Crawford Notch State Park, Dry River Campground, Hart's Location, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Dry River CG is part of the Crawford Notch State Park in the White Mountains of NH. This SP is my favorite thus far for this year travels! There are no services (water, power, sewer,) but there are water spigots throughout the CG, flush toilets and hot showers (coin operated) in the bathhouse, and firewood for sale that they deliver to your site. Also, they have washers and dryers for use at $1.00 per wash and $1.00 per dry! They even put a space heater in the womens (not sure for the men) bathroom. Major bonus! You will not have any cell service in the CG, but travel 8 miles to Bartlett and you will be connected. This CG is conveniently located to several great hikes, beautiful drives, and great restaurants. I only booked one week and wished I had booked two! We camped at Crawford Notch State Park, Dry River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Maplewoods Campground, Johnson, Vermont

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Maplewoods CG has a great view of the mountains! I was parked in the second row, so I can't speak for those further back. This was the most expensive campground I stayed in for this years travels and was quite surprised when I read the paperwork after checking in stating if you use your AC or a space heater there will be an additional charge of $3.00 a day. Also, they wanted to charge for the WIFI that doesn't reach any distance. There are two bathhouses with flush toilets, but the showers are coin operated. There is a laundry facility as well, I didn't use it so I can't tell you how much it cost. There is NO privacy what so ever in the CG, but the seasonal campers seemed nice enough. The CG is very conveniently located for all of the "tourist" spots, Stowe, Smugglers Notch, etc... and only an hour away from Burlington. A plus for me was being able to have packages shipped to their address! We camped at Maplewoods Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Carmi State Park, Enosburg Falls, Vermont

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This State campground is great, sites have a lot of room, nice large fire pit, and picnic table. There is a bathhouse with flush toilets and coin showers, but NO hot water from the sinks. The spot I reserved was right on the water and the views were excellent. This campground has cabins and lean-tos for rent as well as a regular site. They have hardwood firewood for sale for $6.00 a bunch and it burns great. So, why only a nine? No hot water in the bathhouse sinks, water had to be boiled for everything, including washing my face. There were no outlets in the bathhouse either for using a blow dryer. (It was pretty cold and wet hair made it worse.) I knew I wouldn't have cell service at the campground, but neither did the small towns around the campground. I found service when I got close to Johnson, VT and I have Verizon. Would I stay here again? Absolutely! There are some GREAT hikes really close by and the small towns were so inviting. We camped at Lake Carmi State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Harrington Family Campground & RV Park, Harrington, Prince Edward Island

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

The gentleman who owns the place spoke very broken English, he is from Iraq. He first told me the site was $14.00 CA per night, when I added it up for my two-week stay he changed his mind and said $17.50, then he said to add 5% tax. Sales tax in NB, PEI, and NS is 15%, I gladly added 5%. You also have to pay in cash. He then told me to park in a spot with no sewer, "You can hook-up and drive across to another site to dump." Ummm, NO! I informed him I paid for full hook-up and that's what I was getting. If you want to have WIFI you will need to be parked close to the office, also, the WIFI went down every day from 0900 to 1800, he will tell you there is nothing wrong with it and no one else has complained. The only reason I remained at this campground was the owner honored the PA for the whole stay. Every other CG would give you a discount for one night only. My two-week stay cost under $200 US. We camped at Harrington Family Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camping by the Bay, Black Point, New Brunswick

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This park is off the beaten path and right on the water. The sites on the water are taken by seasonal campers, there was only one site available which was right next to the boat launch, no shade, and no sewer. I ended up parking up behind the office. These spaces are VERY close to each other but have full hook-ups. When I set up my clam it was almost touching the camper next to me, luckily they were seasonal also and only there a couple of days during my two-week stay. One evening a couple who backed in next to me stayed outside until 0100 talking and laughing, they were so close to my camper I could have reached out a window and touched them. There are a washer and dryer available for $1.50 each (Canadian) along with a flush toilet and shower. (Free) I was able to use Passport America for the stay and got it for $17.00 CA a night, which is very unusual. Most places will only honor PA for one night, not the whole stay. Basically, my two-weeks stay cost $183.00 US. Not a bad deal and the owners are very nice and helpful! We camped at Camping by the Bay in a Travel Trailer.

Big Eddy Campground, Greenville, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Big Eddy's CG is a primitive campground situated on the Penobscot River. There are several water spigots to fill up with water and there is electricity in the office if you need to charge up your phone. Also, the office has wifi so you can check your email or receive text messages. There are two showers available for use and cost $1.50. The fishing on Penobscot River is excellent and I learned how to fly fish during my stay. There is excellent hiking all around as well. The Golden Road is a rough road whether you are coming from Greenville or Millinocket, so please take your time and make sure you have all of your provisions as you don't want to venture down this road more than you have to. I will have to say I was more relaxed at this campground than I have been in a long time, I finished five books during my two-week stay. There are books and puzzles you may borrow in the office, along with organic coffee for purchase every morning. Firewood is also available for purchase. We camped at Big Eddy Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lewey Lake, Lake Pleasant, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Lewey Lake CG is a state-run CG. The campground is gorgeous, sites are level, nice large cement fire pit, and picnic table. There was enough space for my Pavillion Clam to be set up and the sites are well shaded. I was in site 201 towards the back and across from the brook that sounded wonderful! You will NOT have any cell service while in the park, and you will have to drive to the towns of Speculator or Indian Lake before you will get signal. (I have Verizon.) The bathrooms are very nice and clean, showers are individual showers and well kept. There are 215 sites and I had the park basically to myself until Memorial weekend. From Thursday thru Sunday the park was completely full, Monday everyone was gone and I had it all to myself again. There are a few hiking trails straight out of the park with some nice inclines. Be sure to pick-up your firewood before you get to the park as the price for a bag of wood in the park is $9.00. OUCH! Now, why did I give the park a satisfactory rating? Because of the price. $25.00 a night, no matter how long you stay, and no services. Luckily I have a suitcase solar panel that I can plug in to keep the batteries charged, but that also meant I had to stay around the site so I could move the panels with the sun. There are plenty of water faucets, you won't have to walk far to fill your jugs. It is a beautiful park, and I highly recommend it, I just feel it is too expensive for not having any services. We camped at Lewey Lake in a Travel Trailer.

All Adventures Campground Inc, Friendship, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I had reservations at another park. When I pulled into the park, no one was there and a for sale sign was posted on the road. I called All Adventure. They weren't opening until May 18th, it was May 4th, but said they would turn the water on for me. The owners are super friendly and helpful and said everyone that comes to the park is like family. There are a lot of seasonal RV's, all of them very well kept, and their owners were getting them ready for the summer. I had the opportunity to meet several of them, and I was treated like family and have made new friends for life. This is a great place to park for a while and explore the western side of New York! The owners of the park take excellent care of the grounds and have several activities planned during the summer for the children. They don't take credit cards so make sure you have cash or a check to pay for your stay. They do offer discounts for monthly stays. We camped at All Adventures Campground Inc in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a BBQ trailer within walking distance, laundry mat just around the corner and a "convenience" store where you can buy everything from gas to deli meats, beer, fried chicken, etc. The town of Olean is just down the road where there are grocery stores, Wal-Mart, and several restaurants to choose from.
