Byrd's Branch Campground, Elkin, North Carolina
Date of Stay:
July, 2018 -
$35.00
Overall Rating:
We stayed here for 5 nights and would return. We thought that our site, #7, was the best one in the campground: large and private with lots of trees. The friendly owners have excellent lists of all local restaurants and hiking trails and suggestions for activities. We walked to Carter Falls and Grassy Creek Winery and recommend both. Elkin is a fun town to visit. Don't miss the food at the brew pub 222 Main. We camped at Byrd's Branch Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
Grassy Creek Winery has a nice wine tasting for $8 as well as North Carolina-made crackers, cheeses, and chocolates for sale. Easy walk from the campground.

Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground, Fancy Gap, Virginia
Date of Stay:
July, 2018 -
$35.00
Overall Rating:
A gem located right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Small and quiet and private. Great location for exploring both north and south along the Parkway. The friendly owner helps new arrivals park their rigs. We stayed for 9 nights and would stay here again. We camped at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
Lots of good hiking trails along the Parkway. Don't miss the Blue Ridge Music Center. We enjoyed good barbecue in Galax, a cute little town. Many visitors enjoy Mabry Mill. Interesting history of the building of the Blue Ridge Parkway at Cumberland Knob.
