Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a few days on our way through the area in a 50 amp FHU site. It is a large campground with wide, easy-to-maneuver roads, and long pull-through sites to handle big rigs. Our pull-through site was plenty long enough for our 40 ft 5th wheel and truck. Wifi was good. The pool was closed for the season but looked clean and well-kept, as were the grounds and campsites. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Palace Campgrounds, Galena, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a few days on our way through the area in a FHU site (#29). The site was just long enough to back in our 40 ft 5th wheel, but not to park our truck. Sewer hook-up at the back of the site, so I needed two 10 ft hoses to reach. Wifi was slow but generally available. Office only open 9am - 3pm, so when we arrived about 3:30, we just picked a site and checked in the next morning. Good location close to all the attractions of historic Galena. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Palace Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Hi-Tide Beach & Campground, Leland, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a few days on our way through the area in a FHU site in the seasonal campers' area. Everyone was very friendly, and the staff was helpful. Beautiful wooded setting along a small river with huge old oak trees. We were there in the Fall, so the swimming lake was closed. But the grounds looked great for families with kids in the summer; lots of playground equipment, mini golf, corn hole toss, etc. Wifi signal was only available in and just around the office, but our AT&T cell signal was OK. The internal roads were tight, and I had to back out of our pull-through site (#2) to get out. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Hi-Tide Beach & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pleasant Creek Campground, Oglesby, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We booked one of the few FHU sites (maybe the only one?) at this campground because of the Passport America rate. When we arrived, we passed by a man breaking up a concrete pad with a jack hammer. The office was locked, but the guy with the jack hammer came over to help us check in. Our reserved site was very narrow, making it tricky to back into, and right next to where the jack hammer was running. I asked for some help backing our rig in, but the guy refused which I thought was kind of strange. He offered a couple of alternate pull through sites that were water-electric only. I think they only have one or two full hook-up sites and they are right next to the office and not easy to back into. As we drove around the grounds to check out our options, we noticed there was no cell reception or wifi. When we pulled up to our reserved site and rolled down our window to tell the jack hammering guy that we'd take one of the pull-through sites, he ignored us and kept jack hammering. Not sure if he didn't notice us there (in our crew cab, extended bed truck and 40 ft 5th wheel less than 6 feet away!), or just being rude. We left and found another RV park a few miles away. I emailed them because I had been charged the full rate, without the Passport America discount, but never received a reply. It was late in the season, and the campground was about to close. The customer service might be better in the summer, but I would not go back to this place. We camped at Pleasant Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Kamp Komfort RV Park & Campground, Carlock, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week when in the Bloomington area for a family wedding. The large pull-through sites were easily accessible with ample space between them. Good wifi signal and cell reception. Close to a highway, but the noise was not an issue for us. The pool was closed for the season but looked clean and well-kept, as were the grounds and campsites. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Kamp Komfort RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wisconsin State Fair RV Park, West Allis, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for two nights when in Milwaukee for the Harley Davidson museum. Great location for accessing downtown Milwaukee museums, sports venues, etc. It's more of a large parking lot than a campground, that most people use for 1-2 day stopovers. We had a large FHU site right next to the office and laundry room, which was clean and well-kept. Good wifi signal and cell reception. Close to a highway, but the noise was not an issue for us. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Wisconsin State Fair RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Cornelia Park, Clarion, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here two nights on our way through Iowa. Self-serve check-in, with drop box for cash payments, was easy. Nice wooded setting with surprisingly good free wifi. Our FHU back-in site was level and quiet with ample space between sites. Site was long enough that we did not have to disconnect the 5th wheel. Roads were open enough to drive around easily with our big rig, and easily back in. We were back away from the lake, but there are a few water/electric only sites near the water with lake views. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Lake Cornelia Park in a Fifth Wheel.

North Star RV Park and Mobile Home Community, Valley Center, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here one night on our way through central Kansas. Convenient location just off the freeway, but far enough to avoid traffic noise. Nice setting with large, level gravel FHU pull-through sites. Did not have to disconnect the truck from the 5th wheel. Staff was friendly and helpful at check-in. Since we're self-contained, did not use the bathrooms, showers or other facilities. But the grounds seemed well-kept and clean. We camped at North Star RV Park and Mobile Home Community in a Fifth Wheel.

Bear Creek Lake Park, Indian Paintbrush Campground, Lakewood, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Convenient location close to Red Rocks amphitheater. No water or sewer hookups at sites. No wifi or cable TV, but AT&T cell reception was OK. Back-in site was large enough for our 40 ft fifth wheel, and did not have to unhitch. No trees for shade, but had a picnic table and a fire pit. Reasonable rates for what you get. We camped at Bear Creek Lake Park, Indian Paintbrush Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sierra Village Lodge and RV Park, Taos, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

A run-down RV park that needs upgrading, but there were not many options this close to Taos. Looks like a junk yard when you drive in but gets a little better once you cross the bridge and enter the park. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. Sites 1 & 2 are just off to the left as you enter and are on a little creek and the most private. We were in site #1 which was plenty big for our 40 ft 5th wheel and truck. No AT&T cell service and the wifi was very weak and spotty. Very low water pressure; had to fill fresh water tank periodically and use the coach's water pump. Too bad it hasn't had any upkeep in years. This could be a beautiful RV park given the surroundings and setting. We camped at Sierra Village Lodge and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Pontchartrain Landing for 5 days for the 2018 New Orleans Jazz Festival. The location was easy to get to from I-10 coming from the east, since we avoided towing our 5th wheel through downtown New Orleans traffic. Agree with other reviewers about the potholes on France Road approaching the site, but OK if you go slow, and not that different from the poor condition of many other streets in this city. Check-in was easy and efficient. The restaurant and bar, with live music almost every night, were big pluses for this resort. Pool and hot tub were clean. We were in site 122 near the entrance, and the internet signal was OK - too slow for streaming movies, but pretty reliable. For the $90/night price we paid, I would expect better. The roads and sites in the resort are all gravel, and a little dusty. Many of the palm trees looked dead. Not sure if this was because of earlier flooding in the area, or just lack of upkeep of the landscaping. Overall, I rate this campground 8; would be a 9 or 10 if not so pricey and the roads/pads were paved. I'd stay here again if I could get a better deal on the daily rate. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Fifth Wheel.
