Gun Creek Campground - COE, Whittington, Illinois

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Site 32 - AKA (also known as) - The Boat Ramp / Water Slide. This site was OK for hookups, but man was it sloped. See the pic. Had to drop the hitch all the way to the ground to get level. Didn't see the host about. Area was clean. Hookups all worked well. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Travel Trailer.

Fall Creek Falls State Park, Spencer, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

A pretty state park. We stayed in the B campground and while the site was nice, having full electric, water and sewer, it was a nightmarish challenge to thread our trailer into the slot between trees. This particular site is identified as "moderate incline", which mean _drop your tongue to the ground. Sites tend to be unlevel so bring blocks. Nice amenities in park with a general store nearby to get beer and munchies and even a few RV needfuls if necessary. Staff patrols regularly and waste receptacles cleaned daily. Great place to visit. We camped at Fall Creek Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The B Loop is tight for big trailers. Better for smaller outfits

Johnson-Sauk Trail State Park, Kewanee, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is an electric only campground, but for Illinois, it ranks as one of the prettier ones along the 1-80 Corridor. Site was a tad uneven so we needed to level. We were in the pine section of the campground. The area was clean and the overall park was perfect for a fall visit. Nice little known gem. We camped at Johnson-Sauk Trail State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit, Eagle, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The campground itself is nice enough and reasonably maintained. I wanted to give this site a better review, but the bad water you get from this park's service area is absolutely terrible. If you don't want to make your whole RV smell like the dogs have a major gastrointestinal issue, then either get your water elsewhere or make sure you filter it before it goes in your tank. We avoided showers and held our noses every time we turned on the spigots. It rained continuously while we were here, so we didn't get much outdoor time, but looks to be a nice area for hiking. Get your water somewhere else besides in the park. This water has a sulfuric smell and is outright disgusting to use. Smells like the dogs have a gas problem. Going to drain and bleach my tanks when we get home. Yuck. There is a waste dump station with flushing water. We camped at Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit in a Travel Trailer.

Cedar Lake Bible Retreat & RV Park, Cedar Lake, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

It's an OK place if you are looking for a stop with full hooks ups for an RV, but not really a place for "getting away" since its basically s loop nestled in some woods between a christian ministry and the village outskirts of Cedar Lake. Pads here are all gravel. Our spot was a tad on the uneven side so we had to shim up our wheels on one side to get near level. Power boxes for site had 1 each 30, 50 amp outlet in addition to a conventional 112v GFCI outlet. Fire ring was somewhat of a disappointment -- essentially a small rusty sheet metal steel ring fairly far back on the site behind where the trailer would sit, with a few shards of what was likely a grill rack at one time, long since eroded away. Not ideally located at all. Generally it was a quiet place during our stay with the exception of An Amtrak line that runs just to the west 200 yards away, so trains would occasionally break the quiet. The lakefront is a short walk away (maybe about 5 to 6 blocks worth of walking). The lakefront area you can access is part of the Ministry, so depending on when you decide to go to the lake, there maybe some groups nearby participating in activities for the Ministry. You can gain access to the lake for swimming there, but "modest" swimsuits are required. We didn't see anyone policing this, but be aware that traipsing around in a thong might get you some unwanted attention. You've been warned guys! ;-). Like we said, its OK place to lay over on your travels. We camped at Cedar Lake Bible Retreat & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a Struck and Van Til grocery store and a True Value hardware store just a half mile north, so of the park. There is a Red Box there too if you need a DVD for a rainy evening.
