Memphis KOA , Marion, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a few days rest before heading north. Sites are a bit small and had to work hard to squeeze the truck in sideways in front of the 5W and ended up partially in the neighbors yard. The sites were not spacious, but ours was level. Others were visibly not. All hookups were fine. WIFI was quite good considering the park was nearly full. The people were friendly, and credited us our last day when we left early due to bad forecast weather on our route. Highway noise was tolerable. About 1/3 of the laundry units were "out of order". We camped at Memphis KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Asheville West KOA, Candler, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older KOA that is quiet, pretty and well kept. My only concern was the older sites were all quite short with little room for a tow vehicle. Staff said we could park up at the office if necessary. There is some road noise. WIFI was strong and with good bandwidth although we were parked close to the office. It was 85 deg. Pool wasn't open yet ? for the season. Sites were level and gravel/dirt but they had covered many areas with straw so they remained dry. We camped at Asheville West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Candler where the park is located isn't the "best" area of Asheville although it is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway which is a must drive. No grocery stores close, although the Dollar Store just down the road was well stocked and quite nice.

New Bern KOA, New Bern, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

We had a delightful multi day stay here. This has to be the cleanest/nicest KOA we have ever stayed at. Laundry and bathrooms were nicer than many hotels. The staff was very friendly, in fact hooked us up with a local RV repair guy on EASTER Sunday to help with some water heater problems. There is plenty for kids to do, and I must say this was one of the more quiet and peaceful campgrounds we have stayed at. There IS however, highway noise, and our site was a bit short, but parking on end was no problem. WIFI was excellent, although we were very close to the main building. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Cape Hatteras KOA, Rodanthe, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $83.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large, busy and I'm sure usually packed park. It is clean, modern and well run. The sites however are quite cramped. They have many wifi nodes with good signal however even with the park only about half full we were able to download maybe 3 simple webpages in 3 days, and the rest of the time nothing at all. The park was filled with unruly constantly barking dogs in many trailers who's owners just left them in trailers all day with windows open. Although this is a "neighbor issue" it seemed that this was the culture of the entire park. The laundry facilities were great, and of course the ocean access was truly wonderful and what you are paying for. Next time will try an other park in the area, although I'm sure they are all quite crowded. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Indianapolis KOA, Greenfield, Indiana

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Clean, well run campground, very friendly and helpful office staff. We had a large patio site, sites all appeared spacious. WIFI was strong and worked well although not many in park. I was mostly impressed with the very nice grounds. Lush grass between sites. Site was level. Only detraction was loud freeway noise, but we of course chose this campground partially because of its easy access to the freeway. Large RV dealer next door has a very complete store for accessories or parts. We camped at Indianapolis KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA, Bar Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large, and relatively open campground. Some water views, beach is rocky so no real swimming in our area. All amenities worked fine. Their only shortcoming is that many sites are far from level and I saw many units that even with blocks were at quite an angle. A food truck on site had great Clam Chowder and Lobster rolls. What a treat! We camped at Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The food truck on site was quite good, however after eating lobster rolls up and down the coast for a week, the sauteed in butter lobster roll at Travelin' Lobster (just down the road) was in my opinion the best we had on our entire trip. Would go back just for that!

Lake George RV Park, Lake George, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $67.00
Overall Rating:

Although this is a large park, the first impression is that with all the large tree's our site felt very private. It was off season, so relatively quiet. Also of all their activities, pools, theater, etc. most things were shut down. I felt that there could have been a price break for limited amenities late in season, otherwise would highly recommend. Very nice well equipped store. We camped at Lake George RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beach Rose RV Park, Salisbury, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Beach Rose for a home base for trips to Gloucester, etc. The sites were level, all services worked great. Very friendly seasonal neighbors gave a whole list of written tips and places to see and eat. We were lucky enough to be given the only pull through site, 43, which is large and on the end of the single loop. Otherwise I think we would have had difficulty finding room to maneuver a back in site as there are many cars along the road. This is a park for couples, no real activities within the park for kids etc, and in that respect it was exactly what we wished for! We hope to return. We camped at Beach Rose RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Duval's RV Park, Wells, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We had a wonderful stay at what one of the seasonals told me was "the quietest campground in Maine". This is a very small park, about 1/2 seasonals and about 15 back in sites. Everything was very clean and neat, and "worked" at the site. This is a perfect campground to serve as a home base for visiting the other beaches and towns in the area. Owners are super friendly and helpful with tips on area activities. No road nose, internet good, cable good. Note that there aren't "activities" for kids etc. This is small, quiet clean and friendly place to make as a home base if you're staying in the area. We camped at Duval's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fireside Campground, Lone Rock, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We camped at Fireside to be more in the "woods" and real camping. The grounds are quiet, and the sites were spacious, although ours was a bit sandy. All was functional at our full hookup site. The owners are very helpful and friendly, in fact were so kind as to mail us back our water pressure regulator after we forgot it on the spigot when we left. The playground area kept the grand kids busy and they have some kids activities on the weekend. We camped at Fireside Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Des Moines West KOA, Adel, Iowa

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large park with impressive facilities. There are a number of very new very nice cabins as well. All patio sites have like new grills and fire rings. Our site was not quite level, and the gravel roads were dusty during our visit. The camp store has just about anything you could need as well as very good pizza and wings that were a real bargain. The people couldn't be friendlier. Jared is about the nicest camp host we have met. Only downfall is despite their impressive investment in making this "new" clean and welcoming, the internet is basically non existent. While they have a number of WiFi boosters and signal was excellent, we were rarely even able to log in to email, or at most 1 or 2 plain web pages. This despite the fact that there were only a dozen or so trailers staying. This would be a great place for kids. MANY kids activity areas, as well as two fenced off areas for dog park, and a large pond. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The John Wayne home and museum was well worth the visit. Also visit a couple of the famed "Bridges of Madison County" nearby. Just don't clean your vehicle before you go...gravel roads and dust!

Big Red Barn RV Park, Carthage, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This campground, while close to the freeway is quiet and very "country" complete with many birds singing, and even the morning rooster to greet you. Sites were gravel, level, nice shade, and large open area to run the dog. Mostly short term visits it appears. We had a nice time visiting Carthage, as well as Joplin. Wifi and internet were fine, all services fine, without problems. We even were welcomed with cookies when we registered. We would stay here again on our way north or south. We camped at Big Red Barn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park, West Memphis, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We came here to be by the river and see tugs and barges and we sure did! The river was near flood stage and was fast and very busy. Our concrete site on the rivers edge was level and perfect size so the mat and picnic table were just out the door. It was a bit "soft" - not really muddy - but the park had just opened a couple weeks earlier after flooding. The website is a great help to let you know if the park is likely going to close due to high water. Mostly people are staying a night or two on their way back north from their winter campgrounds. Little in the way of amenities. You come here to watch river traffic! Other appreciated perks: little stations to drop your doggie-doo bags and even some bags provided and free laundry with modern large machines were very much appreciated. Everything to see in Memphis is all within a few blocks of the river so had no trouble getting around and hitting a few attractions. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Waterloo / Lost Island Waterpark KOA, Waterloo, Iowa

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here on the way south. Winter was just ending so the water wasn't on, but available at the convenience store at check in. Sewer/power on and fine. Our pull through site still had some mud but it had just "snowed" the days before. Spacious sites. Although this was very early spring was impressed that there would be a lot to do for families with the adjacent water park, lake and activities once summer arrives. Only a mile up the road is a shopping area of town with "everything" in the big box store category, yet the park itself seems "away" from town. Some highway noise. WIFI was strong and fast although park was nearly empty. Verizon strong. We camped at Waterloo / Lost Island Waterpark KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping, Mackinaw City, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We were reluctant as new campers to go to such a large park, but we found a very professional, well maintained, and organized facility. It was the end of Sept so relatively quiet, but even with it's size, we never felt crowded. You have to pay for wifi, and pay according to your desired speed via an outside provider, however I felt that was worth it as the service was very good. Easy access to the ferrys and downtown. We would definitely return! We camped at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping in a Travel Trailer.
