Cross Creek RV Park, Maggie Valley, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

What a cute little campground off the beaten track. They have a great laundry, shaded pavilion and large fenced dog park. They do not have showers, bath, etc. But this is a great little park, nestled between the mountains, next to a cornfield (and parts of it on a creek). Great, friendly camp hosts and everyone at the campground is great. Definitely one of our favorite places we have visited as FT RVers. Will come back again for sure. We camped at Cross Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Murphy / Peace Valley KOA, Marble, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I don't know what everyone sees in this place. We are FT, have stayed at a bunch of KOA's and this is by far the worst. Here are the issues we had with it. 1) We run with walkie talkies on and as we pulled into the campground around noon (yes, before 2 PM check in time), we heard the camp host on the radio complaining about early arrivals. Yes, we arrived early as did the TT ahead of us. The campground was nearly empty, our space was empty, they do nothing to clean out the sites before arrival so why complain about early arrivals? 2) The maintenance guy seemed more interested in cutting high limbs from trees versus cutting the grass in the dog walk and other areas, which were pretty overgrown. Not to mention many campsites were covered with leaves and limbs, tables out of place, etc. Just looked unkept. 3) First place we have been, far north and south, where the laundry room and shower/baths have no AC! It was over 90 and very uncomfortable in the laundry room. And the shower/bath rooms had screens that were broken/fallen in and no AC. Not appealing at all. 4) We get surveys from KOA after most stays. Oddly enough, didn't get one after this stay. That tells us the owners don't want to hear the feedback and neither does KOA. 5) The entrance road is very narrow, no way too RV's could pass each other. And turn into campground is tight if driving towards the east with only a small banner, not the typical KOA signage. I would have rated this even lower but we did have a shaded site and they are on a nice creek so giving a few points for that. We will be back in the Murphy area but won't go here again. We camped at Murphy / Peace Valley KOA in a Motorhome.

Cartersville / Cassville-White KOA, Cartersville, Georgia

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

You have to remember that this is a KOA "Journey" so won't have all the bells and whistles as a Holiday or other type KOA. There are really three areas of camping. Up front is about three rows of angled pull thru sites that appear to be for most transients. We got to our site which was at the end of the row and asked if we could be moved and they were nice enough to accommodate (gave us more space and shade). The middle of the campground is up on a hill and has a mix of more seasonal folks and also mix of services available (some do not have sewer). The back appears to be filled with longer stay campers from what I could tell. It has two fenced dog areas up front plus a HUGE field between the campground and the road. Some might be troubled by the amount of truck traffic but we barely noticed and were right on the front row. Cable and Wifi very good (although WiFi did go out for a couple of days thanks to AT&T and a strike that delayed repairs, not the campground's fault) but they were very apologetic and kept us updated. We have to visit Atlanta a lot for Dr appts and to see friends (we are now FT) and after trying a few other campgrounds, feel this may be the best of the lot. We camped at Cartersville / Cassville-White KOA in a Motorhome.

Up the Creek RV Camp, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The best little campground we have ever been too. Not much in the way of amenities (no pool, no playground, etc.) but it is really nicely done. Does have a fenced in dog park which made our pup very happy. Our site backed up to a creek, was very shady and so peaceful. As mentioned by others, the shuttle comes right into the campground every hour and seemed like a great way to get into town and all the attractions without having to bother with driving. Close to everything but seems so far away. We are already planning to go back next spring! We camped at Up the Creek RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Laurel Lake Camping Resort, Corbin, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Off the beaten path a bit (our GPS had a problem finding them!) but nice when you get there. There is an older (front portion) of the park and a newer (back portion, after 2nd lake) portion. We stayed in older part and had tons of shade, very private and LOVED where we were. The newer portion does not look so good right now, not a lot of trees, lots of gravel. Laundry room was great. Lots of trails but unfortunately they have been taken over by golf carts as the resort rents them out very cheaply and it's a great way to give the kids some entertainment for a few hours (and I have to admit, if we had kids, we would have rented one too!). Had good b'fast and lunch offerings and even brought in BBQ one night but we didn't try. Was VERY dusty while we were there but not their fault, just hadn't had rain in quite awhile. Person who checked us in was sort of grumpy and slow, lots of forms to sign, etc. Later we realized she seemed to be doing most of the work as we noticed a "manager" sitting in a back office sorting papers and at least three workers in the cafe area doing nothing. Could probably look at working better as one team to help each other out. Otherwise, very happy with this place. We camped at Laurel Lake Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Whispering Hills RV Park, Georgetown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Felt this was not much more than a lot of gravel in a field. Very dusty, no shade to speak of. Folks who checked us in were not that friendly. Only campground I've ever been to where I have to go in and pay for ice, and then they have to go unlock it so I can get my bag. Lots of long term folks staying here and some of the campers were in pretty poor shape, sad looking. Also noticed many workers camped many to a trailer. Just didn't get that friendly family atmosphere at this place. Would not go back again. We camped at Whispering Hills RV Park in a Motorhome.

FMCA Campground (FMCA members only), Cincinnati, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

If you are an FMCA member and in the area, this place pays for your membership! Two free nights per month, $20 add'l nights. We overlapped two different months while staying a week so got four free nights! paved, level sites, lots of space between sites. Some have shade while most are out in open. Access to a wonderful 1 1/2 mile paved path around a lake which we walked, rode bikes and took the dogs on several times. Folks in office happy to help if needed! We camped at FMCA Campground (FMCA members only) in a Motorhome.

Petoskey KOA, Petoskey, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground, lots of varieties of sites. Those up front are much more open, no shade, etc. Those in the back have a lot more shade and luckily that's where we ended up. Somewhat tight to get our 42' Class A around the roads but did make it without incident. Nice mix of park models with friendly seasonal folks. Very friendly and helpful staff, lots of activities going on due to the 4th of July. We camped at Petoskey KOA in a Motorhome.

Wapakoneta KOA, Wapakoneta, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little park, glad we got a site with some shade. Two dog parks, nice pool and open, public spaces. The only complaint I have is that our site was VERY tight. Our left side slides literally hung over the patio of our neighbor (as did our neighbor's onto our deck). Everyone was very friendly and considerate of each other so it was never a problem but really felt on top of each other at times. We camped at Wapakoneta KOA in a Motorhome.

Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We only stayed here one night after getting some work done on our rig in Elkhart. This park seems to have two parts - one that is very shaded and filled mostly with seasonal campers and lots of vintage campers, and the other area that is mostly open, short term campers, dusty, etc. It was OK but personally we liked the another park over in Granger better for the money and the amenities. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Motorhome.

Waterloo Recreation Area, Chelsea, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely campground, lots of various sites spread out. We were a little concerned because that had recently received a lot of rain and sites a few down from us were very muddy but ours was fine, easily supported our 42' rig with no problems. Not full service but we were only there for one night. Nice wooded back in site with lots of room, very quiet and peaceful. Great beach, on lake, washrooms and showers were clean. We camped at Waterloo Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Northpoint Shores RV Resort, New Baltimore, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We have been camping FT since start of 2019 and we rank this campground the worst overall we have stayed. It is NOT a resort. They have nice bathhouse and laundry and that is it. View of lake and a fire pit but otherwise, tight spaces, no place to park your tow car (along the road), not pet friendly, unfriendly hosts, tight spaces, no shade. "Pavilion" is a tent with no furniture. Only host we have met who was grumpy and non-welcoming. Sent out a letter to everyone halfway thru the week stressing the rules (but not focusing on who/what might have been broken and why the extra email). This is a campground that wants to be more. Go somewhere else. They are overpriced for what they provide. We camped at Northpoint Shores RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Wow, what a find! Very inexpensive, great camp host, lots of trails, can walk to the lake, close to Bay City, and so inexpensive. Traverse Bay RV Resort, Williamsburg, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

Maybe we just don't fit in to parks like this. Seems they really cater to the longer term campers and/or owners. Those visiting for a few days/weeks are tolerated. Too many rules, too picky about how things are for us. A few examples. They note they are pet friendly but we'd say they are pet tolerant only. Dogs only allowed to go on your site or on common grounds - don't go on any adjacent lots, can't take them to the fenced dog park because it is in a flood zone and covered with mosquitoes. Trash is picked up (at this price, that is a given) but the guy who picks up the trash has his own rules - prefers that you have a post to hang your trash on, or put your trash in a box (none of this noted in rules provided, just what he told us). In one case, birds picked open our trash before it was picked up, he picked up some of the trash but left the dog poop bags behind because "I don't deal with dog bags". Note that there are no dog waste stations anywhere around the park. Really nice place but not for us. We camped at Traverse Bay RV Resort in a Motorhome.
