Cherry Creek State Park, Aurora, Colorado

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park with great views and wildlife. We saw deer and heard coyotes or wolves and owls. During winter, there is just one loop open so pretty sparse, but the spaces are nicely spread out. They have heated water faucet which is nice for this time of year to lower freezing issues. They don't really keep the streets clear of ice, but with the weather, it is manageable. Lots of activity in the park with cyclists and joggers. Service is fine, we didn't really see anyone. There was one day a camper had damaged the water so we did not have water supply as they worked on it. By the end of the day, we were back to having water. We only learned this by calling office, there was no notice given to campers like a left message on phone or note on windshield. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tiger Run RV Resort, Breckenridge, Colorado

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We were there over a month so had a monthly rate. That rate does not include electricity which cost us $126 for our stay, plus we got a propane tank that was re-filled once while on site. This is a wonderful RV park, which is seems to be slowly turning into cabins. The sites are owned by someone, then rented out while the staff maintains the site and manages the cabin/site rentals. There are some wonderful sites to rent with great views. We were in 321 which was a good location with views of the range towards our rear. The park itself is well-managed with snow plowing, a lovely rec center that has an indoor pool, two spas, a workout room, plus rooms for activities. It was also a nice area, just to walk and get some steps as you pass these adorable cabins and rigs with the mountains on all sides. You are expected to shovel your own space and they suggest skirting your rig. We didn't skirt but did pile up snow to "warm" the rig. There is a company that is always on site for rig maintainence, 4 Seasons Mobile RV Repair, that are super guys and know their stuff if you need repairs. Location is great as it is about 3 miles from Breckenridge, straight down highway to Main Street. There is a bus shuttle that gets close, then you walk up the hill. So really convenient to Breck as well as Keystone (20 m drive) and Frisco where the Walmart, Whole Foods, and a great bookstore, Next Page are located. It is pricey compared to other spots, but good value if you want to be in this area. Could likely have put car sideways behind rig, but since not hanging out outside, we parked next to rig. Pretty sure there was a firepit, but it was covered in snow. We hope to come back in the summer. We camped at Tiger Run RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

So many great things to do in Breckenridge. Love Next Page bookstore in Frisco, highly suggest going to Breckenridge Distillery and Restaurant - great drinks, good food, fun folks. Carboy Winery is also good. Restaurants in Breck are all good. Happy Hour at Aurum is a great deal. High Country Snowmobiles were fun.

Clear Creek RV Park, Golden, Colorado

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We were here when there was a lot of snow. The park was full but they said they had room for our 37 foot motorhome. They put us up against the fence. Luckily there was no slot next to us as we had to go in diagonally in order to fit in the space and reach the water. The park is very tight! And not many spaces, especially the back in spots, are really good for a bigger rig. We were also crossing snow piles since we could not go back into the space directly. As for the park, the location is perfect and has a popular trail right next to it. It is very picturesque especially with the snow and mountains on a clear day. The trail was nice, though also meant it was very busy with residents talking and using the trail, early and late. We would like to go back to explore Golden again as it is a cute town with lots of character and good spots to shop/eat. We camped at Clear Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Woody's Pizza for good pizza and great Bloody Mary. Had to park our tow across lot, wasn't far but could not park next to rig because space too small. Convenient and helpful Ace Hardware Store nearby.

Shady Creek RV Park & Storage, Aubrey, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This was a quick stop overnight before hitting the road after the holiday so very little interaction with the staff or at the campground. No online reservations so have to call in. This is a very crowded RV Park with some nice features like a pool and community fire pit area, but in winter, it seems a high price when you can't use those features. They also store RV in an covered and fenced area. This lends to the feeling of it being very crowded. There were a lot of campers in the facility, unsure if some were permanent or lots of holiday travellers. Would stay here again for an overnight but would not be my choice for a long stay unless I wasn't planning to be in the park much. We camped at Shady Creek RV Park & Storage in a Motorhome.

McPherson RV Ranch & Horse Motel, McPherson, Kansas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed overnight as we traveled through Kansas. It was a quick stop as we didn't arrive until after dark. The hosts were very nice, sent me detailed directions on how to arrive and was very responsive on the phone. They live on site so made themselves very available. We had water and electrical. It is off a highway so there is some noise and some train noise, but nothing too bad. Very easy to get in and out. We camped at McPherson RV Ranch & Horse Motel in a Motorhome.

Ellis Lakeside Campground, Ellis, Kansas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great city park where you can easily stay for an overnight or more. We were here in January when the river was frozen and it was bitter cold, enroute to Denver so didn't use the park much except to sleep. It is tucked in a neighborhood and has a beautiful church across the river. Super place to stop as you travel through Kansas. Only electrical in off season, but water other times. We camped at Ellis Lakeside Campground in a Motorhome.

We also stopped here last fall and it was a lovely site. It looked like local families might use it for weekend camping. There are a few things listed as sights to see in Ellis, but we never ventured out.

Shady Oaks Campground & RV Park, Harrison, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

The owners are very friendly and helpful. Very willing to talk and answer questions or help out. We noticed they took special care of our neighbor, an elderly gentleman. The park is pretty small with lots of shade and trees. We were there in fall so it was lovely with the autumn colors. The pad was very long, but not wide enough to have room on the side of our rig for our "patio" seating. The fire ring is more behind the rig than to the side. There is a very short nature walk on site, but of course, there are many trails within an hour of the campsite in the Buffalo River area. We camped at Shady Oaks Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fall is a great time to visit this area. Recommend driving the loop and Highway 7. Also the hike to Whitaker Point to see the Hawksbill Crag is a great hike, small inclines and very rocky but easy hike of about 2 hours. In nearby Harrison, there is a great bakery - Neighbors Mill Bakery and Cafe, try the muffins!

Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park, West Memphis, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This camp is fairly bland except for the fact that it is right on the Mississippi River and was close to Memphis, TN. The sites are close, but even. The staff were pleasant and were willing to help us. It was nice that they picked up the trash from your site. The roads between the sites need some maintenance to smooth out the ruts. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.
