Shamrock Park, Berrien Springs, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great little park on the St. Joseph River. There are a lot of seasonal campers, but it’s quiet and peaceful. Swinging benches along the river. Two playgrounds for a campground this size was nice to see. Our site was a bit cramped at the connections; the pull-throughs alternate so there are shared water spickets. Note: there was some wafting from the fish cleaning station that was noticed on the weekend when the boats were out. During the week, not at all. Our site 43 had really good WiFi, site was level. Next time we would stay on the south side if available; those sites are much more spacious. Roads are paved. Staff onsite is very helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at Shamrock Park in a Travel Trailer.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Warrens Wisconsin, Warrens, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here over the July 4th week. Very crowded by July 3-4, but otherwise was pleasantly not too crowded for such a big resort. Our children loved the water features: giant water slide, lazy river, wave pool. We had site D15, and it’s a bit on lower ground, so the rain made it a bit muddy. However, that area of the campground was not too much of a walk to the water park and mini golf, so I recommend that section. I rated it such good value because we used it as a water park resort. If it was an overnight stop, just understand that everyone needs to have a bracelet, so it gets pricey. We did not rent a golf cart, and they were exceedingly expensive ($375 for a regular golf cart for our 5 days). Our site neighbors said that they used to stay at another park in the Dells, and it was much smaller, and they found that they needed to go off-site to find enough to do. They found this one in Warrens and have come back ever since.

Water park areas with lifeguards are heavily staffed, which gave us a lot of comfort. We would definitely stay here again, and will likely make it an annual trip. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort Warrens Wisconsin in a Travel Trailer.

If you want to slow things down a bit, check out the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in nearby Necedah. About 25 mile drive and a quiet morning away from water park mania.

Percival Springs Airport & RV Park, Watson, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great overnight stay not far from I-57. Campground host Bill helped us get connected and was very friendly. Easy in and easy out with FHU. It’s on an airstrip that an emergency helicopter took off from, which delighted our girls. Swing set was good while we packed up. We would definitely stay here again, mainly for convenience and price. We camped at Percival Springs Airport & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Canal COE, Grand Rivers, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in early/mid June. Site 49, Woods Loop. Not many sites have FHU, so you have to be choosy if that’s what you need. A short walk to the beach and playground. Wildlife all around. Our site was spacious with lovely views. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves here very much and would go back.

A note as we walked through the campground...the closer you got to the water & docks in Fisherman’s Loop, the mayflies got thick. They were not noticeable in Woods Loop, Beach Loop & Hill Loop. We camped at Canal COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Elk & Bison Prairie Reserve. Around June 10, the bison babies were out. Go at dusk or dawn. The Welcome Center sells entrance cards 3 for $10. Great value for the money, as well as enjoyable for kids. We went at 7pm and got stuck in a bison traffic jam. Unforgettable.
