Tips for other Campers:

Absolutely do the Wolf Preserve tour. Clean laundry in Blairstown, with Acme grocery and Rite Aid pharmacy just down the street. Post Time Pub on Main St, Blairstown, friendly bar, good food. Pay attention to camp directions. Very steep hills on approach, use Wishing Well road.

Jacobs Brook Campground, Orford, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I'm torn about telling you about this camp or keeping it to myself. In my top five of all camps in the United States, and I have been full-timing almost 2 years. Gorgeous, quiet, peaceful camp, new owners dedicated to improvements, awesome grounds for hiking or just relaxing. Come in the beginning of October, and the trees will take your breath away. The walk down to the brook is worth the whole thing. I have a dog, and was warned multiple times about coyotes, but did not see or hear any. Supposedly a bear in the area too - garbage bins are snap shackled, so some critters around. Do not leave any food out. We camped at Jacobs Brook Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Get propane filled before you come! No local propane. By chance found some at a season closed Littlefield Campground in nearby Greenwood, but would have had to travel much further. ATM at Norway Savings Bank off Rt.2 and Parkway Road. Grocery in downtown Bethel, 24 hr laundromat on Rt. 2 going into town.

Camden Hills State Park, Camden, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Came in mid-September without reservations, it was first-come, first served. Many vacant sites. I chose one with 30 amp and water. Quiet, comfortable, tree-covered, though open field sites available for the solar folks. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Camden is clogged with traffic, but easy 2-hour parking by the marina. Great modern laundromat in Camden, but away from downtown. "Camden Clothesline" also has a self-serve car wash next door and a market down the street. Curtis lighthouse.

Brennan Beach RV Resort, Pulaski, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Terribly misleading name - neither "Beach" nor "RV Resort" this is a place for seasonal renters. The functional campground is a long mile from the beach, with very narrow sites, crumbling patio pads, uneven grass and dirt roads. The 75 transient camp sites are overwhelmed by the 1000+ seasonal sites and their zipping golf carts and vehicles. Unsafe to walk dog or kids, IMHO. Some very nice state parks in NY - stay away from this place. As a Thousand Trails/Encore member, I feel ripped off. GPS will direct you to turn into park about 1/4 mile too early. Read the local signs, and look for the park sign, if you must. We camped at Brennan Beach RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Darien Lakes State Park, Darien Center, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Gorgeous, spacious park. Quiet, good dark site for night sky viewing. Not all sites same size or level. Inspect sites before reserving. I used GM GPS and Waze from Cincinnati - both sent me on closed roads, back roads and impossible roads. Check route beforehand, and do not be afraid to use a real map to get here from wherever you are. Easy to get to if you use the right roads. We camped at Darien Lakes State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Alton RV Park, Galloway, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

No frills, efficient, clean park. Tight room but level and maneuverable. Came to visit the zoo about 30 minutes away on good roads. Dog park a few miles away. Kroger and Walgreens just down the road. Good place from which to visit Columbus. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lovely park. Mostly very short spaces, verify you can fit. Park is right next to a highway and a quarry - can be very loud during the week. Great place for kids. Well-stocked store. Laundry $1.50. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA, Trenton, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Park is on a hill, not the camp for people with mobility issues. Site was level. Whole park is gravel, with average KOA amenities. Some evidence of improvement in progress, pallet of construction material or a sculpture a permanent fixture off the office. Grocery 15 min away, gas station just off highway exit. Good location for visiting Chattanooga attractions. We camped at Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground (Airstream Only), Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Follow website directions, not GPS. The camp is full of Airstream trailers and motorhomes enclosed in high overhead garage/barn type structures. Some visitor sites with no enclosures at all (recommended). I was assigned a vacant structure site that was up for sale, so you were effectively in a barn the whole time - could only see out of front and back windows. Had to use lights. No cell phone service and only camp stone-age Internet - enough for emails. Seniors on golf carts roam the camp. Two washers, two dryers with a signup board. Large rec room, media room. Heavy ticks and fleas (May 2019) for pets. It was an interesting experience, but would not do it again. We camped at Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground (Airstream Only) in a Travel Trailer.

Little Rock North / Jct. I-40 KOA, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Rainy season. Site had minimum gravel, lots of mud. Can really, really use many trucks of gravel and drainage engineering. Park is dog "tolerant" not dog friendly. Do not approach the office with your dog. We camped at Little Rock North / Jct. I-40 KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Albuquerque Central KOA, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Note: This KOA camp has a deal with the Tucson KOA - bring in the coupon from the Tucson camp and get 20% off your camp fees at ABQ. Very clean and well maintained. My 50 amp bakelite cover was broken but functional - without mentioning it to the staff it was replaced during my stay. We camped at Albuquerque Central KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Look carefully at Yelp and TripAdvisor - there are many, many things to see here. I could not do it all in 5 days. Two outstanding places - the Nuclear Science Museum, and the Very Large Array (two hours south). Self-spray $1.50 car wash just down the street. Nearby Albertson's grocery had very good fresh veggies and fresh meat sections. Airstream dealer within 1/2 mile. Central Avenue is a better way downtown than getting on the overcrowded highway.

Bear Mountain RV Resort, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Great price for your basic no-frills camp. Easy access (no signs, use GPS) and friendly afternoon manager. Rest rooms were being worked on, and rates are due to rise $2 very soon. Still a bargain. Propane sales down the road ~3 miles at Mobil. We camped at Bear Mountain RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

San Diego Metro KOA, Chula Vista, California

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

It's clean, convenient, level paved sites. I picked the "less expensive" 30 amp drive-thru at $63/night. Don't recommend it during the 2018 winter. Bulldozers 30 feet away constructing new camp sites start at 8, go to 5. Helicopters overhead at about 4 per hour, day and night, presumably due to the border issue (Mexican border 10 miles away), and a man with a very loud streetsweeper is on a mission to make my camp experience miserable. Good place to park the camper and see San Diego, not for peace and quiet. They have discount tickets for most local attractions at the office. Watch out for little kids on bikes. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Travel Trailer.
