Chris' Camp, Spearfish, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We needed a place to park while visiting Deadwood. We happened to see this place just off the interstate. We called and the host quoted me $39/night for Elec. & H2O as well as $42/night for Elec./H2O/Sewer and said she would show us around and we could pick our spot. When we showed up we were shown 7 spots and we chose #24. It was right by a shower/bathroom and just around the corner from the nice pool. The showers are 25 cents, but one quarter does it. Our spot was level and the connections were good. We picked a $42 spot, but when my wife paid, we were charged $46/night. I'm not sure why the increase, but we let it go. We found the grounds, pool, showers and bathrooms to be very clean. The hosts were friendly and the site we had was secluded and quiet. The wi-fi was good, but not extremely reliable. We were very happy with the location and the short drive to Deadwood. They even had a petting / feeding zoo that was fun to watch as the kids fed the animals. I feel like this place could get very busy, especially in July, and get real tight. I also didn't care for the direction given by the host to back my trailer in. Overall, a great stay and great hosts for our visit. We camped at Chris' Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Red Trail Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This place is in town, but has fairly easy access. They seem greedy and it shows! The RV sites are EXTREMELY CLOSE and you feel like sardines! Most sites are so short they don't allow the vehicle to stay attached to the rig because you stick out into the road. You have to detach and park in the grass next to your RV. There are even MANY spots that are back-to-back. The rigs are literally 2 feet apart at the rears of the units! Greed is the only reason I can think of for packing everyone in this tight. They have sites with electric & water as well as full hookups. We were also offered a cable TV hookup, but they want an additional $3.00 per night! The sites are gravel and uneven. The trees aren't well trimmed and I watched several rigs drag the tops of their units against the branches. The restroom / showers were ill equipped (one men's stall), outdated, hot and had bugs. The one positive I could find was that the WiFi works great! We had a spot close to the office so that may be the reason why. The dump station is in a terrible location that backs up traffic even more! The "kids" on staff are nice and helpful, but they aren't enough to make this campground even average. I will NOT be recommending this park to anyone. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Minot / Swenson RV KOA, Minot, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This place is right off the highway and it had some rigs up front for sale, which buffers the noise from the sites. They are a new KOA and it shows! They are updating many things and the amenities look great! The sites are nice. The electric posts are lit, the water is heated and they are open year round. The restroom / showers were new and clean, the laundry room is open 24/7 and they have plenty of machines. The wifi works, but not great. The friendly staff is the icing on the cake. I don't only recommend this campground, I will go out of my way to stay here again! We camped at Minot / Swenson RV KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Stony Point Rv Park & Campground, Cass Lake, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is a big time RV Park! It is connected to Cass Lake by a canal system that allows just about all the sites to have water access, which is very cool! We got a back spot with a view of the canal, lake & beach. The site had a concrete pad, electric (30&50 amp), sewer and water. The hookups were nice and the lot was level. The clubhouse was nice with a store in front with a lot of supplies, just in case you forgot something. The check-in was quick and the staff was very friendly. The bathrooms & showers were not only clean, but the water had a nice spray and was warm as well. The roads were a little tight getting the rig in because there is a lot of parking alongside the roads, but we did get in without incident. I can recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the area, especially with a boat. We camped at Stony Point Rv Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Pammel Park, Winterset, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This location is 4 miles SW of Winterset in a nice park setting. There is a tunnel with a low ceiling, but our 10 1/2 footer fit fine. We pulled in and were greeted by the host and he pointed us in the right direction. The sites have a concrete pad on the back, so the tires can be on concrete if you like. We chose to stay in front so the stabilizers could be on concrete. They have electric, but it was quite a ways away. We needed an extension cord. They have water, but it too is quite a ways away and we needed an extra hose. Sewer dump is located on site and works well. No wi-fi here and the bathrooms/showers were a little rough. Nice park, just a bit rough and rural. We camped at Pammel Park in a Travel Trailer.

Careful on the way in. KNOW THE HEIGHT OF YOUR RIG! Stop before the tunnel and double check clearance! Careful exiting the campground, roads are rough with tight turns.

Mormon Island State Recreation Area, Doniphan, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second choice, but we arrived late so made it our #1. The attendant was still there at 7:30 and check in was a breeze. $20 a night plus $8 for the car. We got a nice spot with shade and trees. The Park is on the south side of Grand Island and pretty close to I-80. The spot was level and had electric only. They had a water supply and a dump, but we didn't utilize either as it was just an overnight stay. No wi-fi here, but generally a nice, quiet place with trees and a lake nearby. We camped at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Prentice Park, Ashland, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We chose this place for it's amenities. I even called the Parks & Rec department ahead of time to verify the facilities. DON'T BE FOOLED! I NEEDED wi-fi for work and IT IS NOT HERE! If you need wi-fi yourself and choose to stay here, plan on trips to McDonald's. The park is very nice. It is asphalt, even though there are uneven sites. The restrooms are nice and the shower facilities are decent as well. There are not a lot of spots here (6, I think) so they are first come - first served. Electricity and Water, but you must drive to the other side of town to dump. Once again, it's not a bad RV Park, but I think advertising wi-fi to attract people is wrong. We camped at Prentice Park in a Travel Trailer.

Autumn Woods RV Park, Rochester, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This was a great choice. A privately owned park that was very nice and well kept. This location is south of Rochester on a nice side road. It is fairly close to the Interstate, but you can't hear any noise from it. The spots are gravel, but nice. They have a nice wooden deck with a picnic table that is nice to pull up to. The have electric, water and sewer and they are in handy locations. We had a back in site, but still plenty of room for our vehicle. Wifi here, but it is NOT good! The showers and restrooms are nice, single use and are handicapped accessible. They aren't the cleanest as there were bugs in the shower on the walls, but it was OK overall. Nice park, just lousy wifi and could use some bathroom cleaning more often. We camped at Autumn Woods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
