Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

At 5000' in July the temperature was warm, but okay. The trails are great, including visiting the national Fort. We saw coyote, snake, birds, aoudads, and more. We could open the windows every night (into the high 50s). The Sheep Pen Canyon Loop is 11+ miles, but a very fun hike. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Nice shopping at Porters in town. Do not skip the Overland Trail Museum in town. Other supplies at Fr. Davis Outfitters & Feed store. The Park has a nice program of presentations all week.

Franklin Mountain State Park, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We did not camp because it was too hot in July, no power, and no shade. I thought the altitude 4500' would be cooler. But the trails were okay. We camped at Franklin Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Hueco Mountain Hut, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This commercial store is 1 mile from Hueco Tanks State Park. We stayed in July, so it was very hot, but we had one of the two RV sites with electricity. A summer storm took out all the internet in the valley. The owner had a water pipe break, so showers were not available ($5). We enjoyed the privacy of being the only customers in July, and we used it to access Franklin Mountains in El Paso. This store caters to rock climbers, and has 14 sites for tents, 2 for RV, all close together. But the state park locks up at 5 pm, so this site gave comfortable access for our schedule. We camped at Hueco Mountain Hut in a Travel Trailer.

Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We only hiked one day in the park. Most of the area is restricted and requires a guide. This is a favorite location for rock climbers. But we enjoyed the location so much we extended our stay to just rest in comfort and conduct work in our trailer. We camped at Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site in a Travel Trailer.

Mission Tejas State Park, Weches, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a hidden gem, with great forest hiking trails. It is also adjacent to the Davey Crockett National Forest and the 4 C Trail. However, a recent tornado has closed 75% of the 4 C Trail. We camped at Mission Tejas State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Eisenhower State Park, Denison, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice place. The wifi does not reach beyond the ranger station. There is a repeater at the bathhouse, but I could never make it work there. This is a decent park with hiking trails and water access. We got chiggers in 2017, but had no trouble with any bugs in 2018. We camped at Eisenhower State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Miller's Kampark, Liberty, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The location is great, but it took some effort to find it. Better signs would help. The camp is old and the clientele seemed, uh, rustic. But our neighbors were quite friendly and helpful. We had no reservation, just drove in, and there were sites available. There was no staff on duty in the late afternoon, so we did the self-register. The neighbor shared the password for the wifi. Our electric box did not supply 30 Amp, but it did work with the 15-amp adapter, and we were only staying the one night. I would be willing to stay again for the convenience. And they are in the process of building a new bathhouse. We camped at Miller's Kampark in a Travel Trailer.

Minneapolis Northwest KOA, Rogers, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $41.00

There are very few campgrounds providing access to the Twin Cities. (The maps and receipts list this as in Maple Grove, not Rogers.) This was a fine park, quite busy, but nice sites. We camped at Minneapolis Northwest KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Prairie Cove Campground, Ashby, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We spent one night. The site is beautiful, and convenient, right off the interstate highway. But that meant you could hear the traffic all night. We tried to call ahead to two other locations, both of which were full. Both recommended this site, midway between them. We were quite pleased with the result. We camped at Prairie Cove Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Cooperstown City Campground, Cooperstown, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is the closest campground for the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site (missile site =$10). It is a pretty city park, and a delightful stop. You self-register.

There is good signage on the main town streets to find the park and campground. The city park is a block square, with playground and gazebo, with nice grass, and community garden. The east side of the block is the camp area, 12 sites for which you back in from the street; there is an up-slope climb of about 2-3 feet. There is a modern bathhouse with covered, concrete entryways. It is the most wheelchair-friendly bathhouse I have seen. The sites are gravel, and more or less level. We were there in the middle of the week, and were the only trailer, but there was a tent on the site furthest from where we set up. We camped at Cooperstown City Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Metigoshe State Park, Bottineau, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This was a nice state park. The one issue is that they changed the traffic flow after construction. By making the interior road one-way, and requiring the trailer door to face the campsite, all campers on one side have to be escorted in by the host in the opposite direction, and your cables and hoses have to run under your rig to the hookups. There is no wifi anywhere in the park. For a park in lake country in the summer, there was surprisingly little mosquito trouble. This is a great place for hiking and kayaking. We camped at Lake Metigoshe State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Hillcrest Acres Campground, Bismarck, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights here. It is very close to the city and our relatives. The place was clean and pretty, but not spacious. We never saw the staff because it was self-register (we had a phone reservation). Good wifi. We would recommend staying here to others. We camped at Hillcrest Acres Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Red Trail Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We spent 10 days here while exploring the National Park. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were lucky to get a site with full hookups over the weekend, due to a vacancy that happened when we checked in. It was next to the laundry, store, and showers; we liked that a lot. The wifi was good. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Travel Trailer.
