excellent. Bathrooms are clean and convenient for all sites. Our site was gravel and level with a small amount of grass under the picnic table. Dirt around sides could be a mud problem if it were to rain. No campfires in this campground. Over all a great place to stop on your way west or east. We camped at Holiday RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hall County Park, Grand Island, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

I had read reviews about this park and decided to give it a try. We arrived at noon and were greeted by the camp host. She told us there were only two sites left. Site one would have been difficult for us to maneuver into because of a trailer across from it but she told us we were welcome to stay at the "water fill" site at the entrance of the park. We decided on that. It was an easy pull into and we pulled forward enough that others could access the water if needed. The site was concrete but we did have to level a bit. Only other drawback was that our door faced the road so we had to be careful entering and exiting. We did have a picnic table and our site was very secluded. Although it is an electric only park, the sites are all concrete, well kept grass between, and a beautiful garden at the entrance. All sites have some shade at either morning or evening. Shower/rest rooms are available at an easy walk from all sites. Restrooms are very clean. Showers are pay to use. Camp host told us at one point they were free and ran out of hot water frequently. Lots to do in this park but wet spring and early summer have some parts of the park under water. Camp sites are high and dry but mosquitoes are numerous right now. No Wifi or cable but very good OTA tv and great Verizon signal. You cannot beat this park for the price. We camped at Hall County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA, Gretna, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for two nights and picked this campground as others in area did not get good ratings on Campground Reviews. I have found most KOA's are tightly packed. This was no exception. Office staff took our reservation by phone same day as arrival and were very pleasant. Check in was also a nice experience. Escorted to our site and he helped us maneuver into a tight pull through. He told us the camp was built in 1962, long before the bigger rigs and slide outs. Our site was gravel and had a picnic table on a wooden platform. That was a nice touch as rain in the area would have made it very muddy. No spot on the site was level. This was a FHU with cable, not large enough for a fire pit. Showers were clean and I took advantage of the laundry which was also clean and had four washers and dryers. Lots for children to do, pool, bouncy thing, miniature golf, and more. Other sites are larger, have concrete level pads and patios but they are also very pricey. We had excellent Wifi and Verizon signal. Pleasant staff, easy access to I-80, minimal road noise, and clean grounds would bring me here again. We camped at West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tailwater West Campground COE, Iowa City, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

I have never been dissappointed by COE campgrounds and this one is just as good as others we have stayed in, perhaps a cut above. All sites are concrete pad and very level. Our site was back in, water and electric only. Sites are nicely spaced with no crowding. Pad is wide enough for the picnic table so no mud, sand, or stones to migrate inside. Bathrooms were clean. Toilets and showers are separate with showers very large with a separate dressing area and each one private. Bathrooms and showers are handicap accessible. Only negative was that our Verizon signal was very weak and there is no wifi. Our price reflected our Senior pass with the national parks. We camped at Tailwater West Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tincup RV Park, Mahomet, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park probably once surrounded by farm but now suburbs are quickly encroaching. Made a reservation day ahead and was told they only had one site left for Sat. night. Office staff was pleasant. Park has a mix of some shady sites and sunny sites scattered around and behind the rustic office. Looks like a mix of transient and seaasonals but the park is kept clean and mowed. The spot we were given was one of ten sites in front, an open area facing the road and in front of the office. All 10 were pull through with FHU. We were site #1 so had a full view of the grassy but now closed golf driving range. Rest rooms were older style last remodeled in the 60's but very clean. Nice playground for the children but no other frills. Our Verizon service was good. No picnic table or fire pit at our site, they were too close for that but since we were just a one night stay, not needed. One picnic table and fire pit was just across the road. All in all, a good place for a quiet night off the road. We camped at Tincup RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Buck Creek State Park, Springfield, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second time at this Ohio state park. Beautiful park wrapped around a reservoir. Made a reservation through Reserve America the day before we arrived and got the last electric site for the night, not surprising since it is a Friday night. Easy quick check in, friendly staff. Long drive to campground but roads are paved and well marked. Our site was large enough to just back in and not unhook. Pad is black top and level. Sites seem to vary in length. Back end our trailer had a great view of the boats in the reservoir. One nice size tree shaded our picnic table. Staff came by and cleaned up our fire pit which had greasy aluminum foil left over it. Bathrooms are cinder block style, concrete floor. Reasonably clean as nearly 70 campsites have to share this facility. I had good Verizon service and we got several ota channels. Campground was fully booked but by 9:00 it was quiet. I would say this is well run for a state campground. We camped at Buck Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fox Den Acres, New Stanton, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Made a reservation by phone while on the road with very friendly office staff. Easy and friendly check in as well. This campground is built in layers on hillside and is very large. Drive in did not scare us at all, we have seen far steeper hills at other campgrounds. We were put at the lowest part of the park which held large, level, FHU pull through sites. Cable was offered but we did not use. We had good over the air TV reception. These sites are perfect for those with satellite dishes. Wifi was relatively good as well. Our site was level gravel with grass sides between campers. Each site had a picnic table. Fire rings and more tables are available around the perimeter of the park which means no smoke coming in your windows. Bathrooms are cinder block with concrete floors, very clean. Pool was nice with two slides and a small kiddie pool with fountain as well. Office/museum is full of stuffed, hunted animals which unfortunately included a spectacular wolf. Price for FHU + cable was good. Not far from highway with several easy to navigate loops. I would definitely stay here again when driving west. We camped at Fox Den Acres in a Fifth Wheel.

Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park in the past and they have made some upgrades. Most notable is the packed, level gravel. Last time we were here we had to level one side up nearly a foot. This time we did not have to connect. This campground is unique in that almost every site is a pull through, thanks to a unique design with the campground shaped like a football and all sites are on the side of this shape. Because of this it is easy in and easy out. Our site was shaded and a lovely trail ran behind us, perfect for taking a walk with the dogs. Bathrooms are clean and showers are individual rooms. Our site was only electric and water, so price was steep for just that. You need to stay for 2 nights minimum for FHU sites and we were here for only one night. In spite of the rain we had, our site remained well drained. We camped at Bull Run Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lazy-A Campground, Inwood, West Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very lovely setting high in the hills about 20 minutes from Martinsburg. We were met by the owner as we drove in. We had made reservations in Feb. to be next to friends but the owner told us he did not know we were together and had moved our site away from our friends. This was about a block away. With no cell phone service, this was very inconvenient. In spite of that the campground is well laid out with most campers facing a large field with playground for children, horseshoes, and many covered pavilions for large gatherings. Restroom seemed to be freshly redone with two showers, two toilets, and two sinks. Everyone in the campground was friendly and offered help when we looked like we might need it. Gravel road ran around the whole campground and was easy to maneuver. No wifi, cable, or Verizon service but we got many over the air channels with our antenna. Site was a mix of dirt and grass and a large stream was nearby for dogs to jump in when hot. We would stay here again if every in the area. We camped at Lazy-A Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lums Pond State Park, Bear, Delaware

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Just spent two days at this park. We had just purchased our fifth wheel and needed a place to try out all the systems. This park is beautiful. All RV sites are FHU, unusual for a state park. We made on line reservations and also checked in on line. Glad I did that as there was no one at the check in kiosk when we arrived. The park is well laid out and no confusion getting to our site. Interior roads are roomy and asphalt so no dust. Sites are clearly marked and our site was tagged with our name and a tag for our truck. Sites are asphalt for the rv and additional space on back and one side is sand and fine gravel and very level. Sewer connection, water, and electric (both 30 or 50 amp) easy to reach. Water pressure was a tad low but did not present any problems. All sites are spacious but ours (41) was almost secluded on the right and left. Some sites were more shaded than others. Each site has a very large picnic table and fire pits are far enough away to avoid smoke in your windows. Only one bathhouse for the park but it was central and fairly new. It held 4 handicap rooms with toilet, shower, baby changing station, and sink. There were additional shower stalls, all were private rooms with just changing area and shower stall. All were very clean. On our second day a ranger stopped by to make sure everything was working out for us. We had no complaints. Park has no wifi, not unusual for state parks, but our Verizon service was strong and we used our hot spot to use our computers with no problems. No cable but OTA TV reception was good with many channels available. Many places to walk dogs (on leash only) but lots of fields to explore. There is a trail around the pond but if you drive to the main entrance there are many things to do in that part of the park. You can rent a boat canoe or kayak or fish, visit the nature store and not to forget Go Ape zip line course which I did before this trip. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Everything others have said about this clean, wooded park is spot on. Sites are very large. Pinic table is huge with room at one end for handicap access. Two nice lean-to areas for overnight tenters. Only negative is pump out is horizontal instead of verticle and allows for some escape of sewage. I would definitely come back to this gem again. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park (formerly Hidden Valley Campground), Lanesborough, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, new owner is working hard to improve this campground. He was very helpful backing us into our spot with large logs on one side which he will remove soon. Our site was large and quiet but we did have to level up 5 inches. Site was lumpy. No gravel or grass, but heavily wooded with lots of shade for hot days. Owner is improving sites everyday. Showers are being improved with new toilets just and plywood walls between two very large (free) showers and, old coin machine is still visible. Cleanliness problem is due to youth groups staying in this park. Pool is a gem and very clean. Did not check out laundry. Many seasonals, obvious by lots of decorations around sites but not obnoxious. Park is overall very quiet and beautiful. I will stay here again and look forward to up grading my rating in the future as I am sure this park will continue to improve. We camped at Mt.
