Howell Station COE, Pella, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

An excellent place to stay. Seniors with national park pass get in for half price. This one of the best setup experiences I've ever had in 3 years of RVing; the site was dead level front to back and side to side. We camped at Howell Station COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Biking - trail passes through campground. Fishing - river adjacent to campground; boat ramp too. Lake Red Rock is nearby. Pella is a town settled by Dutch Immigrants and there is much to see and do in town. Do check out the bakeries and meat shops. Tulip Time is in May every year.

Shabbona Lake State Park, Shabbona, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Great place for camping and fishing. Good base location for bike riding on country roads. Facilities are beginning to show the years of under-funded maintenance due to the State's longstanding financial woes. Most sites are difficult to maneuver longer trailers into as the width of the roads and the angle of the sites to the road (often perpendicular) make it challenging. Campground was delightfully quiet. Restaurant had good American comfort food. Reminder: Fill your fresh water tank before proceeding to your site. We camped at Shabbona Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hide-A-Way Lakes Campground, Ashtabula, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for one night on an east coast to midwest trip. Enjoyed fishing (catch and release) in the campground ponds, and a good long bike ride on the Western Reserve Trail which is easily accessible from the campground. The facilities were showing some age, and could use a bit of updating; the back part of the park was occupied by semi-permanent seasonal campers and park models. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we were guided to our site. A nice quiet place to stay. We camped at Hide-A-Way Lakes Campground in a Motorhome.

For a unique experience, go to the Covered Bridge Pizza Parlor in Ashtabula. Good pizza served in a relocated covered bridge.

Adventures East Campground & Cottages, Baddeck, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights. Roads were gravel/dirt and rough but wide and puddles were evident. Some sites along the road near the entrance (sites 31-76 for short stays) were not level. The sites were marked but not well delineated. Dump station (poorly marked) was not convenient. We did not explore the areas beyond the dump station where the long-term and seasonal guests stay. Campground expansion was underway. Public boat launch nearby. Great location, great potential; execution was just satisfactory from our experience. We camped at Adventures East Campground & Cottages in a Motorhome.

Country Villa Motel and Country Camping, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We were enroute to Minnesota, and this was a very convenient place to stop close to the highway. Clean place, friendly service; check-in at the motel office. Nice quiet place with very little highway noise. Campground open from May 1st to mid October. There are things to see and do nearby. Best for one-night stays, adequate for longer stays if you don't need on-site activities. We would stay here again. We camped at Country Villa Motel and Country Camping in a Motorhome.
