Siloam Springs State Park, Clayton, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We were looking for a site for the holiday weekend but every place in central Illinois was either full or flooded. Contacted Siloam and they had multiple walk up site available. Perhaps its because they are very well out of the way. Small state park, manager I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. We were arriving late and they told us to just pick a site without a reserved ticket and check in the next day. We had to move a couple of sites because we couldn't get level. Sites were heavily wooded and took a bit to navigate around the trees. Glad we only had a 30' class A. There are hiking trails and a decent size lake for fishing unfortunately the weather wouldn't cooperate for many outdoor activities. For those liking the stars this is in one of the darkest areas of Illinois but it is heavily wooded and no real areas for night sky observing. We camped at Siloam Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Clinton Lake State Recreation Area, Dewitt, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed a single night here. It's close to my daughter's home. Wooded site was pretty level. Gravel spot. Easy to back in with our 29' class A. Electric was good. The park is very large and was full the weekend we stayed. We'll go back. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Weinburg-King State Park, Rushville, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Weinberg-King state park is located in Augusta, IL but Rushville is the closest town this website lists. Of the 19 sites, 12 have 50 amp and 7 have 30 amp service. Before we purchased our RV, I stayed there 1 night in April 2017 simply for a dark night astrophotography. I slept in my car during the day and worked at night. W-K is in the darkest area in Illinois. The park was empty being before the season and I had the entire state park to myself. During check in I explained my plans to the DNR person and he showed me places on the park map where I could drive to and setup for the night. The park is mostly used by campers with horses. The park has many miles of horse trails. There is also lots of hiking and fishing. For dark nights in Illinois only 4 hours from Chicago we'll always go back. We camped at Weinburg-King State Park in a Tent.
