Scandia RV & Mobile Park, Bend, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

I had made a reservation a month earlier and they were having trouble finding it. It turned out they had given me a not so good spot. It looked out over the maintenance building which had trucks and 4 wheelers going in and out all day. Also people are walking right alongside the trailer all the time day and night and kids are riding their bikes right by our front door. I feared for my safety going out my door. There is a laundry, in fact there are 2 laundries. Public bathrooms and showers are located in 2 seperate locations. A dog run, this is right alongside the entrance with no fence. In front of the office there are a lot of mailboxes. This is because most of the spots here are permanent residents. Also be aware that I was charged a 12.2% hotel tax that is not reflected in the nightly rate. All the services were shared with the space next door. They got the 30 amp connection and I had the 50 amp connection. I doubt if we actually needed our rated current that the pole could supply it. We also shared the same water. If both of us were using the water then there was barely any volume or pressure. We camped at Scandia RV & Mobile Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bend has lots of breweries. There is shopping that any large city has. Costco is across town and doesn't have diesel. Fred Meyer has diesel and is about the best price.

Mtn. View RV (formerly Mtn. View Holiday Trav-L-Park), Baker City, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is a RV park hidden behind a mobile home park. The sites are comfortable but a little crowded. There is noise from the train that passes through at night blowing it's horn. We camped at Mtn. View RV (formerly Mtn. View Holiday Trav-L-Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Downtown Baker City has sculptures on all the corners. It is a nice walk. Be sure to visit Barley Brown's Pub and across the street their tap room for some good beer and food. One of the best breakfasts I have had was at Lone Pine Cafe. This is a must stop.

Grant County Fairgrounds RV Park, John Day, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The services here are excellent. The WiFi is fast and stable. The sites are very wide but all gravel and asphalt. Water pressure is good. Call and make a reservation a week before and they will hold a site for you. They don't charge your credit card and you can change the method of payment when you check in. Credit card, cash and check are accepted but there is an additional fee for credit card. No cable television and only 3 PBS station over the air. It's a short walk to downtown John Day. I highly recommend 1188 Brewery. Their beer and food is excellent. About an hour drive west on highway 26 is Thomas Condon Paleontology Center located in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. They have a good exhibit of fossils from the area dating back 40 million years. This is well worth the drive. While in the area visit the Blue Basin. We tried but the parking lot was full.

New Frontier RV Park & Campground, Presho, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice place to stay breaking up the trip between Rapid City and Sioux Falls. The people are friendly and willing to help. We stayed a week waiting for our reservation at Mount Rushmore. Most of the sites are pull through and easy to access. The WiFi is the fastest I have ever seen at a RV park the that is over 60 parks in the last 2 years. I got 57+Mbps down and 10+Mbps up. As another reviewer said the roads are all dirt but considering the towns roads are mostly dirt it can be expected. I would stay here again. We camped at New Frontier RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Not much to do in town, population 588. Take a day trip to Pierre for shopping and exploring. 2 restaurants in town both are rated in the top 10 for Presho. One restaurant is in the bowling alley and has "the best pizza in town". It is also the only place to buy pizza in town.

Adrian Municipal Park, Adrian, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

All the sites are grass and parking is on the grass. They have the second fastest WiFi I have found, 19.79/6.82 up/down, and that is out of over 50 campgrounds. While Adrian really doesn't have much to offer it is a good jumping off point to many other attractions. The campground is quiet, very reasonably priced, and it is easy to get to other places. I will definitely stay here again when I am passing through. We camped at Adrian Municipal Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sioux Falls has a wonderful walk downtown and along the river. It is also the location of Costco, Walmart, good local brewpubs, and good restaurants. Madison KOA, De Forest, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Roads are all dirt and the sites are close. The freeway is near and the noise is continuous all night. We arrived just after a heavy rain and there were many puddles. It rained later that night and the puddles got deeper. There was an especially annoying one right where my drivers door opened. It took a couple of days for the puddles to go away. We had a particularly annoying neighbor that had friends on the other side of us. They kept crossing our site going between our truck and the 5th wheel. All the roads there are one way and we were on the outermost loop which meant that it was a long trip to get out. They do not offer free ice but they sell ice for $3.00 for a 8 pound bag. They have propane. It cost 24.64 to fill a 30# tank. If I was in the Madison Wisconsin area I think I would find another place to stay that is more reasonable in price and provides more services. We camped at Madison KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lincoln Parish Park, Ruston, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest rv parks we have been to. The sites along the lake have been rebuilt and are what an rv site should be. The sites are staggered so that a lot of the sites look out over the water and into the trees and not onto the next site. The sites to pick are 13 through 28. All of these are back in sites. A nice pull through site is number 24 which is mostly straight. Most mornings you will see squirrels running around gathering food and playing. Then come the line of ducks headed from the lake to the forest to eat and generally socialize. There is a paved walking/bicycle path around the lake with docks scattered along the path. If you go around the lake to the left, counter clockwise, you will walk around a cove and the next finger is where the picnic area is. Continuing on around that finger and the next cove you will come to the recreation area. There you can get a kayak, swim on the beach, or launch your own non-gas powered boat. No gas motors are allowed on the lake. There are also some group picnic shelters and a big playground. The beach has a lifeguard during the day. We camped at Lincoln Parish Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lakeside RV Park, Livingston, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

On May 30, 2019 we stayed at Lakeside RV Park for 14 days. Sewer is in the middle of the site. It is raised a little more than normal but easily accessible. The slight rise made for a efficient gas trap. Standard power pole with the power at the top and the water at the bottom. Plenty of room for the surge suppressor to hang without touching the ground. The roads are all concrete and plenty wide enough for any rigs. The turns are widened and free of obstructions. To get to our site we drove past our site to the end of the road where there is a turnaround and then came back to our site. This allowed us to back into our site and when we leave we will be able to just head out. In the main building there is a laundry. The washers, driers, and 2 large capacity washers are $1.50. In the center of the room is a table to fold clothes on. The restrooms are also located in the same building. As we found out during a thunderstorm, the women's restroom is the shelter in case of a tornado. Both facilities have showers with benches. There are 3 toilet stalls in the men's bathroom and 5 in the women's bathroom, the men also have 2 urinals. There are 4 showers in each facility. This might be crowded in the morning when all 143 sites are filled. At the end of the main building is the pool area. There is a covered area to relax out of the sun while the kids play. The pool is well maintained and even though I generally don't like using pools this one looked inviting. Continuing on around the main office building you come to the office where you check in. Even there they have made it inviting by providing a place to hang out. During the tornado warning half the people stayed there and the other half stayed in the women's restroom. They also sell propane on site. Across the road from the pool there are 2 large steel buildings. They are also building another steel building cover for the playground. It is nice to see a RV park that is striving to improve their facilities. The smaller one of the two buildings houses the Campers Lounge. There is a television with some nice overstuffed chairs. Some are reclining chairs. I would stay here again. We camped at Lakeside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There is not much in Livingston. The nearest Walmart is in Walker and there is a Costco in Baton Rouge on this side of the river. We ate breakfast at Down Home Cafe and the food was good. Baton Rouge is not to long of a trip and they have some museums. We also visited the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum in Madisonville. It had a lot of the history of the shipping in the area.

Katy Lake RV Resort, Katy, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest RV parks that we have stayed at. The cost was reasonable and the people were nice. They have not one but two ice machines. The two ice machines may not seem like a big deal but I personally really appreciate free ice on demand. So far out of 40+ rv parks that we have stayed at in the last year, yes year, only 3 have had ice machines. RV parks if I stay at a motel 6 they have a ice machine, why is this so hard for rv parks to do???? Some of the other nice things are actual working WiFi that is equal to what you would get at home. Also you are allowed to wash your vehicles, my truck and trailer really needed it. I do not like using the wash services as they use a power washer that is very hard on your vehicles. Mondays they have a drawing for a free pizza. For more information check out their calendar. On Saturday mornings at 8:00am they have free donuts and coffee in the activity center, actually they always have free coffee. We were there during thunderstorms and felt that the chances of being flooded were rare. There were some sites that had water puddle in them mostly along the west side of the lake. Hopefully the resort will correct the drainage issues. We decided to barbeque using the barbeques next to the pool. After having trouble lighting either one I was finally able to get one lit but it was very slow to heat so I just gave up on it. While these are nice barbeques they need some maintenance done on them. I reported this to the office and they said they would have someone look it it. When we travel through this area again we will definitely stop in. If you are in the area you will not be disappointed. We camped at Katy Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Junction/North Llano River RV Park, Junction, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week to get ready to head on down to New Braunfels, our next stop. The place is right along the river. Most of the permanent residents are located along the bridge going over the river. A lot of the sites had a patio and table but ours did not! THe WiFi would run for a minute then shut down for a couple of minutes. The cable TV was just a cable stapled to the post the power was on. The signal was bad to the point most stations were not watchable. There is no OTA TV available. If you have Verizon you will have no service (it displayed a 1x which is the lowest level of service Verizon has). We could not receive any phone calls. I would not stay here again mostly due to the poor WiFi, TV and cell phone service. We camped at Junction/North Llano River RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park), Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week in April 2019. The RV park is located about a mile west of Deming on a dead end road. We arrived on a Thursday the wind was blowing 30 mph but we missed the 60 mph winds the day before. The wind was blowing most every day starting about noon. The whole area is covered in pea gravel no grass at all. There used to be some trees but most of them have been cut down with the stumps sticking up about 4 feet. The roads are wide and the spots are pull through. There is a building separate from the office in the middle of the park that housed the laundry, gym, recreation hall, bathrooms, showers, pool, and pay phone (I haven't seen a pay phone for a long time). The only thing we used was the laundry which was clean and the machines all worked. The hookups were conveniently placed and I needed only one section of sewer hose to make my hookup. There is no cable TV but OTA (over the air) was good with all the major networks. WiFi is limited to 300mb per day. For us this is unacceptable and after the first day it quit working and I didn't bother trying to fix it. The freeway is close by with the railroad on the other side. The noise from the freeway was constant all day but when the traffic on the freeway died down, about 2am, the trains start coming through every 10 minutes blowing their horns. We did not get a peaceful nights sleep while there. This place reminds me of the 1990 song Signs by Tesla, "Signs signs Everywhere there's signs". This just seemed to give out a bad vibe. While there is nothing specific it just didn't seem "friendly" and the poor WiFi and noise at night means I will not be staying here again. We camped at 81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Desert Trails RV Park (40+ park), Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

March 2019 we stayed for a month while we got ready for our 2019 trip. This place is very active with the guests. There is a weekly meeting on Mondays to discuss what has happened in the last week and what is scheduled for the coming week. They not only discuss the RV park but what is happening in town and the surrounding area. Most days there are food trucks in case you don't want to cook. The sites are in good condition and are graveled. There was only 50 amp available at our site. The sewer had an angled hookup and was uphill from my dump location. The roads were being repaved when we were there. They have local entertainment on Friday nights and there are many group dinners. There is a gym, library, meeting hall, wood shop, pool room, exercise room, heated swimming pool, and craft building. The people are friendly and most are staying for a month or more during the winter. Summer the park is quite empty and reservations are not needed as they post a list of the spaces that are open. We will be staying here again next winter. We did have trouble pulling in to our spot like we wanted to as the roads and trees alongside wouldn't allow me to cut in. As in 99% of all RV parks the WiFi has poor performance. Summer time you need to watch out for the snakes and always carry a flashlight at night so you can see the snakes. We camped at Desert Trails RV Park (40+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Quail Ridge RV Park, Mayer, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a month in February 2018. It was cold and snowy. To make matters worse our propane heater went out and so we could only use electric heat. If you are staying for a month then you pay for electricity and our bill was over $125. With that said the owners were nice and during the storm they plowed the roads. The laundry was OK. One of the 2 dryers didn't dry very well and we reported this on two separate occasions. They said they fixed it but never offered to refund monies and never put an "out of order" sign up. They also raised the rate of the laundry during our stay, would have been easier to take if the dryers were all working. After the snow was gone and the ground had dried up the owner dragged the roads for most of a full day. This stirred up a lot of dust covering everything. There really isn't much the RV park has to offer besides price. We camped at Quail Ridge RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
