Williston Crossings RV Resort, Williston, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week during early February. RV park is lovely - nicely spaced sites - some fully wooded, and other sites open and sunny. We had a pull through site along Covered Bridge Road and there was a lot of cars and construction traffic going back and forth all day so it was quite noisy. There are lots of seasonal campers here - found it hard to break into social groups. A couple of dings for this RV park. The laundry room was busy - all washers were being used and found that some of the dryers were out of order and made for a long wait. Also used the showers and one shower stall had no hot water and very little water pressure. Had to move to the next shower stall to get decent pressure and warm water. There were no "grab bars" in the shower stalls which I feel is not compliant with ADA regulations. For the price paid, we've had better laundry and shower experiences in FL state parks. Not a lot to do here - had to travel long distances to get to places to kayak, beaches, etc. If you are content to hang around the RV park, this could be the place for you. Not a lot of stores or restaurants in the immediate area. Went to Gainesville for major shopping. We camped at Williston Crossings RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Alafia River State Park, Lithia, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park! Sites are large, well spaced and level - plenty big for our 42 foot fifth wheel. Most of the sites are open and sunny with a few trees for shade. Good for satellite reception. Plenty of nature surrounds you along the hiking and biking trails. Look for the osprey nests located up on platforms on the power lines behind the campsites. We spent a lot of time watching these beautiful birds. There are plenty of grocery stores in Fishhawk and Brandon along with Walmart, AMC theater, and lots more. Two dings for this campground unfortunately - no sewer hookups and no laundry facilities. Campground hosts were great - friendly and very helpful. We camped at Alafia River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to stop at Goodson Farms Strawberry Market - fresh strawberries and produce, along with a eating area serving sandwiches and strawberry shortcake - so delicious! About 5 to 7 minutes outside the park.

Lake Louisa State Park, Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

It's a beautiful state park offering lots to do beyond camping. It's a great place to hike, bike, and paddle - or just relax. The campsites are not the best. Many back-in sites are curved, making it difficult to place the RV. The trees in our site were so overgrown that the branches scratched our rig. During the winter we camp primarily in FL state parks, so we know about ants. But at Our site at Lake Louisa, the ants were crawling on the trees, and then onto our camper and ultimately in to our camper. One of the best things going for this park is the location - very convenient to Orlando attractions and also close to Walmart and other stores. AT&T signal was weak - but worked ok with hotspot and antenna. We camped at Lake Louisa State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

River Plantation RV Park, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We usually stay here twice a year in the spring and fall. The location is perfect, with nice pull through sites to accommodate our big rig. This year, however, we have noticed a few things that need improvement. The cable tv has a terrible fuzzy picture - just about impossible to watch CBS, ABC and NBC. Also, the trees in the park are getting bigger each time we visit and it is not possible to pull into a site without scratching the rig. We have full body paint on our rig and don't want to scratch it. Also, can't open the awnings because of trees. We hope the park will take care of trimming the trees. We camped at River Plantation RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was OK - but I was expecting more. Upon arrival, the entrance gate was raised up, and we proceeded through. There was a piece of plastic sticking out from the raised gate, and it scratched our 5th wheel along the entire side. Needless to say we were extremely unhappy. We reported it to the park manager, who was cordial, but made no commitment to cover the repair. We took pictures and will proceed with a claim. The campground had a lot of standing water which got worse on the days it rained. Also, the posts with the campsite numbers were poorly placed, making it very hard to back into our site. The campground was pretty with lots of trees and shrubs. Weekends were definitely crowded. There was average space between sites. We were able to get satellite and plenty of OTA channels. AT&T service was dismal, even with a mobile hotspot and antenna. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a great location for camping if you want to visit New Orleans. From the campground, drive 20 minutes to Algiers Point, park for $5, and take the ferry across the river to the French Quarter. It couldn't be easier. Don't miss the WW II Museum and all the great restaurants. Enjoyed touring Lafayette Cemetery and the Garden District - such beautiful historic homes.

Henderson Beach State Park, Destin, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We spent a total of 14 days here and although we liked the proximity to Destin and the beach, we will not be returning. After a few days, we began to notice rats in the vegetation between our campsite and the next site. We brought the issue to the attention of the park ranger who thanked us but said there was nothing that could be done. He said it was likely the result of local construction where the soil has been dug up, and the rats had to move on and find a new home. Being from the Chicago area, we are not new to rat issues, but thought rats are mostly an inner city problem. Upon cleaning up and getting ready to move to our next campground, we discovered the rats found their way into our Weber Q grill. This is gross and disgusting. Also, if you don't like roadnoise, this may not be the park for you. The campground is just off the main road, and when sitting outside there is constant roadnoise. Lastly, the bathrooms and showers are cleaned daily starting at 9:00 am. Since there are no sewer connections here, we use the bathrooms/showers. The timing of the cleaning is not ideal for most. Other than these issues, we enjoyed our stay. Campsites are spacious, restrooms are clean, and the beach is beautiful. We camped at Henderson Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort McAllister State Park, Richmond Hill, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground about 35 minutes outside of Savannah. Our pull-through site was spacious with water and 30 amp service. There were plenty of sites for big rigs - our rig is over 42 feet and we had no problem - site 49 was perfect. Due to the trees, we could not connect our satellite service, but there were plenty of OTA channels available. Restrooms were clean - hot showers with great water pressure. We even did laundry while there - clean machines - and very reasonably priced. $1.50 to wash a load and 75 cents to dry. There is a Publix store within 10-15 minutes along with plenty of options for gas/diesel. Walgreens and CVS are on the main road in Richmond Hill. Explored the Fort while here on Veteran's Day and hubby got in free due to his military service. The Fort and related museum contain lots of great information and artifacts from the Civil War era. Would love to return here in the future. We camped at Fort McAllister State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dreher Island State Recreation Area, Prosperity, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

When I made a reservation for a pull through site that was 150 feet long, I thought there would be no problem accommodating our big rig. At just over 42 feet, we need to be careful about where we camp. Unfortunately, this is not the best campground for rigs over 40 feet. In fact, if you are under 40 feet, it would be better.

The campground is beautiful and we have lake views out the back window and along the dining side of our rig. It was fairly easing getting into our site. What is not easy is driving through the campground with sharp curves and turns, and steep drop offs from the road. Although we would love to return, I don't think we will because of the difficulty with the narrow roads.

Very good AT&T signal and plenty of OTA channels. Our satellite did not work here due to the trees on our site. Also, many/most sites here are not level. We camped at Dreher Island State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
