Cedar Ridge COE, Lawrence, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park with multiple loops around the lake area. We were in Cedar Ridge. Our site was a pull through with water and electric. Site was just barely long enough for rig and toad. Campground needed more maintenance than it was getting—grass needed mowing, museum was closed. High water closed some roads. Bathrooms were quite old and need repair. There was laundry available and it was clean and cheap. Lawrence is about 25 minutes and Topeka about 30. We camped at Cedar Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Bucksaw Campground COE, Clinton, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Another good COE park, but seemed to be in the midst of renovation—and in need of additional renovation. We were in the A loop and had FHU, which was good because the shower house nearest us was closed. The site was gravel and crushed rock and was uneven, requiring the use of wood under our leveling pads. The site was also extremely close to the next one as that was how the sewer lines were laid out. No cell signal and 4 OTA tv channels. Small nature trail. There are boat ramps and a marina. This is primarily a campground for fishing/boating. Nearest town was 20 minutes away but had all services needed. We camped at Bucksaw Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Burchfield Branch Park COE, Adger, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Another excellent COE park. This park is best for those wanting to fish, but the campsites are fine. There are two sites—wooded area and waterfront. Sites have water and electricity. Bathrooms are clean and showers are clean, heated and plenty of hot water. Getting here is a stretch—the park is well over half an hour from any town. There was no cell signal at all in the campsite—five miles up the hill you could access cell. We camped at Burchfield Branch Park COE in a Motorhome.

Santee State Park, Santee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park with woods and water—this is a great park if you want to be on the water for fishing. We didn’t but it was still a nice park. The sites are gravel and mostly level, but we did have to block up our front wheels to get level. Sites have water and electric and there is a dump station. There are showers that were old but clean and with hot water. Bathrooms were ok but not serviced all that often—out of tp in one stall. Town with groceries and other services about 5 miles away. Good hiking/biking trail. Right next to Santee National Golf if you want to golf. We camped at Santee State Park in a Motorhome.

Spartanburg NE / Gaffney KOA, Gaffney, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We needed a place to stay while we attended Camp Freightliner and got service, and while we generally avoid KOA campgrounds, sometimes they come in handy. This was a very clean park with really helpful staff. It looks like they are adding sites and amenities, and they want to be a good campground. They have a pool (seasonal) and mini golf (also seasonal). They also have onsite laundry, propane and a store. There is WiFi, supposedly, but low speed unless you pay extra. Cable tv is free on site. We would stay again if in area. We camped at Spartanburg NE / Gaffney KOA in a Motorhome.

Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area, Fort McCoy, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is a fantastic park—FHU park with level paved pads and lots of room between sites. Good mix of sun and shade. All sites have fire put, grill, picnic table and patio area. Bathrooms are clean. Staff is always cleaning and available. There is a camp store by the springs. The Springs were great—clean, cool and fun. There is a very small town center with two restaurants. Two gas stations with convenience foods are in town as well. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Motorhome.

Lake Louisa State Park, Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is another excellent Florida state park. The sites are clean and well maintained. We did have to use external levelers in the back to get level, but only two inches. The bathrooms are sparkling clean, with good sized showers with hot water. Laundry facilities on site that take credit and work well. Lots of trails in the park and a good road for biking. Lakes with boat launches and boat rentals available. Very near all theme park attractions in Orlando. Quiet at night. We would definitely stay again. We camped at Lake Louisa State Park in a Motorhome.

Hillsborough River State Park, Thonotosassa, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Florida has some very nice state parks, and this is one of them. We are moving Fromm state park to state park for November and December, and we started at Hillsborough. There are two main camping loops, and the one we stayed in has more RVs, with more tents in the other loop (though plenty of spots for RVs in the other loop, and we will be in that loop in December). The sites are generally flat, with grass/dirt surfaces. The roads in the loops are crushed rock/gravel, and the park roads are asphalt and well maintained. The sites have water and electricity (30/50) and there is a dump station. The restrooms are cleaned and well maintained, and the showers had plenty of hot water. The park has a camp store with a grill/restaurant, and there is also a pool (did not use) and kayak/bike rentals. There is a kayak access to the river. The park is fairly quiet and there is an abundance of wildlife. There are good trails for hiking in the park. We camped at Hillsborough River State Park in a Motorhome.

Lake Tobesofkee Claystone Park, Macon, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Only stayed here two nights but if in the area would definitely stay here again. The park is very clean, with multiple campsites and other facilities (marina, beach, pavilion, picnic shelters, disc golf). The park is close to Macon, so there are lots of options if you need a city. The park is very quiet at night (at least while we were there) and there are lots of places to walk in the park, as well as bike. I imagine this may be a very different experience in the summer, but in the fall it was quite nice. We camped at Lake Tobesofkee Claystone Park in a Motorhome.

Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful state park with multiple sites, including some pull through and full hookup (though we had only water and 50 amp). There are multiple bathhouses with clean restrooms and showers, and some also have laundry machines. There are lots of trails in the park, which is on a coastal island, so the trails (and the park itself) is quite scenic. Park is easily accessible and is only a few minutes from Savannah. The park has an interpretive center and a shop/store/office. Groceries are only a few minutes away. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Cary State Forest, Bryceville, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I’m hesitant to write this review because I don’t want people to come here—we want this to ourselves. This is a small (7 sites) USDA campground. We have 50 amp and water—no sewer. Very quiet, very peaceful and very well maintained. This is NOT a site for someone who wants all the amenities, but it is a site for those who want quiet and beauty. There are trails in the forest area, and there are bike lanes on the highway by the park and a bike trail about 7 miles from the park. It is about 30 minutes to Jacksonville if you need a city, and a bit more to the coast. There is a campground host and park rangers. At night it is quiet (with the exception of trains on occasion) and dark—no artificial lighting. We camped at Cary State Forest in a Motorhome.

Gun Creek Campground - COE, Whittington, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Traveling through and needed a one night stay. We like COE parks in general and this was another nice one. There are a number of different loops in the park area, which is situated around Rend Lake. The closer you get to the lake, the less level the sites. We had a good and level site, with water, sewer and 50 amp. Nearing the end of the season, but still nice and green. Lots of outdoor activities, and a god size town only a few miles away. We would use again, and would like to try in the summer. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Motorhome.

Dam Complex Campgrounds COE, Iowa City, Iowa

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at the Tailwater West campground at the Dam Complex COE. The weather was a bit cool, and the water was a bit high on the river outflow from the dam. The campground, however, was excellent. We had water and 50 amp; there are also sites with sewer. The campground is not easy to get to from I-80, but it was nice once we were there. There are multiple camp sites as part of the Dam Complex. We would love to come back to this site in the summer, as they were getting near the end of the season when we were there. Iowa City is about 10 minutes away, with lots to do in the city. The campground has trails, fishing, picnic areas and a fossil gorge for exploration. We camped at Dam Complex Campgrounds COE in a Motorhome.

Land of Memories Campground, Mankato, Minnesota

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Needed a couple of nights in the Mankato area and decided to give Land of Memories a try. The site was closing for the season in a couple of days, but when we were there all was open. The park has greatly improved in the past few years with a new loop west of the main and older campground. No sewer or water, but 50 amp, very long and level sites, and easy in and out. Land of Memories is a city park with soccer fields, disc golf, river access and the PowWow grounds—a very popular park. The park does have a reputation for partying and loudness, but while we were there it was nice and quiet—of course, the fact that it started snowing the day we left may have had something to do with it. The city of Mankato is just a few minutes away for any needed supplies. We camped at Land of Memories Campground in a Motorhome.

Tiell park Campground (formerly St. James City Park Camp), Saint James, Minnesota

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We had beers staying at a CG in Madelia, about 15 minutes east of here. With weather forecasts calling for heavy rain and a flood watch, we moved here because the sites are concrete pads. We were only here 2 nights, but we are very happy with the campground. The sites, as noted, are concrete and level, with a mix of pull through and back-in. Sites have 50 amp, water and sewer. Recycling and trash dump at park. There are bathrooms as well, and a shelter. The campground is on the lakeshore—I imagine in the summer this is quite busy, but in October we pretty much have the place to ourselves. We would consider returning should we be back in the area. No cable, but good over the air TV, good cell (verizon) service, and free WiFi that works! We camped at Tiell park Campground (formerly St. James City Park Camp) in a Motorhome.
