Bakersfield RV Resort, Bakersfield, California

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Glad we discovered this RV park in Bakersfield. Its a little quieter and further away from all the freeways. Very well run operation beginning with cookies and snacks when you check in. Very spacious full throughs and a very clean park. We will always stay here when in the area. We camped at Bakersfield RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Buck Owens Crystal Palace is a short drive away. Watch out for all the freeway construction. Better to go on surface streets while going around town, than the freeways in rush hour. Also when departing the 99 freeway for this park, make sure you get into the proper lanes for turning well in advance. Traffic can be very heavy in Bakersfield and hard to get over at the last minute.

Hi-Way Haven RV Park, Sutherlin, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

An RV park with a drive-in movie! What a lot of fun. This very clean park was built on the site of a drive in movie and they run movies every night for the RV campers! To can request a site in one of the front rows to watch from your RV. The sound comes through on your FM radio. They have nice patios, which have a partition for privacy between the sites, even include free popcorn for the movie. The night before we arrived they showed Titanic, we watched Overboard. They even have chairs in front of the projection booth if you want an upfront view. We had a blast staying here at this well-run park. We camped at Hi-Way Haven RV Park in a Motorhome.

Skykomish Ballpark, Skykomish, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We were told about the Ballpark RV campground by the town and registered online to stay there. Dry camping only, although there is a community kitchen, which we did not use. Very level and well marked sites around the edge of the town ball field in a beautiful treed areas. Lots of trains to watch in the nearby historic railroad town. You need to talk to the town clerk for exact directions to reach the turnoff. We camped there in a big rig but found the turnoff difficult to make when coming from the West. The road is very small and a little hilly but had no problem getting in there when we disconnected. The site is very quiet and remote and we were the only ones staying there. There is a camp host but they are not always in the trailer. One note, Wednesday is Baseball night and the community plays baseball until its dark. They also opened up a car and blasted music for the entire time, which was extremely loud. We supposed that they feel the RVs are an intrusion and they've been playing ball for a lot longer time. It wouldn't have been a problem if the music had not been blasting. Other than that, a very unusual stay. We camped at Skykomish Ballpark in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

No grocery stores for 30 miles so go in well-stocked. Go into town and enjoy the trains going through on the BNSF mainline. Very charming community with nice folks. They have a railroad camera you can watch. Google "Skykomish Train Cam" and you may fall in love with it!

Leavenworth / Pine Village KOA, Leavenworth, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $106.00
Overall Rating:

The most we've every paid for a KOA campground. $106 a day including tax for a patio site. KOA has done a nice job at many parks putting in a fancy patio with furniture and eliminating a space, but you now have to pay double the amount for camping. The spaces are very nice, lots of furniture. There is one problem that we understand will be cleared up. As you pull into the park, in a big rig in our case, you go past an empty entrance building, and have to navigate all the way through the park on small, curvey up and down roads, to get to the store, at the end, where you register. Then they lead you all the way back out to get to the site. Its not a good situation but I was told that the town had not yet approved the entrance building for occupancy and we are assuming they will use that building for registration when able. We camped at Leavenworth / Pine Village KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Leavenworth was a huge surprise, a Bavarian town that looks like it is in the alps. It has so many unusual places to see, restaurants and shops. We later learned its voted one of America's Best Bavarian towns. Allow plenty of time to see it!

Peter D's RV Park, Sheridan, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very well run RV park in a charming community, just off the freeway. The friendly hosts will sometimes give you a packet of herbs from their garden or salad. A very nice touch. Driving around the park, we noticed that the rigs are really packed in, very close together, especially with our slides coming out, which was the only negative. The park is absolutely firm on their check out time and you may even have the owner at your door if not out by 11 a.m. We camped at Peter D's RV Park in a Motorhome.

Blackwell Island RV Park, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Located on an island, a very well maintained RV park. Extremely crowded because of the summer. We paid extra for a premium site, supposedly on the water, but when pulled up to it, my wife said "this is a premium site?" It really looked quite ordinary and the water, barely visible through the trees, was some distance away. Lots of motorboat noise as you can imagine, until the sun went down. We had a grassy area next to the motorhome and campers would walk their dogs non-stop to let their pets go to the bathroom on the grass, also, a number of campers, to access the water, would just walk right through your area. We stayed one night. For the premium site, you also have to detach as you can only pull in and back out. We camped at Blackwell Island RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hyde RV Park, Divide, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Fairly new RV park just off the road in a charming area of Montana. We enjoyed out stay, found the sites were all level and great views. One thing, as you come in, you have to pull up to a registration area at the end and if you have a big rig, there is no way to turn around and go back to your site so you have to disconnect. Better place for the registration kiosk would have been near the entrance, but we felt it was worth the hassle to enjoy the open park. A family who has pioneered the area, built the park over a period of years. Cellphone service is almost nonexistent in this area, so it was wonderful they had WiFi to use and it worked well. We camped at Hyde RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bear Canyon Campground, Bozeman, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Park entrance is up a small hill in a very picturesque canyon between Livingston and Bozeman. Make sure you have reservations in the summer as it's near an entry for Yellowstone Park and can be very busy. We got one of the nice pull throughs. My wife and I love trains but I would have to say, the train whistles are about the loudest we have heard, but the place was full and people just put up with it as a fact of life. We stayed just one night. We camped at Bear Canyon Campground in a Motorhome.

Mountain View RV Park, Wheatland, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

People who run this small park are very nice and work hard but the park itself is not suited, in our opinion for big rigs. It slopes up a hill and most sites are not level, although we were able to maneuver around and get level. the hookups are all at the back and required extra long hoses and electrical extensions to reach. Couldn't dump the tank as it was too far away. We would only park here again as a last resort. Cheyenne had the rodeo going on and all sites were filled. In fact, they were asking 2 nights fee to park one night in an overflow field! We camped at Mountain View RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pueblo South / Colorado City KOA, Pueblo, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We were unable to find any space in any RV park for 100 miles. Everything was jammed. Also, severe thunderstorms were developing as we called all the parks in Pueblo, Colorado Springs and even Cheyenne. I called the KOA in S. Pueblo and they had no room either. Then I asked "do you have a field where we can just plug in?" Then the said, "yes, we have an overflow area and one space left. Its $50 for one night. We took it and had to backtrack and drive 30 miles south. I don't know why RV parks don't voluntarily tell you they have an overflow area without asking, but it saved the day. They had 50 amp service. Full hookups at the park are $45 so we were charged higher but at the time, were desperate. The staff was very nice. We camped at Pueblo South / Colorado City KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are so many tourist areas on the East side of the Rockies, if traveling in the summer when school is out, make sure you have reservation. we normally travel after Labor day and getting into parks is not a problem, but we were astounded at how many RVs were scrambling to get a site. a nearby lake at Pueblo, had 500 sites and every one of them was filled up.
