Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park, Rio Hondo, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Camped in 21 ft TT. All RV sites are the same size and setup. Paved road, gravel site pads. Used site 1, 2, 33. (Reserved two nights at a time.) We stayed 16 - 21 Jan 2019. It was crowded on the weekend, but some sites still available. Other info in other reviews is still accurate, except security seemed tight. Gate is automated with pass key required. Personnel patrol frequently during the day. I recommend on-line reservation. All sites are reserveable. We camped at Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fresh "Local" take out food at bait shop 2 blocks away. Campground is in the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge. Visit the Visitor's Center for birding information. It is some distance drive away. The access road was under construction when we visited. Port Isabella and South Padre Island is within easy driving distance.

Willow River State Park, Hudson, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The lake has been drained to replace the dam. It will remain drained for about two more years. I rated the campground "Excellent" based on the lake being returned. Two paved hiking trails plus others. A couple are very steep including one very high stair case trail. Beautiful waterfall with nearby rock climbing on some days. Permit required. We camped at Willow River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wyalusing State Park, Bagley, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Our favorite Wisconsin State Park for the last 50 years. Bluff sites are without parallel. However, the best sites are booked solid starting in late spring through early fall. There are first come, first serve sites on the bluff. Outstanding views of the Mississippi and Wisconsin river valleys. Eagles soar the air currents along the bluff. Bluff trails are beautiful but often narrow and treacherous in winter. Canoe rentals are available for the canoe trial through the backwaters of the Mississippi. Rates from 15 to $40 plus park admission. The park has both drop-in and reserved sites. We camped at Wyalusing State Park in a Travel Trailer.
