The Hideaway (formerly Magnolia Beach Campground), Navarre, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

This park is under new management and has a new name, Hideaway. The new owners were making many upgrades and improvements, like putting down gravel on the roads and sites. They have a new website under their new name, Hideaway, so do not check for information on the old Magnolia Beach website, because info and rates are different. We enjoyed our stay here because the campground was right on the Santa Rosa Sound and had none of the cookie cutter feeling of other waterfront parks. It has a nice ambience with many mature oak and magnolia trees. The new staff were great, friendly and accommodating. There is a small beach along the sound and we enjoyed that very much, along with a deck overlooking the Sound. The owners said they were about to replace a long dock that had been destroyed in previous storms. Wifi and internet were excellent. We had a pull-through waterview site and there are some waterfront sites that back right up to the Sound. We will definitely return to this campground. We camped at The Hideaway (formerly Magnolia Beach Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We went over to nearby beautiful Navarre Beach on the Gulf one day. The causeway is just 10 minutes away from the campground. We ate at Dewey's down the road from the campground. Great seafood, crowded but not too long of a wait. Right on the Santa Rosa Sound. We also bought fresh redfish at the Navarre Seafood Market, just down the street from the campground. Had a delicious fish dinner back at the rv!

Birmingham South Campground, Pelham, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park conveniently located near I-65 . We had a nice pull-through with shade trees and full hookup. Several other sites in this area were in full sun, so we were glad to have the shade. We were in a section that mainly had overnighters and more spacious sites for big rigs. There is a back area that seemed to be for longer term. I enjoyed the pool, very clean with a nice patio that had tables with umbrellas and chaise lounges. Friendly staff, nice store and office. The wifi was a bit spotty but ok. We would stay here again as an overnight spot. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hungry Mother State Park, Marion, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at the Burson Campground, which is outside the park. Nice, level, pull-through shady site with full hookups. Nice to have 50 amp and sewer at a state park campground. The sites were long enough for our 36 foot fifth wheel and truck. Friendly campers and camp host. We went into the park to register after setting up. There is a beautiful lake with a nice swimming area and lovely scenery. The downside was that there was no wifi or internet and few TV channels. I haven't watched Gunsmoke in ages, haha. We could only use our cell phone (ATT provider) when we left the campground. We camped at Hungry Mother State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Ballyhoo Family Campground, Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is in a quiet country setting with a pretty lake, forest and open grassy areas. The sites have mature trees and ours was a pretty level pull through with full hookup. The owners are very nice and helpful. There is a mixture of RVs, tents and cabins and some people were fishing in the lake. It was Memorial day weekend, so the park required a three night minimum. The owners had a campground barbeque and provided roast pork, hot dogs and soft serve ice cream. We campers brought side dishes and had a great meal and enjoyed meeting other campers. We camped at Ballyhoo Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA), Staunton, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

A very pretty, well-maintained park with a friendly staff. Close to I-81 but far enough away to not hear traffic. Located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley with rolling hills around. Our campsite was on a hill with nice views of the hills in the distance. There was a lake below us with smaller sites around it. It was no problem getting up the hill and the top was a level surface with mature trees and forest. Our site was very long and spacious, a pull through full hook-up and 50 amp. We enjoyed walking around the park and would definitely stay here again. We camped at Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Cherry Hill Park (Washington DC), College Park, Maryland

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $88.00
Overall Rating:

This park is like its own little town and has just about every amenity you could want. We stayed here in order to visit Washington DC and the park made that very convenient. The daily presentation about visiting DC was very informative and organized. The park staff were very friendly. We bought our Metro travel cards there and drove daily to the nearby train station for the 25 minute ride to the city. There is also an option of taking a shuttle from the park to the train station. Most of the sites in this big, sprawling park are back-ins, but there are some pull-through sites, which is what we had. The only drawback is that the pull-throughs are out in the open in full sun. Wifi and internet were good, we had a fire ring, barbeque grill and table and chairs on a patio. Sites have full hook-up, 50 amp, sewer, water. We camped at Cherry Hill Park (Washington DC) in a Fifth Wheel.

We went to an excellent, authentic Italian restaurant called Trattoria Da Lina in a nearby town called Takoma Park. It was a 20 minute drive and well worth it.

American Heritage RV Park, Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in order to visit Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, which worked out great. The park is very well-maintained and has many mature trees. There are concrete pads and patios on each site. We opted for the regular full hook-up pull through site, although there are bigger premium sites at the corner of each road in the park for about 20 dollars more. There is a pool and a nice spacious and shaded dog park. The sites were not very long and we had to park the truck at an angle by the rv which was kind of tight. We used the laundry room which was spacious and clean with several machines. Wifi and internet were good. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fayetteville RV Resort (formerly Fayetteville / Wade KOA), Wade, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful RV park with very well maintained sites and grounds. It has two beautiful pools, spacious shaded sites with full hookup, mini-golf, workout room, playground and lots of other amenities in a very pretty setting. Good wifi, internet and cable,. There are two nice dog parks. We went on a nature trail through a wooded area and around a lake. The park is convenient to Fort Bragg, we were visiting a relative stationed there. Savannah Oaks RV Resort, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This has been our "go to" RV campground for our first stop on trips from our home state of Florida heading north. The park has several pull through sites with full hook-up, pleasant and helpful management, a pool and small workout room. We had stayed here before in the back area closer to the river, which was more shaded and quiet, compared to this site which was closer to the main road, so there was traffic noise. We camped at Savannah Oaks RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Good location for sightseeing and restaurants. The Shell House restaurant down the road was very good. We went over to Skidaway Island and had a very good lunch at the Driftaway Café, which was dog friendly (upstairs outdoor deck).
