Ballyhoo Family Campground, Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet, peaceful park outside Crossville. Make sure that you use exit 322 off I-40 for easiest access. I arrived very late, and the staff stayed up to welcome me in and helped me into my pull-through site. Spacious sites with mature trees for shade. Laundry machines worked well. Staff were very helpful and accomodating. We camped at Ballyhoo Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Washington City Park, Washington, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

A quick overnight stop. Plenty of space for my 37 foot Travel Trailer. No staff there to check in; paid by check in the box. Very little signage once you enter the Park complex to where the RV park is located, but just keep heading towards the back (SE corner.) Did not use any of the facilities, but the electricity worked. We camped at Washington City Park in a Travel Trailer.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Golden, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Two night stay with my family. High elevation park (around 9000 ft), so be aware if you're coming from the plains. Open pine forest makes for pretty scenery and easy exploring for kids. Huge trail network around the park. We were in loop B and the pull-through sites was large enough for our rig, but took some attention to place in the site. Level site, and 50 amp power. Facilities overall are in good shape, but well-used. In fact, according to the ranger they run at 98% capacity all summer. Bathrooms clean, although the pay showers were small and the water pressure miserly. Small laundry available. There is NO VZW service in the campground. T-Mobile and (so I was told) AT&T do have strong data service. We camped at Golden Gate Canyon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Snow Mtn Ranch / YMCA of the Rockies, Granby, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed at this park with my family. We are YMCA members (not of the YMCA of the Rockies) which does provide a $5 discount per night on the sites. The YMCA of the Rockies offers a mind-boggling array of activities for kids and adults alike. If you are staying at this campground, you get a wristband which allows for access to all the activities. Some are free, some have a nominal cost, and many are in walking distance. Our kids, for example, went to daycamp while we were there. The campground itself has some really unique aspects. It's quite the wildlife preserve, with many hand-painted birdhouses in the campground, as well as hundreds of hummingbirds which enjoy the nectar put out by the staff. There are several propane grills and picnic areas available for guests as well. In the entire complex, there are many staff members, and there are enough camp hosts that they can get their cleanup/typical camp host work done and still have time for painting birdhouses and watering flowers. There is a playground easily accessible from the CG. Laundry is available in the Snow Mountain village. Hot water was spotty in showers in CG. The campground itself is dusty, and a typical post-pine beetle Colorado landscape. The roads are easily navigable for big rigs. The sites have a wide variety of lengths and quality. Also, there are a mix of FHU, W/E, and E only campsites. Some sites seemed to be very unlevel, but not all. We were in Site 34. Sites 32-42 (even numbered) have the best views. Would strongly recommend this park for families. We camped at Snow Mtn Ranch / YMCA of the Rockies in a Travel Trailer.

Green Ridge Campground USFS, Grand Lake, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

OK, I'm the first review of the campground. I'll try to make it informative! We stayed in the Campground for one night/most of two days, meeting friends. It is located near the West entrance to Rocky Mtn NP, on Shadow Mountain Lake. Forest Service Campground, run by a concessionaire. We have a 37 foot TT, and were able to maneuver into our site. With that said, this campground is not really designed for big rigs. There are a few pull-through sites and maybe one or two back-ins which could accommodate larger rigs, but make sure to pay attention to the length requirements on recreation.gov. Roads were tight but manageable throughout the campground. It was the tail end of the 4th of July weekend so it was very crowded with trucks/cars impinging on the road. Typical Colorado post pine-beetle landscape. Loop A had many more trees than loop B, so if it is very hot I'd recommend looking on that side. Also, Google Maps actually has a few photo spheres around the campground which can give you a feel for what it looks like. No electricity, and the water spigots in the campground are not threaded. We missed the water fill-up (unmarked) on the drive in. It's on the left by the boat ramp maybe 2/10 of a mile before the campground. Pit toilets were very clean, and brand new. The dam for Shadow Mountain is a short (<5 min) walk from the CG which offers incredible views of the lake and the mountains. Easy access to hikes along the Colorado River and more strenuous ones into the mountains. Right next to boat ramp. We camped at Green Ridge Campground USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Steamboat Lake State Park, Clark, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here over the 4th of July long weekend. Whooboy, it was crowded, as expected on this weekend. This campground is almost comically beautiful (at least when we were there.) Our loop (Arnica) and most of the other areas we saw had been cleared of pines several years ago because of the pine beetle infestation. Mostly 4-10 foot pines and open areas surrounded our site. Due to the clearing and a very wet early summer, the campground was a sea of wildflowers, with snow-capped peaks in the distance. Beautiful views. However, with all the trees removed, the sun was pretty relentless during the day, and the campsites (at least ours and others in the middle of the loop as opposed to the exterior) were very very exposed to other campers. Water was available in spigots around the campground. Dump station was in the other campground section but easy to access and well-kept. No electricity in our loop so no input on that. Lovely and very informational Visitors Center. Roads are not designed for long rigs, but do-able. There is a lot to do in the park, primarily water related and hiking. There is a small swim beach walkable from both campgrounds. No playgrounds. I had bars on T-Mobile, VZW, and Sprint, but I think the towers were overwhelmed by all the 4th of July crowds, so very little up/down data. Sprint actually was the fastest. 45 minute drive to Steamboat, and a lovely one. We camped at Steamboat Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Yampa River State Park (Headquarters Campground), Hayden, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

What an Incredible Park. As a family with young children, we really enjoyed this park, and all of it's facilities. Strongly recommend. It's location is right on the Yampa River. It's not really swimmable, but there is a maintained put-in for a flatwater stretch. Grocery Store in Hayden is ten minutes away; drive 35 minutes to explore touristy Steamboat. Grassy and open space with shade for picnic tables. The gravel is very nice and the sites are spacious for play. There is a 1.2 mile loop which goes around the campground and has wildlife viewing. Very flat and family-friendly. There are also two tipis which they rent out, but you can play in with kids if not rented. Laundry was very cheap, and bathrooms were top-notch. Showers are spacious and a quarter a minute for hot water. Rangers were very nice and accommodating and the camp hosts were hard-working and took pride in the space. There were flower baskets and planters near the pit toilets as well as in other places throughout the park. Junior Ranger booklet was well-designed and kids can even rent out backpacks with binoculars, ID guides, and magnifying glasses. We camped at Yampa River State Park (Headquarters Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Green River Campground, Jensen, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent view of Split Mountain from this campsite. No hookups, although good water available that can be filled into jugs at each bathroom. If you need to charge your cell phone, there are outlets in the bathrooms. After a long cool Spring, we arrived here just after it got hot--and it is hot in this campground. We didn't reserve a site (about half are reservable) because we wanted a chance to find something with shade. We did find a space with some afternoon/evening shade under cottonwoods, but plan accordingly as far as how you will keep cool. We had to drive the wrong way through the loop to have our doors facing the picnic table instead of the road. Excellent access to Quarry visitor center and attractions in this section of Dinosaur NP. River was very high on our visit, so there was not a place to swim, dip, or bathe (although the cool water would have been appealing!) Bathrooms clean, roads easy to navigate. Facilities kept up well. We could get NO Verizon service at the CG, although VZW is strong five miles away at the visitor center. T-Mobile service was strong at the Campground. I think my experience might have been different at this campground in cooler weather, but the heat was too intense (especially in the camper in the evening) which affected my experience, so take it with a grain of salt. We camped at Green River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Steinaker State Park Campground, Vernal, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Very quiet park. Convenient to Vernal. Some sites have full-hookups, some with electric only (faucets available for filling) and some dry camping. Very helpful campground host who helped us into our site. Bathrooms clean although some fly-infested. The bathrooms down by the boat ramp (a short walk) are much better. Shaded picnic areas are a nice touch. Excellent value for FHU site. Sites 6, 7, and 8 (and those near it) were the only ones we found with Verizon Service, which was overall very weak with our Hotspot. Bugs were surprisingly intense. Sparse shade, but afternoon winds were nice to cool things off. Lake is drained and can't be accessed. makes it even quieter than normal. Red Fleet State Park (10 min away) is free if you're camping here and has water access in a Lake Powell-eque environment. There is a dip/drainage on the loop which caught our hitch--by the looks of the concrete there many more have as well. Go slowly to make the scraping as painless as possible. We camped at Steinaker State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Sleeping Bear RV Park & Campground, Lander, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Park is under new ownership as of 2019. New owners were attentive and not overbearing. We opted for the 'view' sites and did not regret it. Spectacular view of the town and foothills of the Wind River Range. Sites close together, although there was plenty of room behind our camper. Bathroom and laundry facilities were very nice. Small playground and splashpad was entertaining for the kids. Lander is a gem of a town. Playground at City Park is world class. We camped at Sleeping Bear RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Ten Broek RV Park, Ten Sleep, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park with unique parking arrangement (as mentioned by others) in a lovely small Wyoming town. New owners who are very accommodating and live on property. Graceful cottonwoods throughout the park. They have a "Horse Hotel" which caters to trail riders, and there was a cattle-drive on the old stock road which goes right by the campground. Older bathrooms/showers, but functional. Power, water, and sewer systems were good (despite strange placement.) Easy walk into town which has shops/restaurants/playgrounds/splashpad. We camped at Ten Broek RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Perfect campground to unplug from the world in the spectacular Bighorns. Very small (10 sites) but navigable in our 37 foot Travel Trailer. Gravel Road from the Highway is not bad at all, although it can get muddy. Sites are located near Tensleep Creek, moose visible from campsite. Campground host accommodating. Very very quiet. Lovely woods and creeks to explore directly from campground. Snacks/Ice/Diesel available less than ten miles away at one of the lodges. We camped at Island Park Campground USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Keyhole State Park, Moorcroft, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Keyhole is an out-of-the-way park, but a quiet lovely park in an often-forgotten corner of Wyoming. Tatanka is the only loop with hookups; that is where we stayed. Check-in was very easy at a kiosk at the entrance and the roads and signage were easy to navigate. There are pit toilets throughout the CG, and a new shower/bath house a short walk away (pay showers.) There is a paved bike path which runs between many of the campgrounds as well. Water and Electrical Hookups were well taken care of. Dump station available at the exit of the park. The lake is lovely, and well-used by anglers. The campgrounds had a heavy local feel, in a good way, with locals posting up and fishing for a couple of weeks in their fifth wheels in the fleeting Wyoming summer. Campground hosts were available, but not nosy. We camped at Keyhole State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Custer State Park - Legion Lake Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Clean campground very convenient to all the attractions in the Black Hills. Directly across the road from a nice lodge, playground, and beach, as well as a short loop trail. Immaculate bathrooms, although the showers were lukewarm, and not hot (albeit free.) We were in site 6 which was directly across from the dumpster and bathroom, but left no privacy whatsoever. It was compounded by the fact that there was a creek running through our site/picnic table/campfire area so that was unusable. While they were working on some sort of trench downstream, the lack of any grassy space (that wasn't a bog) and tight site to begin with negatively impacted the quality of our stay. We camped at Custer State Park - Legion Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.
