Michigamme Shores Campground, Michigamme, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here out of necessity - we got rained out of another campground and decided to head toward our next reserved spot. This campground happened to be at the halfway point. We showed up at 7:50PM on July 4 and they had 1 site available due to cancelation. Lucky us - the park was great! Beautiful location on Lake Michigamme. If you have kids, try to get a spot down by the water - lots of action down there. If you don't have kids, the sites by the park entrance are quiet and laid-back. We did not notice excessive noise from the highway, and the train only came through 3 times in two days, always during daylight hours. Actually, the train was pretty cool. Lots of water rentals at the camp store - we rented a paddle boat for an hour. Our site was level with great shade and nice space around us. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Michigamme Shores Campground in a Motorhome.

Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park / Union Bay Campground, Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here over July 4th holiday so park was at max capacity. The campsites are VERY close together and navigating larger motorhomes could be a challenge. We were able to get our 31' Class C around pretty well, but noticed that we were one of the larger motorhomes - most people had trailers. Sites vary a lot; some are level, some are extremely unlevel. We needed an extension cord to get to the electric hookup. Having no water hookup was annoying, but we knew it when we made the reservation. The sites are grass/dirt and, if it rains, your site might be underwater. We had a similar situation to the previous reviewer - we left due to excessive rain and worries about getting stuck. We stayed 2 nights then left our site for the day and drove our motorhome to the other side of the park (25 miles). Thank goodness we did. When we came back, it had rained about 2 inches in 2 hours - our rig would have been stuck. We were afraid to pull into our spot so we decided to head down the road to Lake Michigamme for the next 2 nights. The park staff were very understanding, and they refunded our unused final 2 nights. As the previous reviewer said, a simple gravel path at each site would do wonders for the traction and usability when it rains. The park itself is beautiful, and the hiking is rugged and rustic. We camped at Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park / Union Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Wild West Campground & Corral, Amherst, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here on July 1 - we just needed a 1 night stop on our way to UP Michigan. Most places required a 2-night minimum, but this park did not. Glad we stayed here. The horse corral was beautiful. The road into the park is around 0.75 miles of sand/gravel combo, so if you aren't comfortable with that driving surface then proceed with caution. The sites were level, shady, and spacious. Park wasn't crowded, even near July 4th, and several sites appeared to have seasonal occupants. We were very happy with this park, and wished we had more than one night here. Horseback riding is available as well. Showers and bathrooms were very clean, and the owner was very helpful and pleasant. Dump station was clean and easily accessible. We camped at Wild West Campground & Corral in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Great experience at this quaint little park. Just needed a place for a 0ne-night stopover, but we were very happy with this campground. Level sites with space, great view of the lake. Site was full hookup. Electric and sewer were at the rear of the site, water was in the middle. Park was clean and well-maintained, staff was helpful and pleasant. Very enjoyable stay. We camped at D & W Lake Camping and RV Park in a Motorhome.
