Weinburg-King State Park, Rushville, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay here. The park just added electric to 29 more campsites that were previously just primitive sites. These are not yet listed on the reserve america website. We go for star gazing and astrophotography as its the darkest part of Illinois only 4 hours from Chicago. We camped at Weinburg-King State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Darkest part of Illinois. Park ranger said the light near the bathrooms were on a switch and he could shut them off for a group of star gazers if needed. Looks like they're working hard to be an astronomy dark site.

West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA, Gretna, Nebraska

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 1 night here on our way back home. The campground is just off the interstate but you hear little traffic from the site. I have to admit for a site off the beaten path this one was filled with a lot of high end motorhomes so there must be something great about it. Interior roads were wide and well maintained, staff guided us back to our site and helped us get parked and level. Bathrooms were clean and modern and the pool and playgrounds were well kept. We camped at West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA in a Motorhome.

There is a small pizza shop in the office and they will deliver to your campsite. This is no frozen, oven baked stuff, it is good quality pizza. Order it for dinner.

Estes Park KOA, Estes Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $74.00
Overall Rating:

KOA right on the edge of Estes Park. Tight maneuvering even for our 27' motorhome but the sites were fairly level. Friendly staff helped us get parked and level. Cable tv was available with about 30 channels. decent reception even though we were out further in our loop. Sites are very close together. We weren't able to extend our awning all the way because of our neighbor's camper. Still overall it was a good site. We camped at Estes Park KOA in a Motorhome.

A shuttle bus stops by the KOA every 20-30 minutes throughout the day. Take the shuttle downtown then take the trolley to shopping and dining. Little need to drive.

Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA, Devils Tower, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 1 night on our trip to Yellowstone. I wanted a site with good visibility of Devil's Tower and this campsite delivers. Our initial site was muddy and wet but the staff was friendly and took us out to see several other sites before we chose one. Still had a great view. Clean bathrooms and showers. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

You are right next to Devil's Tower national monument entrance but still a mile and a half from the actual tower. Most spots in the park offer a great view of thew tower. They also show "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" each night at 8pm in an outdoor theater.

Bridge Bay Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 6 nights at Bay Bridge. All the sites were asphalt but most of them were very unlevel. The loops go uphill and the further up the more unlevel the site. We actually drove through the loop against the one-way in order to have our nose facing downhill at our site. We used blocks of wood to help get level. Walking distance to Yellowstone Lake. Bay Bridge is centered in the park but you are still 20-30 miles from many sites. This is a no service campground, no electric, water or sewer. Generators allowed from 8am-8pm. Dump station and water fill are just outside the campgrounds. Bathrooms are nearby and clean. We had elk wander through our site one evening. We camped at Bridge Bay Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are no showers at this campground. For showers head up north to Canyon village or south to Grant village. The showers there are pay showers with lots of hot water. They are open from 7am-noon then from 2pm-7pm. Plan your trip to arrive at 2pm. The showers get cleaned from noon-2pm each day. Not much traffic at 2pm. Everyone wants to shower first thing in the morning or in the evening.

We stayed 1 night on our way out to Yellowstone. Easy access with wide roads and gravel sites. Sites were pretty level. Staff led us to our site, it was a drive through. Easy to get parked and leveled. Kids enjoyed the pool. It was clean. Bathrooms were clean and modern. Close to the interstate but you didn't hear much traffic. Siloam Springs State Park, Clayton, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We were looking for a site for the holiday weekend but every place in central Illinois was either full or flooded. Contacted Siloam and they had multiple walk up site available. Perhaps its because they are very well out of the way. Small state park, manager I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. We were arriving late and they told us to just pick a site without a reserved ticket and check in the next day. We had to move a couple of sites because we couldn't get level. Sites were heavily wooded and took a bit to navigate around the trees. Glad we only had a 30' class A. There are hiking trails and a decent size lake for fishing unfortunately the weather wouldn't cooperate for many outdoor activities. For those liking the stars this is in one of the darkest areas of Illinois but it is heavily wooded and no real areas for night sky observing. We camped at Siloam Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed a single night here. It's close to my daughter's home. Wooded site was pretty level. Gravel spot. Easy to back in with our 29' class A. Electric was good. The park is very large and was full the weekend we stayed. We'll go back. We camped at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Weinburg-King State Park, Rushville, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Weinberg-King state park is located in Augusta, IL but Rushville is the closest town this website lists. Of the 19 sites, 12 have 50 amp and 7 have 30 amp service. Before we purchased our RV, I stayed there 1 night in April 2017 simply for a dark night astrophotography. I slept in my car during the day and worked at night. W-K is in the darkest area in Illinois. The park was empty being before the season and I had the entire state park to myself. During check in I explained my plans to the DNR person and he showed me places on the park map where I could drive to and setup for the night. The park is mostly used by campers with horses. The park has many miles of horse trails. There is also lots of hiking and fishing. For dark nights in Illinois only 4 hours from Chicago we'll always go back. We camped at Weinburg-King State Park in a Tent.
