Four Mile Creek State Park, Youngstown, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here four nights while visiting the local attractions and friends. The park met my expectations marvelously from its website. After weeks of camping in the dark Canadian forrests it was a pleasure to enjoy the openness of Four-Mile Creek. Beautiful grass lawns stretch everywhere with giant shade trees on almost every campsite. Ours had a windbreak of cedars on one side that gave us complete privacy on that side. We had a view of Lake Ontario also. The park is only 15 minutes from Niagara Falls and fine minutes from historic Fort Niagara. We camped at Four Mile Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lands End Park, Tobermory, Ontario

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The park has a good office, store and helpful staff. It is close to Tobermory. The sites are spacious, quiet and deeply hidden in the forest. But be cautious about what you read in their brochure. You cannot see stars except for straight up. You will not see sunsets and there are no views. You will not hear loons on the bay. The "beach" front area is about 30 ft wide and is on a small creek. The interior layout is very confusing and the campground map doesn't help much. They have made an effort to put up signs indicating traffic direction but that could be improved on. I met another camper that was so confused he said he searched for his site for an hour. But that was at night. Don't dare come in here for your initial set-up after dark unless you are very familiar. The roads are winding, narrow, pot-holed, muddy and closely lined with trees. I had to be extremely careful and even then could not avoid brushing with tree limbs against my 30' trailer. There are no ponds in the park, as the brochure allows, only some swamps. But it does have a lot of family oriented sites like volleyball and playgrounds. They want $10 a bundle of firewood. You can easily get it for $4-7 outside. Most disappointing was the dump station. It is in back of the park, on a slope and blocks the loop road. There is a small go-around road but if more than one RV is lined up waiting the entire loop is blocked off. I think I would investigate other parks near Tobermory before coming back here. We camped at Lands End Park in a Travel Trailer.

Castle Rock Campark, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here four nights while visiting the local attractions. We got a site near the beach with an outstanding view across Lake Huron toward Mackinac Island. It was far enough from I-75 to be mostly quiet. But it is a muddy place when it rains, which it did most of our time there. The roads are dirt/mud and the pads are dirt/mud. The park was mostly deserted, as it was late in the season, yet a Class C came in and parked a few feet from our back bumper. Didn't care though as we were gone mostly. I did get in some fine kayacking out in front of the park. We camped at Castle Rock Campark in a Travel Trailer.

Potato Creek State Park, North Liberty, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night while passing through the area. Didn't unhitch. The pads were excellent, level, clean and spacious. There were lots of trees and greenways. I would stay here multiple days if visiting the area. If it had water and sewer it would be a 10-star. We camped at Potato Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp), Muldraugh, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We were passing through; stayed one quick night after arriving after the office closed. The camp host saw us come in and greeted us with a regisration form. He put me on his golf cart and toured the open spots. It had rained all day and there were numerous low spots in the park with puddles. The sites were eratically arranged and close together with many long-termers. Pine limbs hung so low I had one inside the trailer when I closed the door. It is off-post, about 5 miles from Ft Knox south gate. It was OK for a night. We camped at Camp Carlson Army Recreational Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Platte River Campground, Honor, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Blonde lady at the check-in office was less than pleasant. She scrutinized my paper temporary driver's license as if it were counterfit. "This is what they give you in your state?" she asked dirisively. I pointed out that is was temporary and my permanent plastic card would be arriving in the mail soon, and besides I had a retired military ID also if that made her feel better. It didn't. This scrutney and questioning went on too long. It became not funny anymore, but finally she logged me in ( I had a reservation). The sites are deep in the woods, quiet, spacious and level. The interior roads are narrow in places and require caution. The tent and table pads are excellent. We had a site that appeared from three directions to be completely isolated. This park also has an automatic firewood dispensor. Put in your $5 bill and out it comes. Pretty cool. We camped at Platte River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Morganton Point, Morganton, Georgia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

If you have a big rig do your homework. The best sites for big iron are 5, 9, 4, 25. 9 is a great pull through with a lake view. Most other sites do not have lake views. The tent sites on the peninsula are the best. The bathouse was fantastic, the best we have ever seen. The beach is beautiful. The campground was a bit noisy with loud talk and radio music. People from the nearby town like to cruise through the camp in noisy vehicles or motorcycles. That was annoying but not constant. Good trail to the beach. We would go back if we could get site 9. We camped at Morganton Point in a Travel Trailer.
