Minooka Park COE, Sylvan Grove, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here a bit over 3 years ago and the park is the same park it was back then. The water and electric were adequate. You will want to use your pressure regulator to tone down the water pressure. There is a nice dump station at the park entrance. The thing that has changed is that the park employees here now are among the worst we have ever encountered in a COE park. They are just plain lazy but that could be because they may have poor management. They did the unthinkable and neglected to put the reserved signs out for sites reserved the day before so we had to cut our stay short. The checkin kiosk is rarely manned during the week so you cannot get needed information. Also, one of my pet peeves is recycling bins; there are none here. Come on Corps of Engineers get with the program! We might stay here again and hope there has been personnel turnover. We camped at Minooka Park COE in a Motorhome.

Slough Creek COE, Perry, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

The "Geezer Pass" pays off again. Our spot was pretty level in The Worthington Loop. The 50 amp service was spot on. The water will need to be toned down with your pressure regulator. The water quality was excellent. The hookups were well placed. There is a dump station in the loop as well as a paved one at the entrance to the park. The whole park is well cared for and beautiful. The staff here is excellent. Come on Corps of Engineers, get some recycling in your parks. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Slough Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Wolf Creek Campground, Gratiot, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We love these small town owned RV parks. This little town is wonderful with three taverns which have food. The water and 30 Amp service electric are adequate. It would be great if there was a dump station. We have the beautiful little creek running right behind our motorhome. The place is extremely quiet and we love it. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Wolf Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort, Volo, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We parked in a section of the park where they put those staying a month or so. Our cost per night is based on staying a month. The area we parked in was very tight for a 40 foot motorhome. We had to back into our neighbors space to get out of our spot. The water faucet placement for our spot was on the opposite side of where it should have been so it could be shared with an adjacent spot. The water, by the way is the absolute worst water we have ever tasted and that is after filtering it three times. The 50 Amp service was very marginal and the voltage was in the red for almost our entire stay. It really got bad on the weekends when the place gets incredibly crowded. You will want to have a good surge protector on your rig to be safe. We lost power entirely a number of times.
On the positive side of the ledger, the staff running and maintaining the park are top notch and do a good job with what they have here. The park is primarily a park model facility with many owners paying seasonal rent. Many of these park models are very attractive. We have a grand daughter in the area and she is the only reason we stay here. There are many many things for kids to do here, lots of planned activities which kids absolutely love. If we had an occasion to be in the area again, we would stay here. We camped at Fish Lake Beach Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Kellogg RV Park, Kellogg, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We forgot to ask for the Good Sams discount. The owners and staff were excellent. There is some noise from the Interstate but it is tolerable. The full hookups were adequate and well placed. The broad expanses of lawn were nice. The only real negative is that the sites are so very close together. Many people just stay overnight. We would stay here again. We camped at Kellogg RV Park in a Motorhome.

Madison County Fairgrounds Campground, Winterset, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

A good place to stay with full hookup sites. The site was fairly level and was able to level up with no difficulty. The hookups were adequate and there is a Verizon tower on the grounds. A great place to camp when the other campgrounds in Winterset are full. There is a sign stating that the campground is closed July 6-20 for the county fair. That date would vary some year to year. We definitely would stay here again. We camped at Madison County Fairgrounds Campground in a Motorhome.

Winterset City Campground and RV Park, Winterset, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This city park campground is a real gem; the city park service that administers this campground is a real credit to their profession. As city campgrounds go, this one should be rated an 11! The full hookups were adequate; the water faucet is placed between two spaces so make sure you come here with more than a 25 foot fresh water hose. The only improvements that could make the park absolutely perfect would be to add more gravel to areas that can become muddy when heavy rains come and the park should add co-mingled recycling. You really do need to call ahead if you wish to stay on a weekend or holiday during the prime spring and summer season. There are lots of things to see and do in the area; so, plan to stay a while if you can. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cherry Glen COE, Johnston, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Nice clean, level spot with water and electric. Cost is based on the use of senior pass. This is a rare COE Park that has co-mingled recycling. The park is well run and the staff were both friendly and very helpful. The tree cover was such that our DirecTV could not be received but we were able to bring in many local hi-definition channels with our crank up antenna. The dump station was set up properly but can get very crowded on the weekends. We used Recreation.gov to make a reservation without additional cost. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Motorhome.

Blue Valley Camping Area, Seward, Nebraska

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

Psst, don't tell anyone about this place; it's our secret. I found it in Escapees Day's End. The 30 Amp electrical service is more than adequate for our 50 Amp RV running only one air conditioner. The park is beautiful. There is potable water to fill your tank and a real nicely designed dump station. We seek out these small city campgrounds spotted around the country. The area has received an incredible amount of rainfall so there was some muddy spots in the park. Our parking surface was crushed limestone and could stand the addition of more but what do you want for $7 per night. We definitely would come here again. Thank you Seward for a great experience. We camped at Blue Valley Camping Area in a Motorhome.

Holiday RV Park, North Platte, Nebraska

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The park is ok for the week we stayed. Price reflects the weekly rate. The roads were rather muddy but the weather has been exceptionally wet. All hookups were adequate albeit rather old. We chose a 30 Amp site since we didn't need to use our air conditioners. Cable was good. WiFi was pretty good from site 66 better than most parks. WalMart is nearby. We would use this park again. We camped at Holiday RV Park in a Motorhome.

Curt Gowdy State Park, Cheyenne, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This park's lake and scenery are absolutely beautiful but it is difficult for full time RVers to see a value here. The office personnel were absolutely clueless about where we should park. All of the sites with water and electric are reservation only. We were told on the phone that we could go into the park and select a site. When we showed up, we were told that we could not go into the hookup area without reservations and reservations had to be made two days in advance, so dry camping was our only option. We did find one of the very few dry camping sites level enough and large enough for our motorhome and toad. The whole place needs to be graded to remove the many huge bumps and muddy areas everywhere. Gravel needs to be spread throughout the park. There is no dump station in the park. I doubt that we would stay here again. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Motorhome.

Canyon View RV Park, Spanish Fork, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This was a great place to stay for a week while the cold weather exits Wyoming. The 30 amp and water hookups were adequate. Found the dump station which probably needs some kind of sign. The whole area is paved with asphalt and is deceptively level. The park is big rig accessible There is a beautiful park with a trout pond, walking/biking path and golf course. There is a nice walkway to the park from the campground. Shopping is nearby; was impressed with the Fresh Market for groceries. We would definitely stay here again. Jones High Country RV, Nephi, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park isn't much but is OK for a night stay. The young lady working in the office was very nice and cheerful. The 50 amp service is adequate, water pressure was high so we used a pressure regulator and the sewer hookup was not very good at all. Lots of junk around. Nice little town. The parking surface was thin gravel. We would stay here again, maybe. We camped at Jones High Country RV in a Motorhome.

Snow Canyon State Park, St George, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The only reason I couldn't give the park a 10 is that the facilities we used with water and 30 Amp hookups were extremely tight for our 38 ft. Diesel pusher. We only have slides on the drivers side so we were able to squeeze in just barely and it took some care getting out as well. If you have slides on both sides or more than two slides forget it unless you can secure one of the larger difficult to obtain boondocking sites. Our site was paved with asphalt. There is a shelter with a picnic table at each site. The shelter is one of the main problems fitting in each space and there are scratches and scrapes on each of the shelters to prove that statement. If we can fit in there, you probably can as well if you know what you are doing. The park is probably the most beautiful state park we have ever been in. If you are a hiker or a bicyclist, this park is Nirvana. The park is just a few miles from St. George where great shopping is available. We would come back here again and again!! Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

KOAs are usually over priced for what you get and this one is no exception. It is pretty average but it is close to a great casino and restaurant. We stayed here before it was a KOA and it is about the same as it was last time we stayed. We like that we aren't on the strip. Rigs here are right on top of each other with side by side parking. Sites are level and hookups are adequate. We would stay here again. We camped at Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town in a Motorhome.
