Douglas Headwater Campgrounds, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is a little ways off the beaten path. Two lane and narrow. It's best to Google Map it first in satellite to get a good feel of the route. Our GPS took us to some very scary traveling conditions; sharp turns, very narrow back roads. Once we got to the campground, its a beautiful location overlooking the headwater side of Douglas Dam. Campground is very well maintained by staff. Day use area has a very nice picnic area with a swimming beach. Our campsite was up on a hill with good view of the lake. It was level, long site and a nice shade tree. Sites 7-40 are hilly and not level. Sites 45-65 are level and along the water. No sites had sewer hookup but the park has a honey wagon and a nice dump station. Verizon good, T-Mobile iffy. The campground is about 5 miles from Sevierville and about 7 miles from Pigeon Forge. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Canal COE, Grand Rivers, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We did not make reservations for this site. I looked at available sites the day before our arrival and there was plenty of empty sites. When we arrived @~5pm, there was only a couple sites available. The site that I picked out of the two was on the "Hill" and it was a pull-through and not very level. If we are ever back in the area, I will make reservations for the "Canal" area. It's level and more spacious. Talking to our next door neighbor, he told me that this time of year, most of the campers are retired from the local area and have been coming here together for years. They are all fishermen & women. They practice for weekend fishing tournaments. It's a beautiful park. The interior blacktop roads are a little dated. Many golf carts used by seniors since the parks is spread out. Verizon was good, T-Mobile iffy, OTA TV reception good. Dump station has very easy access. The Land Between The Lakes is a nice National Preserve. Many things to see & do. We camped at Canal COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Grand Rivers is a neat little town with Patti's 1800 Settlement. Patti's Restaurant is being rebuilt from the fire year and half ago. We were told that August 2019 is now the new open date.

Table Rock Lake State Park, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here the last week in April. Great time to be in the Branson area. Spring has sprung and not crowded. The state park is about 8 miles from downtown Branson. We camped in campground 2, adjacent to the marina. Table Rock lake is beautiful and scenic. Marina and campground structure are all fairly new. Level sites, good maneuverability. Our site was on the north side (no water hookup) and it has shade. All the other sites south were not shaded. Plenty of hiking, biking and water activities. All in all, a very nice park. Verizon & T-Mobile good. OTA reception good. We camped at Table Rock Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Old Post Road COE, Russellville, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

COE parks are a hidden treasure. And this parks is no excepting. We loved it and wanted to stay longer. In your mind and thinking about a non-commercial park, this is it. It has paved sites, 50 amp service, water and room to park you tow vehicle. Plenty of space between sites. All site are pretty much level. Good mountain biking trails, good lake visitor center, good walking trail along soccer complex (>mile), some river boat traffic and good Verizon cell service. The only thing for negitive comment was the OTA TV reception, we only got 3 channels and it was in&out. We camped at Old Post Road COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is our third visit to this wonderful park. Great access to the beach, great hiking trails and great mountain bike trails. My type of place. We are here the last week in Feb and the weather is in the low 70's. Go two miles inland and it's 80. It took me about 20 minutes to land our 5th wheel in our site. Very close quarters and limited room to maneuver. I only had to put an 1.5" block on one side to level out. The septic connection is a horizontal connect (first for us) but it makes you use the screw-on attachment device that comes with your hoses (sure way for no spills). Good power, good water pressure and good OTA TV reception. Our Verizon hot spot strong and our T-Mobile cell strong. For on-line reservations, you have to create an account with the Jacksonville Parks (easy to do). This park is very busy and fills up fast. We made reservation 6 weeks in advance. Advice..Get a site much longer than your rig, you will be glad for extra room to maneuver. We will definitely come back here again. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Milton / Gulf Pines KOA, Milton, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

Typical KOA facility. Expensive but we are paying for convenience. We could not book another campground in the area during the weekend. Easy access off I-10 into the park but leaving you need to make a left turn but there is a divide in the four lane. You must make a right and turn around. This could be a difficulty for big rigs. The park is adjacent to I-10 and a constant road noise at all hours. We got used to it. The park is very clean, well maintained and well managed. The staff were super friendly. We did not use the free internet but the digital cable TV was great. We camped at Milton / Gulf Pines KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Pensacola RV Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great location off I-10 then take a short county road to CG entrance. The staff was friendly and helpful. There are many pull-through sites and are all level and long for transient travelers. There are several back-in's and they are for the monthly snowbirds. The park is clean, orderly and well maintained. The analog cable TV was acceptable, WiFi was good and had good Verizon and T-Mobile cell. The laundry facilities worked great. Needed a propane bottle filled, set it in front of RV by the interior road in the morning returned filled by lunch. We like the CG because of it' easy access to touring the area and also the warm feeling the staff provides to it's guest. The park stays full so you must reserve well in advance. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Pensacola RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Gunter Hill COE, Montgomery, Alabama

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stay as we were traveling through on I-65. Good roads from the interstate about 10 miles through the country side. Good way to see the roads less traveled. The Army Corp of Engineers campground is well maintained, long and spacious sites, full hookups and plenty of room to manage your rig. Many big rigs here. The laundry room is in despair with broken machines. Our site backed up right to the river with a nice view of the river in our back picture window. By days end, the park was full. OTA TV was good from Montgomery. Verizon HotSpot good and our T-Mobile cell good. We would definitely come back again. We camped at Gunter Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park, Newnan, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

The best approach to the park is 34 west from Newnan and then follow the signs. We found this out after we took the windy long road using the GPS. This is a new park (6 yo) and all the facilities are in great condition. You are definitely out in the boonies but like all the other Ga State Parks, it's very nice. The trails are also nice and well marked. Verizon was good during the week but the hotspot slowed down during the weekend when the campground was near full. We had no T-Mobile service for our cell phones. The cell tower to the park must be limited. OTA TV was OK, but I was only able to get a couple of network channels from Atlanta. We camped at Chattahoochee Bend State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Must visit the Newnan Visitor Center at the courthouse at the town square. They will gladly inform you of all the history and happenings in the area. We had no idea of the amount of history and historical houses in the area, along with knowing that Alan Jackson is from here.

Crooked River State Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

A well managed park. It is what you would expect for a rating of 9. The registration staff were pleasant and helpful. We came in a couple of hours before check-in(1pm) and asked us to wait in an adjacent parking lot for the site to be cleaned. Fifteen minutes later we got the call. The campground is very clean, spacious, open and easy to manage your rig. All sites are level and long. There is several camp host and they are alway busy doing something. The roads are like-new blacktop with gravel sites. Half of the campsites (east side) have sewer hookup which is not mentioned on ReserveAmerica. Good Verizon and received ~20 OTA channels. There are several well maintained hiking trails that can be biked, a bird watching blind and a couple of raised stands for watching wildlife. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Blythe Island Regional Park Campground, Brunswick, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Be prepared to be greeted by friendly wild rabbits when you check-in. Elmer Fudd would enjoy this place. You get a lot for the money; Cable TV, sewer, water, 50 amp, robust Wifi and plenty of distance between sites. The park is very well maintained. The road coming in has been newly paved. The gravel roads in the park are smoothed and wide enough to maneuver big rigs without any problems. We came the first week in February and it was 50's during the day and 40's at night. We took a couple of hikes by the river, nice and very scenic. The negatives; even in the cool weather, small black nats bug the heck out of you and right across from the river is a paper mill, if the wind is blowing in the right direction, there is a smell, not bad though. We would definitely come back again. We camped at Blythe Island Regional Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Holiday Trav-L-Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Check in went very well with a very customer focus staff person. Our stay was to facilitate our visit with the birth of a new grandchild so our free time at the park was minimum. We choose full hookup without cable. We were assigned site 126 and it was just long enough for our 32ft 5th wheel. The park was nearly empty except for a few long terms so I parked our truck in an empty site next to ours. We had good over-the-air digital TV reception and free unlimited strong Wifi connection during our entire stay. We were able to steam video to the TV without any issues. The only negative that we had was the jet noise from Oceana Naval Air Station just down the road. It was interesting to watch fighter jet above our heads but the noise was 24/7. We would come back again but next time we would get a super site, they are much nicer. We camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camp Bell Campground, Campbell, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

The park is maintained and satisfactory clean. There is many seasonal units but not trashy. The back pull through rows are for term short term stays. The pull through sites are level and on grass. It rained one night, and there was no mud. The wifi was better than most RV parks that we have stayed out. We got 8 over-the-air TV stations. Water and electric service were solid. We would stay there again. We camped at Camp Bell Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
