Schoodic Woods Campground, Winter Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful, quiet campground on the Schoodic Peninsula. Although there are water and electric hookups, there is no sewer connection and no showers available. The dump station is near the loop entrance. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is on the "quiet side" of Acadia National Park. Not as many people here as in Bar Harbor. There is a shuttle that goes around the peninsula, so you don't have to drive. This one is managed by the National Park Service and there are Ranger programs in the evenings. There is plenty of hiking, biking and exploring nearby. Not far from Winter Harbor, where there are a few shops and restaurants.

Crown Point Campground ( NY DEC ), Port Henry, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We reserved site 61 and stayed in it 1 night, then moved. There was no shade and we faced west. Most of the sites 57-63 were in an open field with no trees. The second site was in a more wooded area. I believe it was site #24. Much more shade there. This is a dry camping park, but there was a dish washing station and restrooms with showers. The bathhouses were a little run down and mostly clean. This park sits on Lake Champlain, boating and fishing available. Some of the sites were closed due to the rainfall in May and June. Will need vet records for pets. We camped at Crown Point Campground ( NY DEC ) in a Motorhome.

Sampson State Park, Romulus, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

A very large state park on an old Naval training base. There aren't a lot of trees and the sites are not very uniform. Must watch out for wet areas as the gravel pads are not well defined. This was right in the middle of the Finger Lakes region, so lots to do in the area. The weekend that we were there got very busy, crowded and noisy, but by Sunday night most of the campground was empty again. The bathrooms had a large outdoor "campers" sink to wash dishes. Fill up your fresh water and dump your grey/black tanks before arrival. It's a very busy dump station. We camped at Sampson State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We visited Corning Glass Museum, Glenn Curtiss Aviation Museum and lots of wineries in the area. There is also a military museum on site, which is interesting. We also took a day trip to Watkins Glen State Park.

Letchworth State Park, Castile, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park in New York. Spacious and quiet sites. The bathrooms are modern and clean and centrally located in the loop. There was also a very large and clean laundry facility. This park is gorgeous, with 3 waterfalls and lots of hiking. Have your vet's information and vaccination records available at check in. Also be aware that certain camping loops do not allow pets. We camped at Letchworth State Park in a Motorhome.

Four Mile Creek State Park, Youngstown, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park near Niagara Falls on the shore of Lake Ontario and close to several other interesting areas, including wineries, Fort Niagara State Park, and Lockport. Site was large and private. Centrally located water faucets available, showers at bathhouses. Had a lot of rain, so must be careful to stay on the gravel pads. New York requires proof of vaccination at all state parks for your animals. Have that ready at check-in. Because we paid the camping fees here, we were able to park free at the Niagara Falls State Park and Fort Niagara- need your camping pass and/or site number for those lots. We camped at Four Mile Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

William C. Sterling State Park, Monroe, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park right on the lake. No trees, no shade, but site was flat and long. My only complaint was that in addition to the nightly fee, we had to purchase a daily pass. It was a little less expensive to buy a yearly pass, so that's what we did. There were walking trails along the lake and fishing piers available. We were there for a wedding in Detroit, so didn't spend a lot of time at the park. We camped at William C. Sterling State Park in a Motorhome.
