About MangoandJune

We are Russ and Michelle, aka Mango and June. We are a retired couple traveling several months a year in our 32 ft Class C motor home. What makes a good campground for us is a strong AT&T or T-Mobile signal, well kept grounds, a level site and a rate that reflects the amenities provided. We are members of Passport America, Good Sam and KOA.

Myakka River State Park, Sarasota, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 5 nights in Oct 2019. We were in Palmetto Ridge, the newest loop and had full hookups. Our site was gravel, mostly level, had a picnic table and fire ring. Nice privacy with mature foliage surrounding. This is a great campground for walking, hiking, running, biking. Showers nearby and kept very clean. Washer & dryer in the same building, not sure of the cost since no sign posted. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Motorhome.

Choke Canyon State Park (Calliham Unit), Three Rivers, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park with tons of wildlife. If you like to watch deer roam freely, this is the spot for you. Also saw wild hogs near the boat ramp. We had the place mostly to ourselves (late June) so very quiet. The park ranger drove through often. Our site was gravel, had a covered picnic table area on a cement slab, some shade. We were fairly close to the bathhouse. Cell reception (AT&T and T-Mobile) very spotty. This park is quite remote with no stores nearby so make sure you're well stocked before settling in. Quite remote with nothing nearby. We camped at Choke Canyon State Park (Calliham Unit) in a Motorhome.

Goose Island State Park, Rockport, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects 50% off second night with Texas state park pass. Park was mostly deserted (late June) so it was very quiet. The showers were newer, ceramic tiled, clean and good water pressure. My only complaint here was the grass needed to be mowed! Our outdoor rug didn't want to lay flat cause the grass was so tall. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Braunig Lake RV Resort, Elmendorf, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Great location for visiting the San Antonio area (about a 15 minute drive). A bonus was the Passport America rate for all 5 nights there. This park is well-run with very friendly staff. Escort to the site, back-in assistance, able to receive Amazon packages (and received a call when it arrived), full hookups including cable. Cement site plus you also get the cement site next to you for your toad. Nice cement patio. Laundry available on each 'street.' Very clean, new machines, $2 to dry (60 minutes), credit card only. Yeah, no quarters needed. Lots of seasonal and permanents here but it is a quiet park. We camped at Braunig Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Bolivar Peninsula RV Park, Crystal Beach, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects Passport America discount. This is a nice little park in Crystal Beach, TX. We needed a couple of down days and the discount made this a perfect choice. There are permanent residents here, but units are well maintained and all in one area. The office person was very friendly and gave recommendations on restaurants and shopping. Onsite laundry, locked bathhouse (we didn't need), gravel site, full hookups, picnic table on small cement slab. Grounds are kept nice and it was quiet. Our site was right on the lake, right behind the office. Fire ring shared with the next site. We camped at Bolivar Peninsula RV Park in a Motorhome.

Maxie's Campground, Broussard, Louisiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We chose this park for it's proximity to Avery Island so we could take the Tabasco tour. The rate reflects 50% off for Passport America. Without the discount, we probably wouldn't have stayed here. This is a small park with lots of older model campers that appear to be long term residents. While they are not well maintained, residents were very quiet and kept to themselves. We were able to choose our spot. Full hookups, good working order. Park is located directly off 90West but luckily traffic noise was minimal at night. The manager was friendly and recommended a good local restaurant. We camped at Maxie's Campground in a Motorhome.

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large state park with several loops, some offer privacy and others are wide open spaces. At check-in, we were encouraged to drive thru the park and pick out several spots. Then when you return to the office, you choices are matched with availability. We did like this feature. The bathhouse buildings are brick and look brand new. We did not use or explore them. Strong AT&T signal and marginal T-Mobile. This park has a waterpark and swimming pool but neither are included in your camping fee. $6 per person per day (adult) is a bit steep to cool off. There was a lifeguard on duty at the pool, probably more for checking for wristbands than watching swimmers. Park is located about 2 miles from the Silver Slipper Casino and directly across from the gulf. There is a gate at the front that is down during the day but wide open at night - this seemed a bit backwards. Full hookups, good water pressure. We camped at Buccaneer State Park in a Motorhome.

Meaher State Park, Spanish Fort, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice state park in a good location. Our site (#23) backed up to the water (Blakely River). All sites are paved, have patios, grill and full hookups. Good T-mobile and AT&T cell service. Bathhouses are very clean. The employees at the entrance are super friendly. We were late check-in but they called us several hours before to provide the gate code. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

Perry KOA, Perry, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay here and it did not disappoint. We requested a pull-thru shady site near the pool. #13 was perfect. Fast efficient check-in with very cheerful woman. Nice selection of dvd movies for rent ($1) in the office. Very good AT&T and T-Mobile reception, few tv channels. This park is very quiet and we slept great. The pool was clean and refreshing. The owners are working on improvements and it shows. This is a great stopping point for us as we enter and leave home (central Florida). We'll be anxious to see the changes on our next visit. We camped at Perry KOA in a Motorhome.

Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground), Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a lovely campground in Hot Springs National Park. Although it's first come, first served, we were able to easily secure a site (late Sept). Our site was a concrete pad, very level (not always a given with concrete for some reason). Our site backed up to the stream. Sites are private with foliage separating. Full hookups, good T-Mobile and AT&T cell coverage. We didn't watch TV so unsure of over-the-air channel availability. We highly recommend this campground. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Perry KOA, Perry, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stop for us but we would definitely stay here again. New owners are energizing this campground. Gravel site was level, pull-thru, full hook-ups, combination of paved and gravel roads, easy to navigate with our 32 ft Class C. After several hours on the road, we spent the afternoon in the clean solar heated pool. Very enjoyable. No fire ring -might be a local ordinance prohibiting? We camped at Perry KOA in a Motorhome.

Oklahoma City East KOA, Choctaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here two nights. Our site (#32) was in a newer area with asphalt, full hook-ups. No cable in this part of the park yet but that wasn't a concern. It was very quiet here. Roads are easy to navigate. Strong T-Mobile and AT&T cell signals. Check-in was easy, the man who waited on us explained all the benefits of the Kard and we joined. We haven't stayed at KOA's because they are usually a little more in price than we spend but may consider them now that we can get 10% off. We would stay here again. Overall Rating:

We aren't really 'rv resort' people but stayed here to visit a friend who lives nearby. Paved roads, paved level sites. Clean laundromat. Gated park in a high traffic area. The road noise was very loud at night; we didn't sleep well here. Full hook-ups, composite picnic table, fire pit. We camped at Twin Fountains RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a very clean, well managed park. Conveniently located right off 49 near the 44 junction. Even though it was close to the highway, you couldn't really hear the road noise. Sites are gravel but level, full hook-ups plus cable. Clean laundromat (in the same building as the office). 4 sets of washer/dryers, $1.75/$1.25 per load. Excellent T-Mobile and AT&T cell reception. No fire pits or picnic tables. Located directly across from their RV sales/service center. Convenient to shopping in Carthage (about 3 miles), and easy access to Joplin.
