Spokane KOA, Spokane Valley, Washington

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Older well maintained park. Gravel roads and sites with mature shade trees. Grass was watered, green and mowed. Sites are KOA close, except in the more expensive deluxe sites that include patio and fire pit. Utilities are convenient and cable worked well. No need for Wi-Fi with Verizon. Shade trees are really nice in the summer heat. K9 Kamp is fairly large and well maintained. As others have mentioned the trains are close, loud and numerous. The sound of prosperity. Not a deal breaker for us. We enjoyed our stay and would return if in the area. We camped at Spokane KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Jim & Mary's RV Park, Missoula, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We have been all over the western US and Jim & Mary's remains one of our favorite parks. We will adjust our route to spend a night here. Very well maintained park and the staff are a delight. Its obvious they enjoy their jobs and take pride in their work. Taller rigs need to pay attention for limbs. Stay mid road, watch tight corners and you won't have any problems. Majority of sites are pull-through with level gravel. Roads are paved. Utilities are convenient. WiFi wasn't needed with Verizon. Good cable TV. Most sites are decorated with flowers and in our experience the grass is always green. We camped at Jim & Mary's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

After over 5,000 miles of travel our RV was a mess. Ran it, and truck, through the Exit 96 Shine RV wash. Both came out clean and shiny. Exit 96 Shine is just off the freeway and about a mile from Jim & Mary's. Wish we had one close to home.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park & Cabins, West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $82.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent location to access the west entrance to Yellowstone. Newer well maintained Park with paved roads and level gravel sites. Big park with both back-in and pull-through sites that will accommodate even the biggest rigs. Sites include a small paved patio with picnic table and grass area. Trees are still relatively young, but are starting to provide some shade. We had a back-in site adjacent to the forested area and the mosquitoes were horrible. We couldn't go outside without protection for even a minute. Swarms during all hours of the day. Worst I have seen outside of Alaska or directly adjacent water. Water connection was different than I had seen before. They provide an info sheet (with pics) that shows how to use it. Check-in was quick and easy, and staff were great, although the guy that cleans the restrooms got a little cranky because folks kept wanting to use them while he was working. But, what should you expect when you clean (and close) them at 8 am? Nice park, although a bit pricey. Not much you can do about the mosquitoes. Just be prepared! We camped at Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park & Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

Ponderosa Campground, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We felt fortunate to have a nice back-in site with a concrete pad. The roads are mostly gravel and it rained the day before so there was plenty of potholes and mud when we arrived. Access to our site was easy even though there was a mysterious (didn't move for three days and had no idea who it belonged to) pick-up partially blocking our access. Utility hook-up was straightforward even though the sewer connection is sunk into the ground. Cable was good, didn't need Wi-Fi and Verizon coverage was excellent. Park is in the right spot to enjoy all Cody has to offer and access the East side of Yellowstone. Walking around the park you'll quickly notice not all sites are equal and there are a wide range. Some are very close together (parking lot style) with nothing in between while others have grass areas and trees. We enjoyed our stay and when we return will cross our fingers that we get lucky again and have a decent site. We camped at Ponderosa Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Campground & RV Park, Buffalo, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nothing fancy just a nice easy access park with plenty of shade. Roads and sites are gravel. Didn't quite understand the site numbering system or utility design, but it wasn't a problem. Easy access to utilities, that worked fine, but our neighbor's was right outside our door. Small grass areas between most sites. Nice office area with laundry and novelty shop. Fenced dog area. Cable worked well and no need for Wi-Fi. Owners were very attentive and helpful. Will stay again. We camped at Indian Campground & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Large well maintained park with lots of open space. Very pretty setting with open views and mostly shaded sites. Know what you're looking for before making your reservation. If you're the social type and want TV reception the Main Camp and Base Camp are your best options. If you like to be under the trees without TV and tough satellite conditions then the Island or Ranch Camp will make you happy. Lower Ranch Camp and Line Camp have wide open satellite. Most sites are level gravel. We were in 248 and while nicely isolated it has a 30' kind of level pad with an inclined approach. It took a little extra work to get level and we couldn't open our awning because of a tree. Really nice and peaceful once we got set up. Roads are gravel and well maintained. No designated dog areas and rules require they be leashed. Mine "slipped" his leash and had good romps in the big open areas behind Island Camp. Verizon was three bars and we had 4G. Wi-Fi is only available at the store. Staff is professional, but in our experience don't go out of their way to be welcoming or helpful. Enjoyed our stay and will return. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We saw lots of buffalo on Hwy 87 between Wind Cave NP and Custer State Park. Enjoyed Wind Cave. Badland NP is a reasonable drive and be sure and stop at Wall Drug. Miner Brewing in Hill City offers great craft brews and atmosphere. Wonderful area to spend a week!

BJ's Campground, Lusk, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

If I could give more stars for service and cleanliness I would! Small park in a residential area that is a gem. Owner is very attentive and will direct you to your site, help with hook-up and make sure everybody is comfortable before meeting you in the office for payment. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. After learning our next stop is the Black Hills she provided several pamphlets, maps and advice on how to have the best experience possible. Park roads and sites are compact gravel. Well kept grass area between sites and most have a covered picnic table. Utilities are mid site and worked well. Really a nice experience from reservation to departure. If we are ever even close to Lusk we will be back! Just minutes to downtown Lusk. Quaint and quiet rural community with just two traffic signals. We camped at BJ's Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Winding River RV Resort, Grand Lake, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

With Rocky Mountain NP in your front yard, and the Arapaho NF in your backyard, how can you go wrong? Well managed and family oriented. Beautiful rustic park with a lot to enjoy. Sites vary from full hook-up to no utilities. Neighbors can be close or along way away. Many sites have corrals so you can bring your own four-legged transportation. Don't have your own? No problem. WRR offers several trail rides daily for all ages. I hadn't been on the back of a horse for over 50-years and had a blast. Roads are gravel and sites are mostly level gravel and dirt. Five minutes to RMNP North entrance and 10 minutes to historic Grand Lake. Small store on site with essentials. Good Verizon service, both phone and data. Didn't need to use Wi-Fi. Enjoyed our stay! Glenwood Springs West / Colorado River KOA, Silt, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The nicest KOA we have visited. Well maintained, spacious, friendly and efficient staff, beautiful setting awesome fenced dog area. This park has it all. Generally not a KOA fan, but if they were all like this one, we would be regulars. Roads are well graded gravel. Sites are level gravel with convenient utilities. Cable was good, Verizon coverage was good. Didn't need Wi-Fi for internet access. Plenty of space between sites. Trees are young so very little shade. Beautiful setting along the Colorado River. Close and easy access to Glenwood Springs. Noise from I-70 was not bothersome. Recommend this KOA and would definitely stay here again. Archview RV Resort & Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Best full-hookup access to Arches and Canyonlands NPs. Convenient to both parks and just 8 miles from Moab. Adjacent to the highway, but traffic is light at night and noise wasn't a bother. Mostly gravel (roads and sites) that all run together. A little dusty, but not a problem. Sites are close together with no buffer. Designated dog area was overgrown and not fully fenced. Lots of ATVs and off-road vehicles, but they were polite about noise and dust. They did however spill out into the road areas making for a tight fit in some locations. Cable was good, Wi-Fi was also good, but you have to subscribe (free). Utilities are convenient and sites are mostly level. Overall a good place to stay if you're wanting quick and easy access to the NPs. We camped at Archview RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Location, location, location. Full-hookups close to Monument Valley. Asphalt roads with gravel sites. Many are tiered pull-thoughts and are tight for full-size coaches. We were in a back-up that was not level (both back to front and side to side). Took three attempts and lots of blocks to get level. To get level the slide out was in a small tree. Lots of wind and red dust everywhere. Feral cats and stray dogs frequent the park. Wi-Fi was slow and unreliable. Sewer connection is in back of site. It was a stretch with 20' hose and very little fall from coach. Cell service (Verizon) was very spotty. Nearby arch is pretty cool. Best option in the area, but expensive for what you get. IMO "Monument Valley" is over rated. Road is very dusty and rough, and the folks taking the tours in open vehicles are continuously sucking dust. Spend a day and move on. Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Close and easy access to park's shuttle service. Asphalt site with convenient utilities. Cable was a surprise. Staff were friendly and helpful. No dog run or designated area. Nearby paths are nice for dog walks, but keep an eye out for deer and elk. Only hook-up hose when you can keep an eye on it. Ravens will poke holes in it if left unattended. Walking distance to general store. Very slow internet service (3G) with Verizon. Enjoyed our stay even though it snowed 3" on May 22nd. Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

A bit primitive, but when you're in this part of the country you have to keep things in perspective. Closest full hook-up facility we could find to the Grand Canyon's North rim. Located on a Forest Service road that can be pretty sloppy if it rains or snows. Not much the owners can do the FS controls the road's condition. We were here the third week in May and had snow two out of a there night stay. There was over 7" on the ground the last morning we were there. Staff was very attentive and helpful loaning a ladder so we could clear slideouts of snow. Utilities were convenient and worked fine. We had good cell and okay internet with Verizon. Make sure you have a way to keep your sewer hose OFF the ground (County code). Snow was beautiful and added to our adventure, muddy road not so much. About a 45 minute drive to the North Rim entrance. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We camped at Kaibab CampeRVillage in a Fifth Wheel.

Panguitch KOA, Panguitch, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Typical KOA. Gravel/dirt roads and sites that in many cases are very close. Our slide out was about 3' to 4' from our neighbor's. Roads were muddy when it rained. I don't mind gravel roads, but hate tracking mud into the coach because it rained. Small off leash dog area in a shaded section was big enough for the pooch to stretch his legs. Utilities are located mid site and everything worked fine. Site was level and just long enough for our 30' 5th wheel. Parking for tow vehicle was nearby and convenient. Hosts were very pleasant and helpful. We would stay again. We camped at Panguitch KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

WillowWind RV Park, Hurricane, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Nicely maintained park. Roads are paved and all sites have a concrete pad. Some have gravel between sites and others have grass. Lots of trees providing plenty of shade and wind buffer. We were in site 33 which has about 2% slope toward the street. Not a problem for our 5th wheel, but watched a couple of motorhomes struggle with the slope in adjacent sites. They eventually moved to other flatter sites. Next guys in with motorhomes set up quick and easy. Go figure! Easy and scenic 35 minute drive to the Zion NP entrance. Shopping, fuel, resturants nearby. Staff was great. Off leash dog area is small and oddly shaped, not much room to romp. Great laundry facility. Wi-Fi is good with few drops and the cable tv worked well. Cable service is in the rear of the site and required about 35' of cable. Watch out for the drainage dip at the main entrance. Hit it too fast and it will rock your world! Overall we enjoyed our stay and recommend WillowWind RV. We camped at WillowWind RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
